| A long, lean female wolf shakes her thick, silvery winter coat out as a crisp breeze comes up from the south. Clumps of powdery snow delicately fall to the ground from her lustrous pelt and collect on the snow-covered ground beneath her. The fae blinks once, her vision momentarily obscured by the flying snowflakes and shed fur. Her luminescent, cerulean eyes open quickly again, tracking a quick, fat hare. It seems uncharacteristic for the animal to be out at the moment, but she isn’t picky about the intelligence of her prey. In fact, the dafter the better, it means a quick meal for her.
Skye bows down a bit, waiting for the best time to dash after her quarry. She doesn’t much enjoy the hunt, but it is a necessary evil when one is travelling as a lone wolf. At least she has the instincts for it. Her muscles tense, and she gets ready to sprint after the swift hare. Her leg muscles explode all at once, rocketing her towards her victim. The hare senses her presence a few seconds too late, and characteristically dashes towards its burrow, just as Skye knew it would if she waited until it was closer to its home. She easily catches up to the animal and fluidly plucks it from its snowy tracks without lessening her pace. She carries her small game between her powerful jaws as she sprints back towards her temporary den nearby.
As Skye trots along at an even pace, the brisk winter winds shift and begin to come down from the north, and suddenly she gets a whiff of a wolf pack. Skye skids to a stop and freezes, the hare still dangling from her mouth. Blood begins to drip on the pristine snow, melting a tiny garish hole in the landscape beneath her. Skye curses inwardly to herself, admonishing her own lack of observance that she was so close to claimed hunting grounds. Her mind races as she tries to decide what to do.
Skye sighs between clenched jaws, moving the hare’s fur from her breath that coalesces into a frosty cloud in the cold air. She decides that a face-to-face offering will be best to get her out of trouble with this pack. Last time this happened, she dropped the game and ran, but the rogue pack still chased after her for hours on end. Skye reluctantly trots toward this pack’s border, drops the bloody hare on the snow, lifts her head towards the sky and howls out a long eerie note. In her message she tries to convey that she is alone, means no harm, and simply wishes to talk to anyone from the pack.
Her stance stays neutral, her tail not pointed up but not between her legs either and her ears back but not against her head. Skye stands with her chest out as she stands up straight, showing her full size as a hugely tall but slim fae that is able to defend herself as necessary. She wished she could play the submissive role, maybe that would help her get accepted into a pack; but she cannot bring herself to do it, even if it means not getting out of trouble with this unknown pack. She stands alert, waiting for an answer to her call. |

| (The Alpha has given me permission to accept you since I offered to help while they are moving.)
Everything was a blur as Ember sprinted though the forest. Her small ears were pinned against her skull so the wind wouldn't damage them. When a howl rang out, she froze in her tracks and switched directions. The howl was close, and it only took her a matter of seconds to get within 10 feet of the lone female. Being completely silent, Ember analyzed her from afar with her snowy eyes. This fae was rather large, so Ember knew she had better try to make her stance as dominant as possible. Curling her long tail so it brushed her spine, Ember trotted towards the large fae. Stopping a few feet away, she stood tall and looked at the wolf before her. Ember hoped that the other wolf wouldn't try to pose a threat when she Ember's small frame.
Flicking her ears forward, Ember spoke. "Hello there, lone one. What brings you to the border of my pack?" Deciding not to sit, she remained standing. Sitting would make her look smaller, and she didn't want to look vulnerable in front of a newcomer. Ember was small, yes, but she could take down a bear withing minutes because of her speed. She watched the other female with slightly narrowed eyes as she waited for her to respond. The other wolf looked to be as if she had been hunting before Ember had gotten here, and she could smell blood on the other wolf. Lowering her head slightly, she remained in the dominant stance. "Have you been hunting on our lands, newcomer? If not I am sorry to make that assumption." |

