An Yet, Her Shell Breaks Again Empty

The faint crunch of lightly frosted grass and frozen dirt sounded under the callused paws of the old wolf as she carefully padded into what smelt like another pack's territory. Birds just above her head chirped and sang their many songs to one another, enjoying the slowly melting snow as much as she did. As the wind blew, the trees around the wolf swayed, dancing to the songs of the birds. She held her head low to the ground, taking in each sweet and sour scent of living beings. Her curious nose twitched every now and then, brushing against the cold soil. "Oh goody," She huffed aloud. The black pelted female smiled to herself, lifted her head and scanned her cold amber eyes over her surroundings like an important art critic. 'There's a pack here.' She thought as she slowly padded on.
Aconitum continued on for a spell before she grew tired of walking and lied down on a large, smooth rock. Looking out into the thick trees, she thought to herself. Inhaling deeply, she took in the changing seasons. The air tasted sweet in the back of her throat and made her ears twitch in delight. "This spring will be a good one. I just know it." She chipped. The old female stretched her paws far out in front of her and smiled wide as she listened to her bones crack. She loved it when her joints made that sound. For reasons lost on her, it always made her hungry. Aconitum chuckled softly as her stomach growled and she dragged her tongue across her lips. "Later. I'll get food later." She scolded herself aloud. For now, she would wait to be found by a pack wolf. After a long while of waiting, Aconitum cringed when a thought crossed her mind. 'Idiot. You need to call for... lord, I'm losing it.' She let out a loud sigh before lifting her muzzle to the air and letting loose a loud, strong howl deep within her throat.

Rose's paws carried her forth from the camp clearing. Her tail swayed as she went to do something she found herself quite enjoying, the border patrol. She liked meeting the many new wolves that wished to be accepted into the pack. Her ears flicked with each step she took, one stride after the other. Her paws hardly touched the ground as she kept moving, body and tail swaying with every joyful step she took. Her heart was beating and her breathing was gentle, she decided to take it fairly slow today. She was always running but now she was going to try to take it easy and relax. A howl interrupted her thoughts and instantly threw her from taking it slow to running at her full speed. She let her own soft voice ring out in a responding howl. Her paws slid across the earth as she pushed herself forward in a quick run. Her tail swung behind her and she felt as if she could just jump for joy. She was in one of her best moods and as she neared the border, she slowed her pace and caught her breath. She let her tail swing neutrally between her legs and she hid in the shadows until she saw the he-wolf that had called her forth. Slowly, she approached with a smile upon her face. She sat down and curled her tail around her body and let it rest upon her front paws. "Hello fair stranger, I am Delta Rose of these lands known as Helidos. Whom might you be and is there anyway I may be able to help you?" She smiled and tilted her head ever so slightly to show she was curious. Her ears flicked slightly as she awaited to hear the she-wolf speak unto her. She swayed with the winter wind that wove it's way through the woods they were in. Rose kept herself friendly, as that was all she could ever do to welcome another. Her amber eyes searched the fae in front of her, watching her carefully in case he may attack. She rolled her shoulders back and made sure she sat very still and straight, but relaxed to let the other wolf know that was of no harm to her.

Aconitum looked at Rose with a bright smile and leaped from her perch. She padded happily up to the other female with a skip to her step. Once she reached Rose's side, Aconitum pressed her nose into the fur on Rose's cheek. Aconitum couldn't help it. She loved meeting new wolves when she got the chance, which rarely happened, so she always got touchy feely. "I am Aconitum, but please just call me Acon. I do hate hearing my full name." Her voice was muffled, but still smooth and kind. "Delta of Helidos, you say! Well, my lovely, are you in charge of recruitment, or will I be taken to your leader?" Aconitum sat down close, very close, to Rose and flashed her a wide smile with bright eyes.

Rose chuckled warmly and nodded her head. "Oh indeed not, all ranks Delta and above are in charge of accepting lovely new members at the border. Such as yourself Acon." She called the fae by what she wanted, understanding fully the despising of a full name. Her own sister had changed her name, though that was of no shock to herself. Her tail swished and she looked startled as the she-wolf pressed her nose against Rose's cheek. She leaped backwards, her fur standing on end and a low growl escaped her maw. Her amber eyes lit a blaze, she had learned to be trusting... but there were limits that a stranger could do to her. "At ease Aconitum. You shouldn't have crossed the borders and touched a stranger like you know them. It startled me." Her fur settled down and she licked her maw guiltily, hoping not to startle the she-wolf off. "I am not used to sudden touch from strangers, but setting that aside..." She straightened out, looking like a perfect princess she felt she should be. "I have a few questions for you, first... where have you come from? What are the skills you can offer Helidos?" She pondered as to what exactly she should say to the strong looking fae. Of course Rose was at a slight disadvantage due to the fact that she was much smaller then the fae. Her amber eyes sparkled at the thought of accepting such an eager wolf. Surely this Aconitum will do well within our family, our pack. She is eager and friendly beyond expected. I believe she will be a fine addition as long as she keeps her cool some of the time. She thought quietly to herself and then slowly licked her muzzle again, ears flicking forward as she awaited a response from the fae. She thought about how she had been when she was younger, always exploring and not having a care in the world. She had always run up to strangers and tackled them with all her might, or she would be shy when her parents or siblings had been with her. She smiled at the small memories that appeared in her mind.

