Fel strode over to her alpha’s den with a muffled grumble at the chirping birds. She hated spring. It wasn’t that she hated bunnies and rainbows, but the desperate sounds of nature gave the old brutish fae a headache beyond belief. In her mouth hung a bleached white reminder of mortality, ironic in its juxtaposition. It was her treasured gift to her alpha, which she had cleaned and perfected to a chalky, presentable color. The puma’s skull, surprisingly large despite its owner’s incredibly small mental capacity, was set gently down in front of where she stopped at the mouth of the den. The young thing she picked up earlier that morning instead of a deer tread behind her. Then, silently, she sat down into her statuesque pose. Her fur had shed slightly and pressed more against her body, though it was generally still long. The beta called out her friend’s name in a calm manner, not wishing to aggravate him. There was something she wanted to give him, of course, but there were also very pressing matters to discuss. After all, she had to make sure that the plan thrown into her paws by chance was okay with him. And, of course, there was the issue of the pup that hid behind her back. Fel’s cold, life-devouring gaze stuck to the floor of the large den, waiting to see those tawny paws emerge into the farthermost stretches of sunlight. His scent told her he was in there… somewhere.

I never expected to find myself here, but now that I am... I can't see myself being anywhere else.
Laying on his side, Desmond took a deep yawn. His eyes were closed tight, sound asleep in dreamland. He took deep breaths and blew the small particles of dust away from his maw. Nostrils flared and collapsed as he rested. He could not be disturbed and was expecting to be left in peace. But that was not the case. He heard a voice speaking into his den. There were not many wolves who would actually speak his name without a title. He had a very good idea who was at the entrance. Lifting his head up, he looked out, but it was too dark to see from deep within his dwelling. Standing up, he walked to the front of his den and saw the midnight fae with a skull before her. It was a larger skull, larger than any fox or wolf he had ever known. "I take it this is the Puma?" He asked as he inspected the bones before him. It looked as if it had been in good condition, well taken care of.

Fel saw her leader’s tawny paws step into the sunlight and craned her head down in a respectful bow of greeting. Her coat still showed hints of dirt from her hunting mask. She was about to follow with a verbal greeting, hoping to lighten things between them since he had been so… tense the last time they spoke. But he greeted her with a question. So came the rumbling answer, “That would be him. I wanted to bleach the bones in the sunlight properly before I gave it to you, and the winter sun is fickle. I had to wait. But it’s a present I’ve been meaning to give you.” She nudged the skull to him with her dark nose and then straightened. If he was still admiring it, she would clear her throat of its excessive rasp and continue, “Alpha… I need to speak with you about pups.” With that, she turned her head around and pulled the pup from behind her large body, placing it before him with a gentle but firm grip. It shook. “Before you ask anything or make an opinion, allow me to explain. I was following the tracks of a doe and a fawn early this morning, which led me out to the neutrals. My scent, as you can tell by the remnants of earth on my coat, was masked. But the deer suddenly ran away in a very strange direction, so I followed towards the direction from which they bolted. I happened to stumble upon an Erenyx fae… I cannot recall her name… in a fight with a grizzly bear. Needless to say, she was killed with ease and I did not interfere. However, she was protecting this little creature. I considered leaving it there to die, but concluded that it might be a waste. The pup will not benefit Erenyx, yes, but it also would not benefit us. Seeing as we have a deficit of young this spring, I brought it here for your judgment. We could use the youth…” She pulled the thing to her with one large paw and swiped her tongue over its head. “If you deem it worthy of keeping, I request to manage its upbringing. It would not impede my performance as your auxiliary in the slightest, I assure you, for I know who else would help. It is an orphan, and I am the one who found it. I feel partly responsible in it’s life.” Fel glanced over at him, waiting for his response.
After a minute or so, she spoke again, “There is one other issue I have to discuss. I ran across two pregnant Erenyx faes… Well, one was actually a Helidos captive by the name of Juno. Teren has sired multiple litters and expects his pack to multiply, while we are lagging behind in numbers if he is successful. However, Juno wishes him no success, and the other fae is equally trustworthy in this situation. I have discussed with them a plan that could take away a few pups from their pack and add them to ours. Teren is, as I know, distant with the young pups. He wouldn’t be able to pluck them out of a dozen and say they’re his. And so… I suggested Juno send her pups to a predetermined area that I have scouted out. The terrain is gravel, and we will leave no paw prints or trampled grass. If I take a small team of wolves, we can jump the unsuspecting offspring and kidnap them to an ironic safety. Loyalty can be brainwashed, enlightened, or beaten into them as necessary. As for a scenario, I still have the puma’s hide. We would mask our scent, spill a bit of their blood for show, and leave a few tufts of fur behind as a sign of struggle. I don’t suspect anyone would look into the death of the group any more than that. I only await your authorization or denial and critique.” There was no telling what would be his reaction to any of this, but she hoped he would at least think well of her for the effort. Spring brought an influx of lives to the packs, and Agavos was lacking in that department.