| Skye’s ears tweaked a bit as the rapid footfalls of a wolf approached her. She sniffed the air once, noticing that it was a fae approaching. The analysis of the sound made her a bit uncomfortable; while Skye prided herself on being one of the fastest wolves she knew of, the fae seemed to be every bit as fast or possibly even faster than she. Skye resisted the urge to growl in annoyance at this realization, as the fae would see it as her being aggressive. Momentarily, Skye completely forgot everything except the fae’s speed; she really desired to challenge her to a race. But Skye was brought back to reality by Ember’s first question, ‘What brings you to the border of my pack?’ Skye stood there, her pose still neutral as she considered the question.
Just as she was about to respond, the fae asked her another question about whether she had been hunting on their lands. Skye wondered if the female was just messing with her or just particularly unobservant, considering the dead hare lay at her feet. Skye chose to believe that no one could be THAT unobservant, so obviously the fae was messing with her. Skye’s brilliant blue eyes stayed on the fae at all times, watching her eyes. Skye had a penchant for one-upping other wolves in matches of logic, and it had been so long since she had had the opportunity to do so. But she ultimately decided to quash her desires and just get out of trouble with this pack. This was no time for games. All of this was thought and thought against within a second.
Skye decided to go with the 100% truth, with some helpful advice mixed in. Considering her size, the unusually feminine voice is slightly surprising as she begins to speak calmly. ”Yes, my apologies fae, I have hunted NEAR your grounds, though not on them. This hare was most certainly caught outside your borders, I can show you his burrow if you please, and you will know I have spoken the truth when you see that his scent matches to that of his home. You could even follow the tracks to where I caught him, which is also outside of your borders.”
Skye paused. “However, being that as it may, I am willing to turn over this small game for the assurance that there be no trouble from your pack. I simply wish to take my leave and go find another kill farther away. I did not smell your pack near here until the winds shifted and brought your scent to me.” Though her tone was penitent, Skye was not sure that the offering would be enough. Even though her instincts screamed against the action, Skye momentarily bowed her head towards the offering. Skye silently clenched her teeth with discomfort during the action. It killed her to show even that small sign of submission.

| Listening to her words, Ember spoke in her accented voice. "That will not be necessary. The hare does not smell like the ones I've caught before. He smells of somewhere else. You offering to show me his burrow is enough to let me know that you aren't lying. If you had hunted on our lands, you would have avoided the subject completely. Turning over the game to my pack would be for no reason, but we will accept it anyway. You have nothing to apologize for since you hadn't crossed the border. I can smell that you are a loner. If you would like, I'm sure there is a place for you to belong here. But first, may I have your name? I am Warrior Ember." Ember kept her stance dominant as she assessed the fae. She had long legs for speed, like Ember herself. Though her taller frame would put more weight on her legs, making it harder on her paws if she were to jump over a large object. Ember herself had extremely long legs, but had a very small frame that allowed her to practically fly through the woods behind her.
Be as it may, Ember was a very observant wolf. Little did the other fae know that Ember had hone in on every detail. She noticed the other fae's neutral stance, but it didn't bother her very much. She kept her muscles tense, in case the other fae decided to attack. Ember's snowy eyes analyzed everything that was near to her, categorizing in to make sure everything was well with this part of their territory. Flicking her eyes back to the fae, Ember patiently waited for her response. |

| Skye lifted her head again, standing perfectly still as she listened to the fae’s words. She thought this wolf sounded particularly reasonable, and huffed an almost inaudible sigh of relief, for she wouldn’t be chased by this pack tonight, or at least she hoped not. Skye’s ears perked up in interest when the fae offered her a place in the pack. It seemed slightly odd of an offer, but Skye was getting tired of being a loner…
Then the fae said her name was Ember. Skye felt like a knife sliced straight through her chest upon hearing the name. Skye’s open mouth suddenly went dry. She closed her eyes and tilted her head slightly to the right, trying to get rid of the physical pain that manifested from the emotional. How odd it was, that something as simple as a name could cause such a reaction.
Skye swallowed once, trying to produce enough saliva to be able to speak. Hadn’t the fae asked her a question a few seconds ago? Oh… her name. Softly, Skye replies simply, “Sky Runner.” She shakes her head once, trying to clear her mind, then opens her eyes. “N-no… I’m sorry. I-I need to go.” Skye turns from where she is standing in the snow and begins to sprint away from the border, leaving the bloody hare on the ground in front of Ember.

| Ember heard the fae whisper her name. It was Skye Runner. She tilted her head when the fae looked like she was horrified of her, and it made Ember confused. "I am sorry, Skye. Why do you seem afraid of me? I was named after the embers of the fire I was born next to." It seemed like Skye was going through some inner turmoil, and Ember wanted to help, but she got the feeling she was the cause.
When Skye sprinted away, Ember called out. "We can welcome you safety from whatever you are running from. You could come back and wait until the Alpha was ready to see you. You wouldn't have to see me again if that is what you wish." Ember had no idea why the other fae was so scared of her, but she knew it had to do with her past. Sitting at the border quietly, Ember waited to see if the fae would come back. If not, Ember would leave and hope for the best to the fae. |

| Skye continued to run, sprinting at top speed away from the border, her paws carelessly flinging snow as she did so. She heard what Warrior Ember was saying, but she didn’t stop running. She hadn’t even been looking for a pack this morning, she was only trying to stay out of trouble. She slowed her pace a bit, now that she was in the trees. Skye sighed. Of all the wolves in the pack, of course the one to come to her was named Ember. She had actually been foolishly considering thinking about joining their pack for a moment. She didn’t really need a pack, she was self sufficient, didn’t have to answer to anyone, and didn’t have to worry about traitors.
Skye finally sat down amongst the trees when she knew she was out of sight of the wolf. So, why then had she been considering joining for a moment? Skye thought as she sat on the cold, snowy forest floor. Her thoughts led her somewhere she would never admit to anyone. She pushed the errant thought away. No, she wouldn’t even admit the reason to herself. But now that she was thinking more clearly, it didn’t really matter what the fae’s name was, she had no resemblance to Skye’s brother, they weren’t even the same gender. It had been an impulse to run from the name.
Skye looked over her shoulder, but couldn’t see the fae anymore since the trees were blocking her vision. She wondered if the fae was still there. Skye sighed, stood up, shook her coat out and slowly started walking back towards the border. She emerged from the trees and stopped abruptly as she saw Warrior Ember there, waiting. But after a second she continued on, still walking towards the fae, taking about 20 times longer to get back than she had taken to run away.

