| The russet furred she-wolf wasn't entirely certain what she was doing here at the falls. She had no urgent duties to perform and with her solitary nature she had unintentionally taken up walking about alone in her free time. The winter she had so longed for had finally arrived, and a thick layer of fresh snow coated the quiet lands. An icy chill settled over the area like a blanket, and she welcomed the freezing breeze; for once her obnoxiously course, thick tawny pelt wasn't a hindrance.
The temperature had actually dropped so low both the falls and the pools of water beneath them had frozen, and there was so much snow obscuring the landscape it was difficult to make out where the land ended and the ice began. She herself wasn't overly concerned, however; she'd grown up in the far north, and she was familiar enough with the potential dangers of the winter climate not to be worried. I should be fine so long as I do not stray too near to the water. She thought idly to herself, her usually austere expression indifferent and nonchalant. It wasn't too hard a task.
Still, despite her careless demeanor towards the possible threat, she was somewhat distracted. She knew how useless and illogical nostalgic pondering was, but she just couldn't help herself from recalling some of her earlier memories, how when she was an ignorant pup she and her sister would play-fight in the snow. Hasoka would join in when they were really little, but he grew out of it relatively quickly. She had always found comfort in the snow somehow, despite it's fairly inconvenient characteristics. It reminded her of a time where even impossible dreams could be accomplished, a time before she was aware of the harsh cruelty of realty. The world had lost its charm with the melting snow, that spring after her birth. Her parents no longer cared for her, and Hasoka was no longer "big brother" but an arrogant nuisance who saw no value in his siblings' lives. The pack shunned them away, and they were all alone.
Usagi never saw it that way though. The world would forever be some kind of magical adventure in her eyes, a beautiful fairy tail land where everything would somehow always turn out alright. She wasn't aware of the fact that they were unwanted, that there was no place in the world for them. Yuki knew, and had known for a long time. Perhaps that was why she was so protective of her sister; she was her final tie to a world that maybe wasn't always some dark, grim hell, a place that perhaps held some light in it. She was a fool for holding on so tightly to such juvenile beliefs, she knew, and she finally came to her senses when Usagi was ripped away from her, and she was forever plunged into the darkness of her own heart.
A sudden crack caught the wily she-wolf's attention, and she pricked her ears in alarm, immediately yanking herself out of her thoughts. The snow was shifting beneath her, slowly, but dangerously nonetheless. She scrambled hurriedly to her paws as the ground slid beneath her, her steely grey gaze wide with confounded consternation. Apparently she had wandered onto a snow bank at the top of a slope in her distracted state, and though she had been semi consciously checking the distance between her and the frozen water, she hadn't noticed how steep the ground was underneath. She yelped in shock and sudden terror as the snow slid away beneath her scrabbling paws and she slid down the incline, scrambling futilely for a paw hold. She fell the remainder of the way, and a sharp whine of horror escaped her maw as she plunged through the thin ice of the river, the frigid black water sloshing up momentarily over her head.
The ice began to break around her then as she feebly scrambled for the icy surface, and any hope of pulling herself out disappeared. She coughed and sputtered as the cold liquid filled her lungs, and she splashed about frantically in an effort to fight the current that was pulling her further and further away from the shore. |

| An ebony canine trudged her way through the snow-blanketed land. Paws would pull tightly against her body with each step, the thick layer of fluffy snow reaching up to her elbows and above. Clumps of snow stuck to her stomach, caking on in snowballs as her belly attracted the freezing substance. Long legs epilepsy leave deep prints in the snow, leaving no way for one to miss her tracks, unfortunately. Her pelt didn't help at all, either, the prominent splotch of black on white sticking out like a sore paw. Her small, tulip shaped ears sat pretty on her head, perked forward and listening for the inevitable, telltale sound of crunching through the first, thin layer of ice over the snow. Golden silver eyes observed and assessed her surroundings, taking in all that the land had to offer. She wasn't completely sure where she was, but retracing the steps her paws had taken her since exiting her den, she began to draw a rough draft of where se could be.