I never expected to find myself here, but now that I am... I can't see myself being anywhere else.
Desmond took a step closer, inspecting the skull. Just as she had said, it had been bleached. You couldn't see any blood or anything that would show otherwise. He had never been given such a gift. It was different for sure, but he knew exactly where he would put it in his den. It was not until she cleared her throat that he stopped looking at the skull and lifted his gaze to her, along with his head to its usual position. Her statement left him shocked. Had Fel mated behind his back without his permission? No, she did not swell with pups during the winter, she was the same old wolf he knew. But she placed a pup before herself, and looked to him. Before he could ask any questions or even contemplate what had just happened, she began to speak about how she found the pup. As she spoke, Desmond found himself staring at the pup. It was young. Like possibly still needing milk to drink. How was she going to care for this little wolf? She wanted to keep it, which he could not deny. it would die if it lived on its own. He couldn't be the source that forced the pup not to have a real life. "So I see, the only thing I worry about is how is it gonna get some nourishment? And when do you plan to care for the pup? Surely your patrols of the border will cease and you won't really be able to just up and start training another wolf in lands away from the dens... Wouldn't you prefer the Autay care for the pup? I mean that is their job. I would much prefer you to do your normal duties... But if you insist, then yes, you can care for it." But apparently, she was not done yet.
The next bunch of words which came from her mouth, however, shocked him. Stealing pups from another pack? Did he really want Agavos to be known as the pup-stealing pack? It was not just Agavos she was speaking for, but Desmond as well. He had to think on it for a while. He didn't really know what to say. He didn't know what he wanted to do with this issue. They needed wolves, but he didn't want the pups to be harmed or brain-washed. That was not the way to do such a thing. There had to be a better way. He didn't want anything negative to come from the minds of these pups. He wanted them to be happy, since their mothers were obviously trying to find a better home for them. "No. No, I don't want the pups to be harmed. If you are going to bring them here, it is with the permission of their mothers. The pups are not to be harmed. If they are leaving a horrible home, we do not want to bring them in with the understanding that they will be harmed here. They need to see Agavos as a haven, a safe place. Do what you must, but do not bring any harm to the pups. New life would be nice, but I do hope that they are old enough to eat for themselves. It would be a lot of work for the Autays. You have my permission, Fel. But if I hear a pup is harmed, I will not be pleased."

Fel pulled the pup into the fluff of her underside, letting it relax there whilst looming over it protectively. Desmond seemingly had a newfound knack for asking questions about something she had just answered. Had she not just stated that she would enlist help? Had she, in any way, suggested that she would ever allow a pup to impede her performance? Keeping her calm mask, she dipped her head politely rumbled in response, “Alpha, when I say that the pup will not impede my performance, I mean it. I have been nothing if not honest with you. I will ask the help of others, particularly Autays in the spring months. I don’t need to be there every second of the day, and for that matter, most wolves leave their pups with the autays while performing their daily duties. That is partly what they are for. Besides that, we both know Breeze and Narla would be dying to have a chance at training and interacting with the young. If you see a drop in my performance of my duties, you can seek me out… But I have never had an issue with that before. After all, I do have some free time that I would not mind sacrificing, now that spring is here and everything is running smoothly.” She looked to him with a slight hardness to her icy orbs, not meeting his gaze in challenge, but hinting that her trust was insulted. She was not one to do things without thinking them through and if the pup had been any danger to her position, she would have just as easily left it there to die. She frowned a little to whom she considered a friend. “Do I really seem, to you, like the wolf who would skirt her responsibilities? Do you doubt me, Desmond?”
The beta glanced down, examining the young fluff’s size. Pensively, she continued, “It is not too young… I’ve seen pups weaned off of their mothers’ milk at this age, and mine were about this early. It will need assistance chewing, but if it is fed soft, pre-chewed meat, it should survive. I will consult with the healers and autays in terms of any supplements.” Glancing back at him, she added, “She will be fine. Thank you for sparing her.”
His response to the plan consisted of shock, followed by a seemingly displeasured agreement. But it seemed like he was still doubting her judgment. “I would not arrange for a group of furballs to come in and die within a week of starvation. They will be old enough to eat a hare. As for the process itself, as you wish.” She stood, getting ready to leave, “I intend to bring Desoto, Striker, and Breeze to carry them here. Are you fine with these appointments?” Fel shook her pelt for a second, ridding it of some of the dirt that was on it. “And have there been any events that I need to be aware of, before I leave you to your gift?”

I never expected to find myself here, but now that I am... I can't see myself being anywhere else.
She had seemed a little distressed by his words. Desmond did not think she would stop doing her job or slack, but he knew that young wolves were hard to care for and watch over. He had seen other wolves who carried themselves the same way as Fel, and when it came to pups, everything else was dropped and forgotten. He did not wish for that to happen. Not that it was very important, but he wanted her to be available should he need her at all times. Day, night, mid day, whenever. That was what he required for a Beta. He watched as she seemed to already care for the little bundle. Did she want to be a mother again? He was unsure of this, but supposed this was what she wanted. Who was he to deny her happiness? The Alpha looked to her, listening to her words as she spoke. "Fel, it is nothing against you - nothing against your position... it's just that I have seen it happen for the worst before. It has absolutely nothing to do with your skills. I have just seen this before... slightly... Different circumstance, but still the same." Desmond waited for more to come from her. He had upset her. He was not going to apologize, however, for he was just looking for the reassured answers he was looking for. "There is nothing else. Nothing has happened as of late. When the pups are brought back to the pack, I would like to meet them and speak with them. As for this little one, what will you name her?"
