| Ariste had been patrolling the territory, as usual, her scent mingling with the many, old and new, that clung to the imaginary line. Yet, even with all the wolves coming and going, they were all overpowered by the stench of the Alpha, that stood strong, claiming the lands. But she didn't flinch, ears perked, listening for a howl, or something akin. As the sun made its ascent higher and higher into the sky, though, she abandoned her post, heading toward the place she had told Piper to meet her for her next training lesson. Slowly padding forward, Ariste hated the warm sun that shone down, being greedily absorbed by her coat. The heat was very much unwanted, but it was quickly taken care of as a brisk, fall breeze brushed by her, stirring a melee of fallen leaves with it. The small pools of slowly drying, multicoloured leaves swirled around her paws, seeming as if they were alive, and running along, hovering over the ground. Golden eyes watched them with bored curiosity, following their motions as they spiraled and twirled, as if dancing on the wind. Powerful muscles rippled as her long, slender legs stretched out, feeling her muscles expanding as she preformed the basic, subconscious action. Nostrils flaring, she payed more mind on her breathing, as she chuffed out a breath. The refreshing, chilly morning air, however, was quickly becoming warmed by the sun, taking away some of Ariste's relief from the heat. By now, she was accustomed to Autumn's cruelty, and had come to anticipate the peripeteia. In the early hours of the morning, it was usually so cold, even one with a thick pelt would be tempted to simply curl back up and stay in the warmth of their home. It was a biting cold, the telltale of winter that bit into your skin, and didn't shake its hold. But once the sun came out, on an unclouded day, it would warm back up to early summer temperatures, as if earlier that morning hadn't existed at all. The fae had adjusted to such schedule, and come to expect it every day, taking it as a pleasant surprise when the day actually stayed cool from start to finish. But it seemed to be rare, in the obsidian femme's opinion.
Picking up her pace, she broke into a canter, neck stretching out, streamlined body lengthening as she began to speed up. As her destination neared, she sped up, cool air feeling as if it were pressed against her face, though it didn't bother her in the least. She slowed slightly as she reached the Hunting Moor, making sure not to trip over any of the rocks jutting out of the ground. Pulling back, she slipped into a trot, then a walk, as she stood, looking back at the treeline, wondering how far she should travel into the territory. She found this to be a suitable distance, and stalked in a circle for a moment, before sitting down, head raised, as she watched and listed for any approaching wolves, or creatures of any sort, in patient silence. |

| Stretching her long legs the apprentice broke into a brisk trot as she entered the hunting moor. The sun was over her head now and the faint breeze in the air blew at her fur. All around new colors painted the once green land into a blur of russet, gold and crimson. It was all so excited to see the change the world had to offer right before her eyes. Every day new changes wold happen, whether they be small like the drying of the grass or large when the geese started to migrate. A big change lately had been the daily trainings with the Elite Ariste. A full moon had passed since they had started and already Piper had begun to mold into the wolf the black fae wanted.
Trotting on soon the figure of her teacher came into view. Piper rolled her shoulder muscles, now larger from sparring, running and hunting. She had transformed into an accomplished wolf of the pack, one she hoped would soon gain the rank of warrior. Coming close Piper dropped her ears and cleared her throat, her head dipped in respect. "Greetings Elite, I have come as requested." She said siimply, coming to a sit behind the black fae. |

| Silky black tassel tapped against the young fae's thigh, as she relished in the moderate silence that surrounded her. Luminaries, the colour of a precious yellow metal, and glazed with a sharp sterling coating, lazily blinked as they stared at the patch of darkness Ariste's shadow created. She took deep, slow breaths. Chest expanding with each inhalation, she didn't move, even when she heard pawsteps behind her back. Ears flicking, she already knew. The steps were too light to be anything other than her own young Apprentice. And as her nostrils flared, scenting the air, she could easily identify her spoor. Her head twisted as Piper spoke, before briefly raising her rump off the ground, enough to turn around and face the Apprentice. As her eyes fell upon her dipped head, and strengthening frame, she couldn't help but mentally nod in approval. Within a season, the changes could be seen. Her still-developing body would be trained early-on in what it should do, making it all the easier to train other skills in the future, through self-discipline. Ear flicking, she nodded slightly in acknowledgement, but said nothing of it. Eyes moved to gaze across the territory once again, at the treeline a distance away. "Today you are going to bring something to me.
Across the territory, just outside the forest, I have placed a single bone from the Bison Graveyard. You are to retrieve it," She gave pause for a minute, salmon tongue lashing out across her blackened lips. "But you are to sprint there and back, never to stop moving. Not even once. Even while picking up the bone, you will not stop to take a rest." Head swiveling back to gaze calmly at the young girl, she shifted her paws as well, claws flexing. "You should strive to complete this task as quickly as your body allows you. Should you succeed, we will continue with your training. But should you fail, your punishment shall await you in the icy terrain of Frozen Fang Pass." Her shoulders rolled slightly as her dispassionate eyes were kept trained on Piper. She'd done this exercise herself the other day, to see how long she herself took to do it. So she had something to compare Piper to. Standing up, once again, her tail swished, as she turned her head toward Piper's destination, clearly expecting her to simply start preparing to go at any moment, without hesitation. She let silence hang for a beat, before nodding. "Go." |