From where she had left, she had most certainly left Erenyx territory, but not yet crossed into the Helidos lands. She looked around, searching for a landmark, but finding none immediately..But she saw nothing, simply the sheet of crystallized water that spread across the land, reaching every territory, decorating the trees with beautiful icicles, and the ponds with miniature ice burgs. She might have called it beautiful, had she found pleasure in it. But for her, it was merely an empty slate. A blank canvas for her to paint and leave her mark, and she only had so much time to do as she could. As the snow hardened and became more ice than snow, she stayed on her toes, trying not to fall through as the ground solidified under her paws. Soon, there was nothing but sheer ice under her delicate paws, and the slope began heading downward. Her toes curled under her as her nails began digging in with every step. Shifting her weight to her hindquarters, she rolled her shoulders over her paws, lowering herself closer to the surface ever-so-slightly. Regaining full control over her slippery descent, she was careful to keep her balance, not wanting to risk falling. Her head remained high, however her tail remained still, swinging idly between her hind paws. As the landscape became more and more familiar, she recognized it as that people called, the "Falls of Serenity". However, the clapping roar of falling water went unheard, implying it had frozen over. With each deep inhalation, the frigid air burned her nasal passages, the frost lingering in the wind biting her lungs, attempting to chill her from the inside. Every time she let the breath in her lungs out, a puff of smoke, from heat hitting cold would rise up into the air. Meanwhile, the cold breeze cooled her skin, though the thick, silk pelt of thickening hair she possessed fought it off. Her gaze swept over the land again, ears straining for any noises.
Ideas and memories ran in circles around her head, her attention focused on the current state of the pack. Like all winters, prey was scarce, as most were hybernating or moving to warmer climates, leaving the predators to come up with their meals, but as far as she knew, they were not in famine. They had sufficient food to at least provide for everyone, if not supply a feast. No wolves had fallen sick to her knowledge, which was important, every wolf counted, so long as they proved themselves. As she thought about the pack, mentally going through the members she knew of, when she was yanked out of her mind by a yelp, a panicked yelp at that. Raising her nose in the air, though it was difficult, she detected the scent of another Erenyx female that came this way. Picking up speed slightly, she didn't risk herself, keeping her balance so she didn't fall in. Reaching the area she was searching for, she heard splashes and the scrabbles of frantic claws against ice. She watched as a pack member, one she had seen before, and possibly met, she assessed the situation as she slipped into the frozen, nearly unsurvivable waters if you got caught underwater, or couldn't swim. Cold, detached honey yellow eyes watched as the fae Hunter began to drown, the currents being strong. Stronger than her. Digging her claws in, she moved along shore, observing the Huntress, having no plans of saving her. If she saved herself, brilliant. If not, she wasn't strong enough to save herself. "Panicking will only make your situation worse. Use the current to your advantage. Save yourself." She said, muscles tensing as she braced herself to the ice, testing her limits to how close she could go before her fate would be the same as Yuki's. Eyes as frigid as the world around them trained and steadied on the one female, looking at her expectantly, making it clear she wasn't about to foolishly jump into the water and commit suicide for a lost cause. Her ears swivelled around, keeping her ear out for other visitors that may pop up. |

| Rose's paws barely touched the ground as she went for a light jog out of the Helidos lands. Her white ears perked forward as she took her time enjoying the snow covered ground and the beautiful day that was brought to her. Her amber eyes danced to and fro as she searched for something deep within herself. She honestly did not know exactly what she was doing, where she was going to be more exact. She licked her ebony nose gently, letting her shoulders fall to relax herself. The ground was cold but she didn't seem to bother with any thoughts about it. Her heart was warm and beating, that's all that mattered. As long as she lived, she would never be bothered with weather or how strong she was, weak even. She only cared about living, even if she be attack by a stranger, then she would only worry about being alive enough to get to her pack just fine. Her paws touched the snow and then lifted off the ground and then marched firmly again. Her paws left a lone trail in the freshly made snow, making it a very good trail to follow for anyone who wanted to find her. But by the end of the day, so many wolves would have passed that way that it wouldn't have mattered unless they caught her scent before the others would go walking. She took a deep breath that filled her lungs with a chilling and crispy air.
