The fog was thick, borderline suffocating, but he mused the likelihood of that being why he liked it so much, and why lately he had been spending more time here in this ugly and blurry place than in his own den where he could tend to the wounded. It wasn't that he was afraid of his Alpha, but rather that he was avoiding what was assumably inevitable. He had been out of line when he healed the exile, and although he had been fully aware of what his actions entailed, of how unkindly Teren would take to his own lead in the field of medicine turning his back on him, he didn't feel the pressure of guilt inside of his chest. Maybe the word was apprehensive, because he knew it was only a matter of time until Teren found out Samael was alive, or until Samael surprised Teren with an unexpected visit and attempted to kill him; he was excited to see how everything would unfold, but he would be better off calling it apprehension.

So he spent his days and his nights scaling the cliffs, unconcerned with the fact that they were dangerous, unconcerned with returning to his den every once in a while to make it look like he was trying to make a reasonable effort as a healer. Someone would come looking for him if he was needed, but he highly doubted such a thing would occur - especially when there was another perfectly adept healer that wasn't quite so misguided.

It was easier to evade punishment, and to pretend he hadn't done something his Alpha would undoubtedly kill him for. If Samael couldn't follow through, if he died, then Cheshire was done for; but of course he was prepared for the worst case scenario. Greenish-blue eyes peered through the fog as best he could, piecing together the barely visible silhouettes of distant paths, knowing fully well that one of them would lead him away from this splendidly awful place if his cover was blown. He would be gone before Teren could even think to form the first syllable of his name.

Secret's Out. [Guardian Tundra] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Secret's Out. [Guardian Tundra] Secret's Out. [Guardian Tundra] Icon_minitimeSeptember 4th 2015, 06:55

She was alone at last, being a Guardian was tougher than she had hoped it would be in the sense that she had to do stuff, stuff that only helped the pitiful excuse of an alpha and his band of brainless followers. Between keeping up with her duties and fitting in Samael, she got little to no time to do what she wanted. Which included both eating and sleeping. The remains of a hare lay beside her, being just a very small pile of bones- she had been extremely hungry. She was lying in the slightly permanently damp grass, the misty fog seeming to leave it dampened. Her paws were crossed and she was staring quietly into the thick wall of fog as if there was actually something for her to see there. If you squinted and focused hard enough you could make out shapes but sometimes they were completely unrecognisable and other times easy to know what lay in the distance. Of course, the fatal drop always lay completely hidden as it was located where the fog was most dense. Many had died here, it had taken lives from those who both didn't and did know the area, hence gaining the name 'Satan's Edge'.

She sighed and rolled onto her back, shutting her eyes and feeling the temptation of sleep reaching out to her. How nice it would be to be able to just drift into unconsciousness peacefully and not have to wake up and repeat the difficulty of each day again. She glanced in the direction of the dense impenetrable fog, she'd only have to roll over a couple of times and she'd be free from everything. But she stayed firmly where she was, if Samael loved her then her death could affect his plans and she would not be the reason that Teren continued to terrorise wolves and Samael would probably end up dead. She grit her teeth and forced her eyes to stay opened.

She lay in complete silence, listening to the eerie breeze that tugged at her fur. Even birds stayed away from this place, but she liked the silence. And she liked how hidden she could be in the thick fog if she wished to. She was just feeling herself beginning to drift off despite not wanting to when a noise made her leap to her paws in seconds, defences up and body completely alert. Her ears twitched in the direction the sound had come from and her nose twitched. A scent reached her, it was a wolf- Erenyx but that did not make her feel any safer, she had betrayed the alpha and if anyone that was loyal to him found out she'd lied…She prepared herself for a fight as the scent drew nearer. The closer it came the clearer the scent became, it was a male and had a slight herby scent to him, a healer? But it was very faint for someone who should be in a den full of herbs every day as they tended to the sick and wounded. Maybe a former healer? She had definitely never came across him before but that meant nothing, Tundra wasn't exactly the most social wolf in the world. Finally she spotted a dark pelt not too far off. She let her tail rest lazily over her back and narrowed her hazel gaze. He was now near enough to see her if he turned around, Tilting her head to the side, she spoke in an empty, hollow voice. "You know these lands are dangerous right? No place to be taking a stroll" She watched him calmly, eyes glittering as she took note of every movement he made, searching for any hostility. If someone had seen Samael alive and wanted to try and take her on before telling the alpha to impress Teren then she would have no choice but to kill them. But right now she did not know if this brute was a threat or not and supposed there was no harm in giving him a chance as long as she was ready to spring into action if he tried to trick her.

Her voice caught him off guard, but he wouldn't dare flinch. He wasn't a wolf of weakness: he exposed it within others, but never within himself. Instead he moved slowly, the turning of his neck subtle, but just apparent enough that his vision now accommodated her. The paleness of her fur was reasoning behind the narrowing of his eyes, the fog too thick, too blurry and too white, for him to really see her, but he smiled that toothy smile of his as though he had never before seen someone quite so clearly. Her warning didn't spark hesitation inside of him; words were nothing more than something for him to toy with.

"Splendid advice," the healer quirked a brow, "and yet you're here." A cackle rumbled in his throat as he stepped closer, fully aware of the way she was looking at him, like she couldn't trust that he wouldn't attack the second she averted her eyes - they were pack mates, but there remained potential for them to be enemies. If was quite the family that the Alpha male had constructed when it didn't have the most basic fundamentals nailed down. "Obviously the dangers of this place are no concern of yours, even less so of mine, but I trust that you'll watch your step -" his eyes were practically luminous as he tossed out the single word that it was so difficult for their kind to comprehend, "- for it'd be a sizeable shame if our Alpha lost another." And he had done it without even knowing it, having indirectly spoken volumes of the exiled wolf that he had restored from what little had lasted the fight.

