Spring Flowers [Open] Empty
PostSubject: Spring Flowers [Open] Spring Flowers [Open] Icon_minitimeMarch 21st 2016, 09:29

The grey furred male trotted complacently through the tall, spindly grasses of the pasture, his warm brown gaze relaxed and somewhat content. He'd had plenty of meaningless, self indulgent dreams of doing exactly this during the winter: wandering through a field of new life without a care nor responsibility to bother him. The morning sun had just finished cresting over the distant horizon of the mountains arching in the far distance, its lambent golden rays soaking languidly through his rough coat. The vibrant green of the emergent grasses was soft and springy beneath his paws, and within the amalgamated aroma of seasonal growth he could distinguish the individual scents of copious herbs and wildflowers. He could spot a few of them too, just barely forcing their open blooms through the wavering grasses: the vibrant yellow of tansy and marigold, the round white petals of feverfew, the scarlet disks of poppy flowers, and of course, the calm, deep purple-blue of the violet for which this valley was named.

Oh, right. A diminutive smirk tugged at the edge of his maw as he slowed to a halt, not really at all bothered by the abrupt realization. I'm out of supplies. He offered himself a meager shrug at the thought, his mind sifting back to the desiccated brown stems and menial roots slowly rotting away in the back of his den. Winter had killed most everything a healer could utilize save for a few durable survivors, and his store had greatly suffered because of it. He supposed the pack was merely lucky no one had gotten seriously hurt during that time, or came down with any serious illness. He could almost hear Raven's scalding reprimand behind him. How could you be so negligent? luck my ass, you were just being careless. Is luck going to save anyone in need of herbs that aren't there?

Alright, alright, old brute, I get it. He laughed softly to himself before padding leisurely towards the nearest flower bed, carefully sniffing out the thick patch of vegetation for usable herbs. I'm not on my own anymore. This pack relies on me and Eirwen to keep them well. I should be more attentive. He thought about Tatsu and Zephyr, both of whom had been promoted, and of his other superiors, Malachai and Magnus and Chiara. He couldn't do anything to protect them from tangible attackers- he'd be the first to turn tail and run- but he could at least stave off their ailments. He carefully plucked a marigold up by its stem before lying it down amid his other ardently organized piles of herbs, and he was reminded subconsciously of the comely pale yellow of Tatsu's eyes. I wonder... would it be presumptuous of me to give her one of these... as a 'congrats on the new rank' gift? He couldn't recall anything from Mae's etiquette lessons explicitly against it. He still had yet to offer his respects to his other promoted pack mates, and he knew his foster mother would be rolling in her grave if he left that unattended to. He couldn't be rude.

Brilliant golden rays of shine lapped at the thick fur of a burly looking fae. Causing her long pink tongue to loll from between her jaws as she trod along on sturdy paws. Her pale yellow oculars looking almost golden in the sunshine were fixed ahead, in the direction of a luscious valley filled with flowers. It had become one of Tatsu's favorite places to relax in. A quiet part of the pack's territory it gave her room and time to just think. So whenever she could find the time, the grey and tan she-wolf would wander away from the rest of the pack, to explore the valley. Indulging in its pungent array of smells, she'd simply amble along. Occasionally stopping to admire a particularly beautiful bit of flora, or catch a glimpse of potential prey. Or even just sit amongst the flowers and admire the few the valley gave of the mountains beyond. Though she never did that for long because it reminded her a little too much of home.

Stifling a sneezing from the pollen of a bright purple flower, Tatsu shook her head. Her eyes blinking some as she trod along, the long green grasses rubbing up along her underside, tickling her limbs. Ears flickering she ignored the buzzing of busy bees and the scuttling of mice foraging down below the grass. Her face towards the wind, she inhaled deeply seeking nothing in particular other than a fresh taste of mountain air. Instead however the musk of a brute wafted her way. Ears perking some he fae looks around, seeking out the tawny colored brute who's scent she'd smelled. There amongst the grasses, she spotted him. The healer by the name of Samoset. One of the first wolves she'd met, upon her arrival in Pyrvanthros. Picking up her pace, Tatsu makes her way towards the brute. Once within range, she paused curious as to what the healer was doing. Collecting herbs.. I suppose, she thought. Hoping she wouldn't startle him she clears her throat.