Aconitum blinked and raised a brow in confusion at Rose. "Mother did always say pack wolves were an odd lot." She whispered to herself, none too quietly. After a moment, Aconitum shook her head and sat on the ground with her hind legs out in front of her as if she were going to scoot around on her butt. "You'll have to excuse my behavior, my dear. I'm not all there. Sometimes I forget not all wolves are mad." With this, she cackled like a witch, throwing her head back and opening her mouth wide towards the sky. Aconitum stopped her laughing very abruptly, however, and put on a serious look as she settled down to eye Rose suspiciously. For a passer by, it might have seemed the larger female was the one doing the questioning. Her face looked poisoned with anger and disgust as she stared at Rose for a good three minutes. Her strong jaw was clenched tightly and her hot amber eyes bore into the wolf before her. "For lack of a better phrase, lets just say I came from Hell on Earth if not from somewhere worst." It was clear she hadn't completely forgiven herself or the father of her late pups for what happened to them. Evidence of this would show from time to time through moments like this despite Aconitum's best efforts to beat back the bursts of anger. After a little while longer, the dark furred female blinked and her usual dumb grin spread across her face. "What was your other question, dear? Skills I have to offer? Well, as you can see, I'm a bit... brawny. Ugh! I almost look male!" She exclaimed in horror. "I-I... will worry about that later. Anyways, I'm good in brawl; light on my feet and surprisingly quick. These legs aren't just for attracting the eye of a mate, darlin'. They give me a kick; a quickness you wouldn't believe. I also like to think I'm an excellent battle strategist. The knowledge I've acquired over the years has helped me immensely on the field and still does."

Rose watched and listened to the she-wolf, she was indeed a mad wolf. Insane with heartache was Rose's guess. Her own amber eyes narrowed and she slowly stood, her small frame tilted at an angle so she may see the other fae clear enough. It was clear in her mind that the fae was indeed crazy, she had no right to judge, but she had never met such a wild wolf before. As the darker she-wolf looked disgusted upon Rose, she felt guilty but her stance stayed strong and her face emotionless as she watched the strange creature. Her deep amber eyes studied every part of her, watching with a curious glint. Is this what a crazy wolf is like? She thought quietly to herself, listening to the words that were spoken. Slowly, she walked forward, walking around the darker she-wolf. "Acon, every wolf has a past and I have come to the conclusion that you hold some kind of bottled emotion within you." She paused and stopped directly in front of the taller she-wolf, her amber eyes looking up at the hues that melted like honey. "Even with such emotions, as long as you can promise me that your loyalty will stay with Helidos and that no harm will come upon the members of this pack, then I will accept you as a Warrior." Slowly the white fae backed away and sat upon her haunches, looking on for a few moments of silence. "You do not look like a brute, you look very beautiful and are obviously can be seen as a fae." She tried to be reassuring, hoping that her kindness would help open the she-wolf up. "Acon, is there anything I can help you with? I am and always will be here, if you need to vent anger, or hurt, or just talk anything out that bothers you... let me know and perhaps I can be of some help." She slowly let the words fall off her tongue and into the open air, she really did care about the darker female, but she was also concerned for her pack-mates. She breathed in and out slowly, watching every movement the fae would make. She felt protective of her family, the place she called home and she only cared about the safety of others. She wanted the darker she-wolf to be safe, to find a family among them and to be able to feel free from her past emotions. Rose didn't know the story, nor the past, but she knew the present was as good as any to finally be free.

Aconitum sighed as she hoisted herself up-right. Her bones cracked lightly as she moved. She put on a tight smile, studying Rose a moment. "Careful there, darlin'. Asking a lunatic to share her stories is pretty risky business." Aconitum chuckled a bit. "You pack wolves are an odd lot. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised." She laughed like a witch again in the same fashion she had before. When the old female lowered her head, she sighed happily. "Don't you worry, love; My teeth only come out on the field and betrayal is not a word in my vocabulary." Aconitum met Rose's eyes with her own. "Rose, you're a kind wolf. Very kind, yet very strong. Why?" The dark furred fae raised a brow as she eyed Rose. "Where I'm from, newcomers were handled with brutality and such aggression, it was unreal. Hell, sometimes they weren't even handled at all. If Mal wasn't in the mood for 'kindness', he'd practically gut them where they stood." The memories made Aconitum shudder and her ears pin back against her head. It was terrible what Mal, her former alpha, would do to unfortunate wolves that found their way across his territory. His cruel treatment was sickening and lingered around Aconitum's memories like a terrible stink that refused to go away. 'He's not here anymore. Please calm down. It's useless to get all bent out of shape. It's over.' The old fae shook her head furiously and sighed. "Ugh. Can we go? My head is starting the pound." She whined, lowering her head.

Rose took a deep breath and nodded as the fae talked. "Acon, I am kind because it is how I was treated, sure I have had rough spots, but I want everyone to see me and know I am a friend, not an enemy." She turned and started walking away throwing her head to look over her shoulder. "Come, lets us get you fed and a den so you may rest at ease. Herbs for a headache is you please." She turned and twitched her tail, motioning for the darker fae to follow her into the camp clearing. Once there, she would help the fae find a den and show her the kill pile so she may eat till her hearts content. Rose smiled at the thought of helping her, showing her that not every wolf was bad. She would not speak again, letting it settle in that the fae was finally home and safe. Rose was proud that she was able to accept others and bring wolves into their pack to watch them grow and see them become better then they are.