Her amber eyes lowered to the ground as she continued her small travels to her known yet unknown destination. Her white body seemingly disappeared with the snow, only her amber eyes could be made out from a distance. Her breath was gentle and yet it felt chilling to her lungs as she breathed in the air. Her tail swayed back and forth with every step that she was taking. Her white pelt clung to her skin and she looked smooth instead of having her pelt all fluffed out for winter's sake. Her mind wandered back to her pack, she had been with it for what seemed like a long time. She had been made Delta and she proudly held onto that rank because it was all she really had to prove her worthiness unto her pack. She had made family and friends and she had overcome many of her own demons thanks to them. She kept herself strong and pleasant so others would not fear her when they came to the border to seek acceptance. she would answer them with a happy heart and take care of the strangers since she had, at one point, been in almost the same position. She smiled weakly as she continued marching across the earth, ears rolling forward as she listened.
She slowly came to a stop as she heard a female voice speak and raging waters rushing. She looked before her and noticed that an ebony she-wolf was watching another female being swept away. Is this the doing of that female? Her thoughts raced but her body shot forward like a bullet. Her paws hardly touching the ground as instinct took over for her. "Hang on!" Her voice howled out and she pushed her bodies speed limit just like her old mentors had trained her to do. Her ears pressed against her skull and her body lowered slightly to the ground as she passed the ebony female with great speed. Her paws lifted from the ground and her body soared through the air and into the icy waters. Her amber eyes flinched as she was now soaked to the bone in freezing water. Her paws shifted with as much strength as she push herself until she was close enough to the female that was drifting away from shore. Her paws swirled back and forth and she pushed what had been her speed, into swimming beside the she-wolf. If the other fae allowed her, then she would help bring her to safety and help fight the current. If the fae did not seek help from her, then she would still swim by the fae's side and let the raging waters hit her more then the other she-wolf in an attempt to help.
Only one thing raged in Rose's mind. She had to help. She didn't even think about the fact that they could be from two different packs, worlds where they didn't help each other in some way. It was all she had ever known, even her last mentor had taught her plenty about fighting and just how far one should push their limits. Well, she pushed her limits now and she fought the current and put herself between the raging waves in order to help the she-wolf to the best of her ability. Of course Rose had only had two mentors and while they had taught her things differently, they taught her one thing that became endlessly important to her. They had taught her that everything was worth the fight when you set your mind and body into it. Her eyes tightened shut and then opened as she pushed herself to stay with the fae and help her. I will help you, no matter what... because I am fighting for you right now. She let herself think quietly as she struggled to be of some help to the fae in the water. |

| Yuki coughed and hacked as the dark water flowed effortlessly through her jaws, clogging her throat and weighing down her thick pelt. Her usually serious demeanor had dissolved into utter panic; how could she have been so careless? Why had she even thought about risking her life that way? The current was dragging her away from shore, and she yelped in pain as she hit a stool intact ice sheet with her back. She didn't bother trying to snag a hold of it and drag herself out; she had already seen that the ice was too thin. It would crack beneath her weight. Her only chance was to make it to the shore; the only issue with that was that she had never swam a day in her life.
Her steel grey gaze widened in terror as another ominous black wave washed over head, and she thrashed in petrified horror as she suddenly sunk below the surface. Her vision blurred as if a thin veil of black silk had blown over her, and somewhere far off the sun rippled complacently above her. Frantic and not sure of what else to do, the drowning fae kicked out desperately with her hind legs while her forepaws scrambled upward. Fortunately she was able to propel herself forward, and she gasped hurriedly for breath once her head broke the surface.
There was a voice shouting to her from the shore, she realized, and she turned her snout hastily towards the source of the noise, somehow glimpsing a canid figure through her hazy vision. It didn't take her but half a moment to process her peer' swords: calm down and save yourself. Well thanks a lot for that! She wanted to snarl at the female, and she would have voiced her frustration if there wasn't fluid filling her lungs.
She felt like she'd been struggling out there for hours, and her limbs were heavy with fatigue. No, come on! You can't honestly be this weak! She snapped irritatingly to herself, grudgingly taking her pack mate's advice and giving up her futile battle against the current. I can't die... I don't want to die. Not yet.
Her attention was suddenly drawn to the appearance of a slick white body swimming effortlessly up beside her, and she blinked in bewilderment as she realized it was another wolf. What? Flea brained mutt... Who would voluntarily jump into a freezing river to aid a stranger? Still, the shrewd female wasn't dumb enough to refuse help. Those who placed dignity above their own lives were undoubtedly morons.
