Innocence Is Bliss, Not Ignorance Empty

Night cascaded over the land and for the first time in a long time, the stars brightly shown over the land. Illuminating it's glow upon the changing leaves, the colors of the darkest rainbow and the warmth he felt from them. The husky male paced quickly into the clearing, it was small and indeed a circle of trees engulfed by the wood. Amber eys scanned around for life, but it was void, much like his feelings at the particular moment. However, there on the low hanging branches of shrubbery, a strong odor emanated from the bristled leaves. The scent of a male, brute in his nature and the sweet under tone of testosterone. It was intimating to smell, the scent of another male but still Omen was strapped in life, days being out numbers.

Although he wasn't elderly and far from it, the sprite male was still swift in his movements but as he aged he knew that life on the mile was no longer an option for him. All he longed for was the comfort of a pack, where he could work diligently and thoughtfully with no harm. Solely protecting the life of the pack, the future of the pack, and any pack for that matter. The male was a humble creature, placing his past behind him and the war on society he smiled and called out to the other side of the boarder. The sound was low in it's tone, deep and baritone, as it echoed throughout the fir. As it trailed off, it's sharp cut off was nearly audible as the tone was octaves below his normal speaking voice. The sound was full of tiresome travel and weary adventures. Omen stared at the ground, his rear mindlessly finding it's place beneath him.

Innocence Is Bliss, Not Ignorance Empty

Night brought solitude, peace and serenity to the land as well as the strained mind of the black fae who walked upon it. She had heard of a fight breaking out which involved Magnus and another male which resulted in him ending up in the healer den. Having visited him earlier that day her few words with him were brief, but promised much thought for her already strained mind. There was much to think about as the male's words of what must be done to ensure both of their happiness. He told her of Steele's plot and what was expected of her come the beginning of winter. Her mind was a swirl of what ifs and doubts of going through with the plan or casting aside her male to find happiness elsewhere due to her selfishness. As much as she liked and cared for Magnus the thought of lying with Steele scared her. He reminded her of her father with that gleam in his eye of desire and hatred, she could only imagine what influence he would have of the litter he sired. She also wondered what would truly happen to her male if she refused. Though he refused to say the thought of his demise did cross her mind. Still unsure Chiara had made her away into the night to collect her thoughts, the moon and stars her only source of light.

A howl on the wind broke her solitude and set her on alert, who was out here this time of night? Perking up and casting most of her thoughts aside she went into Lead Warrior mode and trotted towards the source of the caterwauling. Quickly the black fae covered land, coming to the border in only a few minutes. There before her stood a quite stocky brown male who stood only a bit higher than herself. Built like a tank she noticed the scars that adorned his pelt and the well defined muscles of his chest and legs, what stories of battles he must have? "Who are you male? I am Chiara, Lead Warrior of the Erenyx pack. I suppose you aren't out randomly howling at borders to wake all sleeping wolves up who work all day. No, you like so many others must want to join our humble pack, so speak up what good are you to me?" She asked, her voice stern as she addressed the male before her. In no mood for games she would make this quick for there was still some sulking and pondering she needed to do before morning patrol.

Far too long on the mile, far too long alone, and all maners ceased to exisit. The moment he heard her speak of howling into the night, he almost whined in embarrassment but then his mind corrected the thought to the wild nature of who he was. It was acceptable for wolves to howl at night, maybe not so common place in these lands but indeed he did feel solace for disturbing the peace. As she found her place and her words, quickly the brute glanced over her and took in her size and attitude. The mind wandered as to what to say, nothing but honesty was found from his lips and brushed into the air, like history written into a book. Still, his words were quick and smart, "My name is Omen, I am a Caretaker." It wasn't that he was incapable of speaking, he just firmly answered her questions. Never one to speak before spoken too, Omen found that it was easier to go through life this way, only speaking unless he found the words to break the silence he had grown accustomed too. As he sat there, he realized this could piss her off, but he stayed quiet.

Moments passed, Omen then found his mind apologizing to her, but the words did not come out. Was he really sorry for interrupting their sleep, surely there were others still awake in this time of night. The female before his did not look weary for sleep, her body wandering the wood for what? Boarder patrol. Omen, bowed his head briefly, it was his way of solitude and in the comfort of the moment, he just blankly stared at her. A mind full of so much to say, knowing full well what questions would follow. It was always the same, a brief explanation as to who he was, what he was good at, his defaults, and his loyalty. Taking an oath to forever abide by the laws and rules set forth by the Leader, King, or Alpha. It was all the same, it was what he left in the first place not from death but by decree, and now he was trying to enter it once more. Why? The only question that repeated in his subconscious, why?

The male spoke and normally his curt and short answers would receive a warning growl or snarl from the fae, but his stance was submissive so she ignored it. "Omen? Interesting name. You say a caretaker? Not too many males want that job even though it comes with a heavy work load. Are you incapable of preforming other tasks so you decide to watch pups?" She taunted seeing if she could get a rise out of him. "I can see you eat well and your scars say you've been in fights, but do you come out the victor? A caretaker would need to be able to defend pups and provide for them. When they grow the caretakers also train them in the ways of the pack so they are useful. Why do all that instead of be a warrior or hunter?" She probed wanting to know his reasons. The pack needed caretakers, mainly come spring when litters would be born. Talk around the pack said Katyusha would have one from Steele as would she if she agreed to it. Perhaps Nyx would have one as well and who knew who else.

Her tail swished behind her as she thought more about this. This was a different type of meet-and-greet for her for she could be potentially be letting in her future litter's caretaker. If that was the case there was more she would need to know. He would need her full trust as it would be her first live litter and the very blood of their Alpha. She would not let harm come to them and would kill anyone in her path who tried, anyone.