| The young fae listened as her mentor spoke to her of what she was to do. Her eyes wandered to the forest, thinking about her path and how she would quickly get it. Her mind buzzed with the reward she would get for doing a good job, but also wondered what would happen if she failed. Ariste explained how she must not stop, even while picking up the bone. Her mind focused on the task and she nodding waiting for the signal to go. Silence hung in the air like a thick veil and the only sound Piper heard was her own heart beating in her chest.
Thump, thump, thump, thump, go!
Blasting forward Piper bolted to the forest, her legs pounding, but reserving some speed for the dash back. She ran through the trees, easily jumping logs and avoiding slipping on the leaves the littered the floor. Seeing a clear path she ran till the edge of the forest was visible. As she ran she glanced behind her, seeing her return path in the leaves. Yes, this was good. It was a fairly straight route to the clearing, but the worst was yet to come when she had to get the bone. The light got brighter and soon the trees gave way to an opening in the trees. Quickly her eyes scanned the floor for the bone before spotting it near a small sized tree to her right. It was a smaller bone, maybe the forearm of a deer or bison, certainly big enough to carry. Running harder she thought of the option of swinging wide to double back and grab the bone, but it seemed to take to long. She could also skid to a stop and grab ad dash, but it would risk her stopping completely. No, she knew what to do. Running in the direction of the bone she missed it on purpose and instead aimed at the small tree behind it. Jumping up she slammed into the top half, causing it to bend then snap back, effectively flinging her backwards. During this she twisted and landed running back at the bone. Dropping her maw down she easily grabbed it, along with grit and bolted to the forest. Her lungs pounded and her legs burned, but she ignored the pain. Faster she went, faster, faster. She could see Ariste now,. So close. Pushing herself to her breaking point she whizzed by Ariste, dropping the bone next to her. Her lungs heaved and her legs trembled, but the smile on her face beamed as she looked back to her teacher.
"Was that good Ariste?" |

| Ariste's careful eyes were trained on her Apprentice the whole time. She sat in her exact spot, even as she slipped out of clear eyesight in the foliage, ears picking up the rustling of leaves, as the small form flitted through the forest. She knew that she would keep moving. Shifting slightly, she counted the seconds in her head, waiting. It wasn't long until she saw the young fae sprinting back at an impressive speed, considering her size. She did, however, have long legs, not unlike Ariste. That would surely come in handy with running. As the bone was dropped at her side, she turned to gaze at Piper as she slowed to a stop. Her face betrayed no sway in emotions - she did not look proud, nor disapproving. She did, however, complete it with a good time, but she had no pups to compare her to. But she was getting stronger in body. But she also needed to be stronger in mind, which would come soon enough. She didn't answer for a moment, considering what to say. "It was alright." She finally answered, allowing her the small confidence boost. Outright compliments were few, and very far between with her. 'Alright' was about as close as Piper ever got. Shifting, she rose back to her paws, turning to fully face Piper. "Now were going to do something different. You're going to spar with me, but this'll be different."
Turning, she started padding away, to a spot where the Hunting Moor was clear of obstacles. Waiting for Piper to follow, she turned back, before she would continue speaking. "Instead of attacking and defending, you are simply going to attack for now. I will not attack you, and you only have to try and make it so I can't defend myself. Get the upper paw." Planting her paws, she lowered her head slightly, as her tail fell between her braces. Her eyes were calm and steady, and she made no hostile actions. She didn't intend to attack Piper, or even harm her, she simply wanted to see the extent of her fighting ability, before she worked more on it. "Attack when ready."

| Still panting Piper's eyes met Ariste's the blaze of determination and slight pride painted on her face. Much time had passed and the young fae had grown to think of Ariste as more then just a mentor. With her mother gone to who knows where it left her to keep her family name with some integrity. She would prove she wasn't a quitter, one that would run off when the goings got rough. No, she'd stay, fight and make a new life for herself here, with Ariste as her leader. The minor compliment was just that, minor; but, it fueled Piper with a deep desire to push herself harder and gain more ground. Ariste spoke and Piper's panting halted, replaced by focused ears and a stiff tail. Attack her? There had to be a catch to this for she knew Ariste liked to make Piper think. Most of the time she would return to ehr den more brain tired then exhausted. Gritting her teeth she thought of possibilities of an counter attack, but in the end decided to trust her mentor. She'd have back up plans and keep a defense, but mainly attack as was asked. Bunching her muscles Piper blasted forward, running straight at Ariste. When she got close she'd quickly duck to the right and aim at slamming into her left hip with her shoulder. It would hopefully throw her off balance and give Piper the upper hand. ____________________________________ Attack: Charge to the front then dodge to the right to push into her left hip with her shoulder Defense: Ears back and tail tucked and focused on target Injuries: none |