She allowed the white furred fae to guide her to shore, taking note of her long, confident strokes and trying her best to imitate them. Finally her exhausted paws hit smooth stone beneath her, and she quickly heaved her lanky body out onto the fresh snow. She stood with her back hunched, her drenched tawny pelt hanging like an ill fitting sweater from her thin frame. She convulsed as she retched up a bucketful of water, her stomach aching from the effort. |

| The ebony female watched the struggling fae, eyes blank, cold gold without emotion. She cared not about her life - she wouldn't expect another of her pack members to save her if she were drowning. She had been ignorant enough to stray from safety without somehow checking to see how far she could venture onto the ice. Winter was beautiful, but dangerous. One had to be wary of where they stepped, especially when around precarious ice. It was only early into the season, and the lakes could surely not sustain the weight of a wolf. She dug her claws in, ear suddenly twitching as she heard a second splash, aside from Yuki's frantic ones. Her gaze shifted for the moment, luminaries landing on the ivory wolf paddling toward the other fae. She was somewhat impressed with her bravery and strength to keep from immediately being swept away with the current, unable to keep her head over her tail. Pausing, she halted, watching as the white fae guided Yuki and herself to the safety of the shore.
Ariste stared surprisedly at the white wolf, trying to match a name with her face, but coming up empty pawed as she was unable to, and deciding she was either Helidos, or a Rogue, so it was also strange that she was helping an Erenyx wolf. She must know this wolf was not one of her own. After a moment, she approached them slowly, black paws crunching and breaking the pure snow under them, but staying atop it. Her ears were alert and forward, as her eyes flickered to the Huntress of Erenyx, and back to the mystery wolf. "Who are you?" She rumbled, breathing in the icy air as her tail swished behind her, banner involuntarily moving in the wind as the cold breeze ran it's chilly finger through her pelt, running over her skin. "Hunter Yuki, why did you foolishly stray onto the ice? Were you not paying attention?" She barked, chuffing as she shifted her pressure to her hind paws so as not to topple and slid into the water herself. Her orbs roved back to the alabaster female again, as she awaited an answer from either of the pair.

| Rose had been able to guide the she-wolf to the land and with ease she pulled herself up onto the snow. She moved a few feet away from the raging water. Her whole body shivered and she tried hard not to gasp as it settled into her bones. Slowly, she moved to the deep snow and dropped, rolling in it in order to remove the water and some of the chill. "You are going to want to roll in the snow as well miss, otherwise you'll catch cold." She nodded as her wisdom passed onto the next wolf and then slowly she would go back to her original place and just stand there, still slightly soaked. Her amber eyes settled on the ebony fae that approached her. Oddly enough, the fae looked like her old mentor. But deep down, Rose knew it was not her and so she shook her pelt slightly and tilted her head to the one whom spoke to her. Her tail flicked and before she could answer the question, the seemingly packmate of the other barked out harsh words unto to the one she had helped. This severely irked her and a low grumble rose to her throat and then settled in her chest as she stayed quiet since it was really none of her business. She breathed in the scents of the females and slowly it registered that they must both be from Erenyx. Her ears flickered and a look of doubt crossed her face as she pondered about leaving the two to just bicker.
"Rose." She simply spoke her name as she truly didn't think giving away her rank would be wise. She knew that Erenyx was not too different then her pack, but she was wise enough not to pick a fight due to the fact they were from different packs. She licked her ebony nose and flinched at the thought of getting into a fight with two wolves. "Do not blame miss Yuki for her actions, accidents can happen..." She finally sighed out the words that weighed against her mind and slowly she looked up at the ebony she-wolf. "But anyways, who are you?" She asked politely but her temper was on edge as she almost instantly took a disliking into the hard-edged she-wolf. She shook her head slowly and breathed in the chilling air. Her heart pounding and she decided that she couldn't really dislike someone that she didn't know. She was unsure but she felt as if the ebony fae was a higher rank then the one that had fallen into the river. Her eyes blinked slowly and she could feel the cold wrapping around her as a gentle breeze blew across the lands. Her small frame shook slightly and she breathed, trying to stay calm. She tilted her head to the multi-colored fae and smiled warmly. "Are you alright miss?" Her voice was gentle as she asked the question, trying to keep herself as nice as possible for the two faes. Sure, she had some problems... but she wanted to be her best for them. She didn't know why, but even though she felt irked, she also felt respect for the two she-wolves. |

| The tawny furred female rasped quietly as her breathing slowly returned to its usual pace, and she was suddenly very aware of the frigid breeze cutting effortlessly through her soaked pelt. She shivered slightly, her dull grey eyes narrowed into a steely glower at her body's involuntary response. She scoffed in audibly when the white fae told her to roll about in the snow, annoyed by the command. Still she did it, much preferring to rid herself of the icy cold.