| When Ember saw the fae reemerge, she let out a sigh of relief. She didn't want the other fae to be scared of her. As Skye slowly walked over to her, Ember tilted her head in curiosity. When the fae was at least three feet away, Ember spoke. "Are you okay Skye? If you do not wish to join this pack I understand, but we could offer you more sanctuary than the wilderness can."
Ember had to admit, the other fae was very fast. She would like to see who would win if they raced. Analyzing her once more, Ember found any disadvantages to the fae if they were to race. Being the small fae that she was, Ember still had to look dominant over Skye. It was sort of comical, the way Ember had to fluff out and stand up as tall as she could. Skye had a good three inches on here, but Ember was a stubborn little thing.
Deciding to take another tactic, Ember thought that maybe the other fae would relax if she got her to laugh. Tilting her head both ways, Ember then locked eyes with the other fae and smiled. Her tail curled to brush her spine as she kept tilting her head this way and that. This was something she did that made any wolf laugh, serious or not. She figured that is she were more playful towards the other fae, maybe she could earn another new friend. |

| Skye merely nodded her head to the fae’s question to her as snow begins to fall softly on and around the two faes. Small clumps of snowflakes gather on Skye’s silvery fur and on her face. She continues standing semi-dominantly, but doesn’t even seem to be aware that she is doing it anymore, it looks like it is just the natural way she carries herself. Skye blinks at Ember as she stares at her and tilts her head back and forth. She looks a bit confused and says, “Um… What are you doing...” but she cracks a small smile. “You look a little strange...” Skye waits patiently on the border line, not wanting to trespass into their lines until told it is okay to do so. |

| Ember let out a small laugh, happy that the other fae had smiled at her behavior. "I know, and that was the point. You may come across our border, for you have interest in joining us. If it is ok with you, you will be a fellow warrior to protect and provide for this pack." This time, she didn't tilt her head all silly, and instead stood to bow her head to Skye. She wondered if there would be a potential friend in Skye, but she guessed she would find out. The sky was losing its blue light, so she knew it would be time to return to her den in the clearing soon. |

| Skye looked upward towards the sky as the snow begins falling a bit heavier and lands in dry, powdery clumps on the already snowy ground. She merely nodded her head when Ember said she would be a fellow warrior. She then turned her gaze to the fae as she says, “Is there anything I am required to do tonight for the pack? Or should I prepare a place to sleep….” She looks at the frozen ground, and frowns a bit. “Though the ground might be too hard to dig one out.” She looks hopefully at the fae and says, “Or do you all have extra places prepared? If not I guess I could just go back to my temporary den outside of the borders for the night…” She shakes her fur out a bit so that the snow does not melt into her coat while she waits for the answer. |

| Ember looks at the fae with her snowy eyes, thinking over what to say. "There isn't much left to do at this time. Our food stock is rather full, so you may do as you wish. Yes, the ground would be too hard to dig out, but there are some thick bushes that surround our camp. If you make a den under them, they ground will most likely be easier to dig out. I have made my den in those bushes, and it is quite cozy and warm. I'm going there to take my earned rest before starting patrols in the morning." The fur on Ember's back spiked up, trying to get the snow away from her flesh. Shaking out her light coat, she watched her now fellow warrior. |

| Skye bristles up her silvery fur to keep her warm. She smiles at Ember and nods. “I will make my den near yours then, if that is alright with you.” Skye yawns widely, and you can see her perfectly sharp ivory teeth as she does so. Her ears point a bit back and towards the middle of the top of her head, and the points almost touch together as she yawns. She looks a little embarrassed. “Sorry, I’ve been running all day since dawn.” She starts walking into the pack grounds and says, “Please show me the way to my new home, fellow warrior.” |

| "That is perfectly fine with me, Skye. My den would be the one with the smallest entrance, for it accommodates my size. I do hope we get to know each other better." At Skye's smile, Ember gave one of her own. When Skye yawned, Ember realized how tired the fae must be. "It is fine. I too have been mainly running all day, but my energy seems to never end." Walking briskly, she leads the new warrior to her home.
occ- if you would like, you can make an rp in the camp clearing of you making your den |