" Good morning Healer Samoset. Enjoying the new supply of herbs I see." She comments, her voice as always was soft with a fierce undertone. Her posture however was relaxed, feeling no need to show her dominance over the healer. He was respectful already, no need to parade her rank over him. Anyways where she came from healers held a great deal of respect within their pack. " I Hope everything has been going well for you." She adds, padding slightly closer before placing her thickly muscled haunches to the ground. Moons ago when she'd joined she had found this difficult, nowadays however she was becoming more comfortable within the pack, within her rank. " No troubles I presume?" She remarks, not able to think of any wolves who'd needed healing yet. Must get boring... She thought. Wondering just how the healer remained entertained by his position. It would drive her crazy, that she knew for sure. She was a fae of action, needing to sink her teeth into something on occasion. Whether it be prey or another wolf, either way dealing with herbs wasn't her forte.

Healer Eirwen

With her gaze lowered | 'She smiles shyly' | "A soft laugh echoing"

A step at a time, Eirwen meticulously spaced her strides, maintaining an elegant gait. Spring had slowly melted away the winter's season and the weather was more often pleasant than chilly. Pretty light blue eyes glanced at her surroundings, warming slightly as she appreciated the view. The violet flowers were almost in full bloom with only a few more blooms left and with a gentle prod, she nosed at one of them, inhaling their scent. Although she never was one to sniff at flowers, often finding their smell to cause an itch in her nose, it never hurt to take a rare opportunity to acknowledge them. She hadn't any duties to attend to, nor were there any ill or injured wolves that required her assistance, a fact that she was pleased with.

Tail barely brushing the tops of the violets, she strolled through the field, an silvery presence within the purple. As she continued along, a familiar scent wafted across accompanied with another that she had yet to acquaint with. 'Samoset.' Her mind supplied usefully. It had been a while since she had seen her fellow Healer, rather, her only Healer companion within the pack. Feeling obligated to pay him a little visit wherever he was, she followed the scent trail. A soft smile present, she thought of how to say hello, would 'hello' itself suffice? In any case, they were no strangers and even this unfamiliar scent wouldn't be any harm as they were pack.

It would seem that Samoset and a wolf she vaguely recognised as Delta Tatsu stood together. It was then when the female felt unsure if she was qualified to interrupt. Would they appreciate her sudden presence? Or would they reject her? Her smile faltered slightly as nerves took over her, bring her steps to a halt. She never dealt well with approaching wolves, even if she knew them. And her anxiety wasn't going to cure itself now. Grimacing at her weakness, she admonished herself for losing all self-esteem within the blink of a eye. She had been so confident too...

Breathing out deeply through her nose, she shook her head once, 'Get your act together immediately.' Swishing her tail, she moved towards the duo, shyly but without hesitation. Biting her lip, she stared at the ground and admired her paws absentmindedly before murmuring delicately, head still bowed, "Good morning, Delta Tatsu, Sam-Samoset." Wincing at the stutter, she tried her best to look anywhere but at their faces. Well, at least, she had done it. She had incorporated herself into the group and said her hellos.

The male examined his diminutive collection thus far, his expression placidly pensive as he took stock. Lavender was in severe abundance here, and he doubted that even if he cleared the entire flowerbed of it the flower’s spreading population would be hurt at all. That concept was one of the first things he learned as a healer; if one picked more than what was needed, there wouldn’t be any plants left to germinate and replenish the area. Some plants grew back flawlessly so long as the roots were left intact, but that could take a bit of time. It was best to leave the majority in place so as to ensure he could restock as necessary for the following seasons. There was also a fair amount of tansy and marigold, less poppy. Shame I can’t seem to smell any chervil or ragwort… there’s a lot of yarrow, but that’s more of an emergency tool, not something I need in large amounts…

He lifted his snout from the dense tangles of vegetation at the sound of approaching paw steps, a congenial smile settling on his maw at the arrival of a familiar face. “Delta Tatsu.” He greeted the fae with a polite dip of his head, silently grateful for the opportunity of company; he was an extrovert, after all, and he could think of nothing more pleasant to accompany work than conversation. “Yes, well, I’m happy winter’s finally passed. I didn’t stock up enough in the fall and now my stores are… dwindling.” He released a short laugh, aloof to the former danger of the notion. Herbs were abundant now, and the frigid months of snow and bitter cold were always difficult for a healer. He remembered Raven always seemed most uncouth during the winter, though he wasn’t certain if that was due to the exacerbated aching of his joints or the lack of materials needed to relieve his joints. He supposed they were basically the same, anyways.