Her lips pulled up in a snarl at the ebony wolf's scathing rebuke, soon recognizing her as Delta Ariste. Great... Now I have some pompous higher up on my tail.
"Oh no, I had just thought I'd go for a nice refreshing swim." She stated slowly, her patently sarcastic voice dripping with venom. She knew full well she'd made a mistake, and it was humiliating enough to get rescued by a Helidos otter. She didn't need to be reprimanded. She wasn't some sniveling pup.
She shifted her aggravated glare over to the white wolf- Rose, she'd called herself- when she defended her, a bitter resentment sitting in the back of her throat. She didn't need anymore help; in fact she was already ashamed she'd required aid in the first place.
The fact of the matter was, Ariste was right. She hadn't been paying attention; her usually logical, analytical mind had drifted off into the realm of her memories. Of course she'd been foolish, and she got what she deserved for indulging in nostalgia. Wake up dolt, She told herself silently, a strange pain rippling through her chest like the scrape of a thorn. This is the world. Your sister is never coming back.
"I'm fine." She muttered curtly under her breath in reply to Rose's inquire, her sour, austere expression infected with a sullen indignation. |

| The Deltess' auditories roved, often twitching as they observed through sound any oncoming opponents or danger, her nostrils flaring and doing the same. Her tongue flicked out to wet her nose, the cold muscle's heat contradicting her icy cool to the touch nose. She observed both wolves - which, to her, looked more like drowned rabbits as they attempted to release some of the water drenching their pelts into the snow. She caught the slightly annoyed gaze that drifted her way, residing in amber eyes, but payed no heed to them, scanning her to make sure she was not in an offensive posture before she turned her eyes back to Yuki, listening to the fae's words. "Accidents happen, but mistakes can be prevented." She spoke slightly, shifting her weight once again to the optimum position, as she moved into a more favourable position, where her grip sunk deeper into the snow, helping her chances of holding on to her grip.
Her cold gaze flickered to Yuki, as she bared her fangs, and Ariste gave her the courtesy of returning the favour, bearing a small warning growl existing deep in her throat as well. "Well, I hope you had fun. But I don't think you're in any position to be snarling at anyone, so you would do well to hold your muzzle. You've shown nothing more than a wolf not from our pack is more capable than you." She said, ears twisting toward her and pushing forward on her head before she dropped the offensive stance, shooting Yuki a harsh glare. Finally turning back to this Rose, who had inquired about herself, she let the words roll off her tongue with ease, meeting her orbs without doubt.
"Delta Ariste, of Erenyx." She responded, with a small nod of acknowledgement to the opposite in colour and demeanor fae, interested in her ability of swimming in such rapids. Perhaps she grew up in similar terrain, where that was a constant hazard. "And if I had to guess, I would say you are one from Helidos?" She held back a sneer at the word, as once again her salmon coloured tongue slithered out of it's home in her mandible, warming her tongue and preventing it from acquiring frost bite. Once again her metallic gaze flickered over the vixen, observing her stature in an attempt to determine her rank. She looked as if she could have been any of the starting ranks - Warrior, Huntress, Caretaker or Healer. She certainly had the attitude of a caretaker, but that didn't mean she was one. Filing it in the back of her mind, she fell silent, listening only to the whistling of the wind as it blew through the land, and the ideas buzzing about in her own mind, one ear turning to Rose, showing that she was at least semi-listening. |

| Slowly Rose took her turn in shifting as the two faes seemed intent on arguing and being fairly sarcastic. Glares and snarls, baring teeth and harsh words were thrown back and forth. She listened with an amused look upon her face, a giggle wanting to escape her maw as she thought that they acted like siblings in a resentment argument that usually ended in laughter. She shook her head slowly and gave a bow of respect to the ebony she-wolf as she spoke her name and rank. So we are equals then... She thought quietly to herself and slowly she raised her head and sighed at how small she was compared to them both. "Indeed... I am the Delta female of Helidos." She smiled gently and gave a firm nod of her head, tail swaying slightly. She forked over her rank and the truth of her pack since she had nothing to hide from them. "I agree with you Delta Ariste, mistakes can be prevented... however, mistakes are something you learn from in order to not make the same mistake twice, and perhaps to not make as many mistakes in the near future." She tilted her head as she let her gaze fall upon the Huntress, a warm smile crossed her maw and she nodded again in understanding as to why the she-wolf seemed slightly upset with her.