They were strangers to one another, and surely she could observe with those clever eyes that she'd be better off if they stayed that way, but he had done her a service that could never be repaid by saving the life of her lover. He wasn't Teren, but he was something, and that something was far from good. Not even he could spin an accurate tale as to why he wasted his time with Samael, but surely he had an idea: in the future it would at some point entertain him as he watched bloodshed, knowing in secret while wolves he knew and lived with fought for their lives that, if not for him saving that certain heartbeat, none of it would've been possible.

[Maybe she could catch his reference to Samael and make a comment about his death? That way he could get all smug with his knowledge and surprise her by knowing that he's very much alive, and then say something about how he knew him to be alive because he was his healer? Just an idea. You can respond to it in whichever way you see fit!]

Secret's Out. [Guardian Tundra] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Secret's Out. [Guardian Tundra] Secret's Out. [Guardian Tundra] Icon_minitimeSeptember 26th 2015, 02:32

Pinky tongue ran slowly over pearly white fangs as an assessing gaze of cold hazel ran over the dark pelted brute before her. Little to no reaction was given at her words but this mattered little to the Guardian, wolves had become much too good at hiding their true emotions- her being an example of this and she no longer went by what she was shown. She returned the toothy smile thrown at her with a smaller, tight smile- simply turning the corners of her maw only slightly upwards. Magnificent eyes shone dimly in the thick fog as he gazed at her, uniquely coloured and undoubtedly beautiful.

A smirk would fix itself on her creamy maw as he spoke, leaning back on her haunches with a soft yet sharp chuckle at the words that left him. He stepped closer and despite the show of ease that was visible for those watching, inside she was mentally prepared for full attack- smirking and dancing eyes actually flicking up and down in search of good spots to aim for if the time came that it would be knowledge needed. "I guess it all comes down to how much you value your own life." She would state coolly, standing in one fluid movement. That was a dangerous move, if this wolf was one of the slightly insane ones that resided in these lands, that could be taken as an offer to fight to the death. Because she knew all too well that there were some twisted creatures here that craved an opportunity like that. But hey, maybe a fight would do her some good...as long as she won of course, her dying would really mess up things for Samael. Her tail would flick to the side. He reminded her of a snake, this wolf before her. Didn't seem like the crazed bloodthirsty type no, but just as dangerous. There was a certain slyness about him, the backstabber.

This time she would be the one to quirk an eyebrow at the words of loss. So it had already gotten out that she had killed Samael, had it? Well this would be interesting, her first wolf to put her lie to the test. Standing tall, she would raise her tail to rest over her back and let a loose arrogant smile fall into place, how would one manage to live without the ability to lie and act? It was almost sad how in this world, such a talent had become the difference between life and death. "Is it the brute Samael you speak of? I took the life from the traitor my very self." Her eyes were like razors, sharp and dangerous as they bore into this mysterious wolf before her.

She would keep her gaze fixed on this wolf, refusing to glance away as she waited almost eagerly for a response. She could still feel the urge for trouble stirring deep within her despite how much she tried to keep it at bay. She fought the urge to laugh bitterly at what her life had become, although she doubted this wolf would find it too odd. He himself had a strange aura about him that made her feel like acting a little crazy wouldn't phase him all that much. However for now she would remain silent, not a time to be going on guesses- she must remain careful and play safely until she knew more.

[Apologies for both the wait and lameness of this post.]

PostSubject: Re: Secret's Out. [Guardian Tundra] Secret's Out. [Guardian Tundra] Icon_minitimeSeptember 26th 2015, 09:25

He didn't know what to think of her, and what a strange thing that was for him, because he rather loved to think, and to piece together the inner workings of a fellow wolf was something he considered himself more than capable of doing. She stood up, maybe because he was standing and the advantage made her uncomfortable, but she still didn't attack... it looked like she was anticipating one, though, and that excited him. That she thought him - a mere Healer! - had it in him was fantastic. It meant she was smart, she knew to look beyond what met the eye, and when doing so with him, she could tell there was something far more sinister hidden underneath those plentiful smiles.

He wasn't the only one hiding things, it seemed. He lifted his eyes from her paws to her face at mention of the exiled wolf, the one she had supposedly killed. "I'm sure that pleased Teren very much, Guardian." Just because he didn't make a habit of sticking around camp didn't mean he wasn't paying attention. He knew she had climbed the ranks, and now he knew why. "Do you know what wouldn't please him? A liar, I'm sure." He didn't even blink. Not one muscle moved as he watched her, waiting for a reaction. Would she beg him not to breathe a word? Would she claim she knew not what he said?

The air was tense, he could sense it, surely she could as well, but he chuckled despite the undertones of foreboding, for he wasn't the one who needed to be newly cautious. "One day you'll learn the importance of being careful of what you say, and more importantly, to whom. He might have believed you, dearie, but I know better." His eyes, a pretty blue-green, were full of secrets, and he was much too fond of this one in particular. He had something on her, and that was surely his favourite thing to say. Luckily for her, he was in one of those rare moods where he wouldn't absolutely ruin someone's life; not so luckily for her, it meant he wanted to play games. "Samael is very much alive. I made sure of that." He didn't need to say anything more, anything less. There was now an understanding that if she didn't talk, neither would he. She could keep her rank, her false accomplishments, but was that even what she sought to gain from spreading the lie? A pretty new title? He wasn't one to judge, but when had that ever stopped him.