“Not a trouble in the world, amazingly. You know, you’d think at least one wolf would find themselves sickened in the dead of winter, or suffering a cough of some sort. I think it’s more likely my pack mates just didn’t want to bother me with symptoms, preferred instead to tough it out. And that’s fine, I’m not going to drag anyone into my den, but we are fortunate no one seriously wounded themselves. I’m sure your skilled enough to avoid that kind of outcome, right?” He wasn’t personally certain how long that statistic would hold. While Desmond and Narla had seemed like fairly reasonable canines, he knew nothing of the other two packs wandering these lands. With so many rivals in such close proximity to each other, it was inevitable that some sort of conflict would arise. He cast his thoughtful brown gaze back down towards his gathered herbs then, and an amicable smile graced his maw as he was reminded of his deed. “I almost forgot my manners.” He remarked as he stooped his head to snag up a fresh marigold in his teeth before setting it down before his peer with a theatrical bow, the usual charisma of his demeanor easily surfacing. “For you, a proper congrats on the promotion.”

He straightened up once more just as a new scent made drifted towards them on the breeze, and his smile softened somewhat at the approach of Eirwen, who addressed them with a soft, stammered greeting and a bowed head. His fellow healer was a kind she-wolf and an undoubted beauty, but she always appeared oddly subdued around others, as if she was afraid of overstepping a boundary of some sort. He wondered for a moment what could cause an individual such shyness, but he quickly dismissed the thought. Prying was peevish. Still, he felt a great deal of compassion for his peer; it certainly couldn’t be enjoyable to constantly curb her own personality like that, and he didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable around him. He dipped his head respectfully in reply to her hello, his demeanor relaxed and amiable. “Nice to see you Eirwen. I was just mentioning to Tatsu how I’ve run out of supplies. I’m sure you were more diligent with your stores over winter than I was.” He offered her an amicable grin before sifting through his gathered materials with his snout, his tone friendly and nonchalant. “You wouldn’t have happened to pass any ragwort, would you have? I usually use it when my scar starts to ache, but with all the hunting and training you guys will be doing this season, we wouldn’t want anyone to over exert themselves.”

Tatsu gave the healer a warm look, as he dipped his head in her direction. His gentle voice filling her ears, as she settled amongst the flowers. Her broad skull tilted some as she listed to the healer speak. Nodding she flashes another smile, happy to find her muscles cooperating with the motion. " Aren't we all..." She murmurs, refraining from frowning at the last part of his statement. She was no healer, so she couldn't judge. Perhaps it was common to run out of herbs in the middle of winter. Though it seemed highly dangerous, her worries over the fact were cut short as the brute went on to say no one had come seeking his skills. " I think we are all still getting accustomed to one another. Some of us have lived alone for quite sometime, I am sure as our time together progresses that more will feel comfortable coming to you for assistance. " She assures the brute, thinking of the variety of wolves within their ranks. At his last statement, Tatsu eyes him. Was that flattery she'd heard? Unsure she simply nods some. " Sure, I am though I wouldn't count on it forever. Even the most proficient fighters are apt to be injured at some point. That is if one is doing their job." She chuffs some, her paws shifting a little. The idea of battle making her fur itch with desire. She was ready for another spar, if not a real fight. Dying to get back out there, to feel that rush of adrenaline that came just before a fight.

Blinking Tatsu realized her mind had wondered, looking back up she caught the healers words. Puzzled she isn't quite sure what 'manners' he'd forgotten. However with a theatrical bow, the healer answered the question in her mind. Oh right! She thought, accepting the flower from the brute. It was a rather touching gesture, one she hadn't expected to receive. Flushing a little Tatsu, inclines her skull in thanks. " It's beautiful." She murmurs, her pale oculars fixed on the pretty bit of flora laying at her paws. Clearing her throat Tatsu realizes she'd fallen silent. Her oculars tearing from the flower, she looks into Samoset's subtle brown gaze. " Thank you, Samoset." She says, her voice nearly a whisper. It was the kindest thing anyone had done for her in a while. One she wouldn't soon forget.

Tatsu however, didn't have long to bask in the healer's kind congrats. For moments later, from amongst the flowers appeared a shy looking ivory fae. Straightening some, Tatsu recognizes the she-wolf as the other healer of Pyrvanthros, Eirween. " Greetings Eirween." She murmurs back, happy to allow Samoset to take the lead. One of her thick ears remaining on the conversation, the other swiveling for signs of trouble. All was quiet however and the Delta returned her full focus on the pair of wolves before her.