In his mind it was far too simple, but in the minds of other it's was far too perplex for them to comprehend. Still, he spoke, "Some are board to fight, every drop of blood coursing through their veins tells them that they need the adrenaline to concur. Whether it's ego or attitude, they battle untill blood coats their paws. Then some are born to hunt, to feed themselves and the other's of the pack, as you can see I am not incapable of either of these traits and it's a choice that I am not entertained by such actions. What you may think is a heavy work load, is by far the most challanging roles any wolf could learn to overcome. It's in the balance of good and evil that a caretaker must mold and shape the minds of future generations. Anyone can be a warrior as you can see from the battle scars once earned from defending a litter, anyone can hunt as you can see I am full and hefty from nourishment, but not everyone can share wisdom with pups and teach them right from wrong. For we as adult wolves are not so easily changed, we as adults are not so easily amazed, and it's only in the innocence and wonder in a pups eyes that proves to me that I indeed have made the right decision and will continue to make the right decision." Omen shifted his weight and stretched his back briefly, every muscle ached and as he shook his pelt his looked her in the eyes.

"It's a challenge, the only one that keeps my mind always on point. If I choose one role over the other, it's is unlikely that I will be able to mentor the future generations of the pack. When there are no litters to be raised, I am just like them both. Capable of performing each task, excelling in both, but my fate was chosen a long time ago and that was to be a caretaker. A crown was given up in my choice and a decision that is easily accepted in my eyes, maybe no so in others but cetainly in mine. Not one wolf would see my reasons and actions as logical, unless they too have awoken to the impact that ranks can cause. We are not placed into a place where we don't belong, it's unnatural, and we must grow into the rank we are chosen... no destined to be a part of. Being a caretaker is mine." Omen's humble face lost it's connection with the lead warrior's and he thought briefly. This would be the most he would say to her, it was indeed hard to explain and if she couldn't see where he was coming from, she too was just as blind as the male who too the heir to his crown and kingdom. "Ignorance will blind you and destroy the inner soul, where as innocence will enlighten you to a world not so easily joined."

Chiara listened as the male spoke for a long period of time. Her mind accepted his words and she remained quiet until he had finished talking. Heart poured from him as he spoke of caring for pups, a desire to teach them like there was nothing else in the world but do that. She felt the same way about training to be stronger, for it was the very essence of her soul to better herself. Feeling similar to the male in this sense her tone softened when she finally spoke. "Caring for pups is a position of honor and respect at least in my eyes. Some in the pack may think otherwise but I've always thought its holds high value. Without care prey won't grow and feed our bellies, such is the care of pups. Without strong leadership they will waft away from our beliefs and not reach their true potential." She said, her eyes growing soft now.

"We have no pups now in the pack, but come the spring there will be some to care for. We will need strong guidance for them, someone who views this rank with honor instead of a chore. So, Omen I will give you the rank of caretaker if you pledge yourself to the pack and its leader Steele. Then and only then with you come to rest in this pack and take steps to raising our young." She didn't mention that one of the litters might be her own, that may influence him in the wrong way. No she'd rather get to know the male first, perhaps he would make a good ally to have.

It was in her moment of hesitation or her own humble voice that he realized that she was a lot like him, protective of values once instilled by a caretaker long ago. It was a deep rooted reason as to why he longed to care for pups. The cream jaws parted briefly, his hot breath came out as fog on the still air, and his words were quick. "I swear." It was simple, over in a matter of moments and he realized he would forever be a part of Eneryx. Still, her words saddened him that there were no pups as of yet, but surely some to come in the spring. The bushy tail wagged slightly in the idea of tiny whelp running a muck, but he held his composure. Omen bowed to the female for her time and was gracious that it went as easy as it did, sometime it was harder, and more of a challenge as males tended to buck other males but he found a comfort in this female. A last friendship would be bound to come from it, should they both agree. Right now, it was Omen's sole purpose to know the lands and the pack as best as he could, to be current on all pack standings and laws and to know where he was in his place. To find his home, build his life, and maybe even find more than one friendship other than the lead warrior.

Omen stood up, his brute body hung heavy in the night as he prepared to accompany the female into the land. The moment exciting and enchanting as he shook himself of all the worries in the world, for a moment his clear and level mind was void and open to the world. "Your kindness does not go unoticed Miss, remember that. A favor is now indebted to you and when you plan to cash out, I hope it is in the form of care of pups in your favor." Omen was ready to go, ready to find his home and begin his digging through the night, for rest would come tomorrow and maybe the following day before he began to journey through the lands.

Giving the male an actual smile Chiara dipped her head curtly to him and rose from her sitting position. Shaking out her fur she looked over her shoulder to the cloak of blackness the forest had to offer. It promised secrecy for her secrets and desires that plagued her mind. Knowing there would be someone whom she could grow to trust watching over her pups helped ease her mind around the idea of having them. Maybe she could push past that horrors of being mated to Steele when she knew her pups would be safe and she would be granted Magnus. "Very well you shall be known as Caretaker Omen. You'd do best to find the healers of our pack and collaborate with them, they are useful to know and befriend. Also learn the land and start on making the whelping den as we currently don't have one." She instructed turning to leave.

Normally she would bound away to go off alone, but tonight was different, she wanted company. "I will indeed take you up on that offer. Most likely a litter next season will be mine, though I won't say who the father is. I wish for their protection and for them to learn there is more to life than killing. Something I hope they can learn under your guidance if you pledge a favor for me." She said, motioning for him to follow her. "Come I shall lead you back to the clearing and you can tell me of your teaching methods for pups Omen." She said, feeling more at ease around the male.