She slowly licked her ebony nose and shifted ever so slightly so she would be able to move quickly in case they attacked her. She only knew Aleu who was daughter to a fae from Erenyx, and while Aleu was sweet, she knew nothing about the others. She had met one Erenyx wolf whom instantly picked a fight with her, and so she simply didn't want to spar with two wolves and come on the losing side. She wasn't built in strength, but she could move around quickly and strike her opponent with great force. But to handle two wolves with her being chilled to the bone, she was at a great disadvantage and so she simply shifted and tried to look relaxed. She honestly missed a few things about meeting other wolves, their kindness and yet how they could act so harsh. She was standing in a zone that cried out for her to leave, yet she was too curious to simply leave them. She wanted to know what exactly made them different and why they could not get along. Was it simply a conflict in leadership? Or perhaps the wolves of Erenyx were truly pure evil. Rose had her own demons... but she doubted anyone could be pure evil. Her amber eyes sparkled and she smiled weakly as she listened for a response and to see how they would act. She was small, but she had something that made her strong.
"Tell me, for I am a bit curious... what is Erenyx like? I have only met a few wolves from there... and while I fought one because he picked a fight... the other seems fair." She rambled slightly, trying to work it out in her head as she spoke. "Surely we have our differences... but maybe we are similar as well?" Her voice rang out like silk, quiet and soft but also strong enough to show she was not weak. Her amber brown eyes danced from one she-wolf to the other as she awaited a reply. She studied the ebony fae closely, something about the fae just attracted her attention. As for the multi-colored she-wolf, she also seemed to grasp the ivory fae's attention. Her ears flicked forward to show she was listening, and her tail swung loosely behind her as she breathed and pondered as how they would answer. Her heart beat against her chest, and she knew that very soon, after their chat... that she would be heading to the healers den just to make sure she would not get too sick. |

| The huntress flattened her ears at her superior's scathing response, her flint grey eyes sharp with resentment. She was never going to admit it out loud, but... She had a point. Her inability to save herself was an obvious sign of weakness. What if she had still been a rogue when that happened? No one would have come to her rescue, and she would surely be sinking to the depths of a watery grave. I have to learn how to swim... I can't risk losing my life or my dignity. She made a mental note in the back of her mind, that on the first spring morning when the ice sheet covering the rivers had melted away, she would be in the water once more.
The shrewd fae narrowed her eyes slightly when the white furred she-wolf mentioned being a delta as well, a small wave of annoyance rolling over her. She didn't care for the ranking system at all- actually, she happened to loathe it. Still, it didn't give her enough reason to automatically dislike the female. She had risked her own life to save her, after all, an act Yuki still did not entirely comprehend. Sounds like she's got quite the life in Helidos. She has no reason to throw that away from what I can tell, unless she's not near as content with her life as she seems. No... She must have an ulterior motive of some sort. No one ever does anything like that unless there expecting something in return.
A sharp, hollow laugh escaped her maw when the Helidos fae asked them to tell her what Erenyx was like, her steel grey gaze sharp with keen distrust. "Oh, you'd like to know what Erenyx is like? Well, let's see..." Her mockingly sweet tone was dripping with sarcasm, and the fake grin she donned concealed a terrifying virulence. She slowly got to her paws and stood at her full height, her long legs and skinny frame exemplifying her lithe demeanor. "We start the day by worshipping our almighty idol, the glorious alpha Teren. We feast on the bones of young pups and wear the pelts of our felled enemies as fashionable winter coats. We make our nests out of spilled organs, and every night we gorge ourselves on putrid blood!" She finished her mocking tale with a highly exaggerated maniacal laugh, Her tail lashing in irritation. Her sarcastic grin instantly dissipated into apathetic exasperation; of course her intentions hadn't been pure.
