| Autumn had arrived, carpeting the pack clearing with shades of red, orange and yellow. It was a most beautiful season. And to think, it had been almost a year since her arrival on the borders. She felt she should celebrate the event somehow. Perhaps return to the little alcove on the cliffs. Or to the special meadow her first ever friend had shared with her. Or to the maple groves where her new life began. The same place where she accepted her first traveller. At times she did miss her family. Her two younger brothers and her parents. The other pack members whom had educated her in the short time she had spent there. Although if they saw her now she wondered if they might recognise her. She would have been preparing to step up as Alphess. Her mother would have insisted she find a mate and have pups by the end of spring. Her father would have told her she didn't need to listen to her mother. She smiled at the thought.
There were others too. Their Elite, Koda. When she saw Helidos' old Elite Kenai she was reminded of him. Koda took on a lot of her training as a warrior and he was good to her. Or their Caretaker Mona; a sweet old thing who just loved to care for the pups. She refused to pass into the rank of Elder and swore to work until the day she died. But that life was lost to her. It was far too difficult to return to their lands in the north. Where it snowed nine months of the year. The mountain pass was the only way in. Some might have called it dangerous, but they lived well in their Lands. Instead she focused on the present.
Nnlya thought of each person she had met in the past year. Marrok who accepted her. Fel, whom she had had a rocky start but had become at the very least civil acquaintances. Eclipse, her adoptive brother and closest friend. Ace, her hunting partner. Drogo, her first love ripped from here she had not heard from him since the accident. It pained her to be so in the dark. There were Yiska and Altair, the first two she helped train. Aurora, Crystal and Shadow. She hadn't known Aurora well, but her Exile had saddened her. The pups: Lucas, Ryland, Apollo and Maia. So many had entered her life and made their mark.
But then came the first whose life she really felt she had entered and altered. Jackle. He was her first border acceptance. A sweet gentlewolf. Honourable. Kind. She had made him a healer and she couldn't imagine his soft personality being suited to any other position. She couldn't imagine his fangs bared in lethal disgust. Nor his hackles raised in anger. There was no way she could imagine him hunting for sport. His pure white fire could never be tainted. He had this innocence about him, though he was a grown brute. She thought about the male, wanted to see how he was settling. It felt only right. And so she travelled to the Healers den in search of the white knight. Her nose lowered to the ground in search of his gentle scent. She called for him with a soft voice, "Jackle? Are you there?" |

| The male awoke with a yawn to the sound of a familiar voice, one unforgettable and still as sweet from the first time he heard it. Jackle smiled as he stretched his forelegs and propped himself up, taking a brief moment he glanced around the den for Creek but she was gone, and his heart dropped but pushed the worry aside. The lead healer was not doing well and was standing on her last leg, it pained Jackle deeply to see a wonderful creature in such pain but she never cried or whined about it. Proving that strength does not only come in the form of a brute. Jackle always thought that females were stronger than men, psychologically at least, but there were fae's out there that could take down even the baddest of wolves. Forcing them to his den. Collecting his thoughts he sharply answered the Delta, "Oui, Nnyla, be right with you." The deep voice barreled it's way through the den as he quickly followed suit. As he approached the scene, his large body stood tall and proud in the den, but his humble face looked her dead on. Beady eyes squinted in the bright light as he adjusted from his nap and exited the cave. Ears turned outwards and back as he sat down before her.
"Is everything all right? Do you seek medical attention?" The thick accent made some words sound off, but the point was still there. Silently he adjusted his weight as he awaited a response from the Delta. As he looked over her, there was impending danger to her health, so he just assumed she wanted to talk. It felt nice knowing that there was someone in the camp that cared about him, as he did about her. Not so much in a romantic way, even though he thought she was stunning, Jackle was never the one to push a female into a relationship, other than friends. Work always came first for him, the life of the pack was his only sport, his only job. To care for their well being, but if that included a conversation now and then for the well being of someone's mental health, that was what he loved the best about his job. The hot sun beared down on his back and his jaws parted so he could release his tongue to pant. Bright pink gums were barely seen and his slightly yellowed teeth were hidden behind his lips. |

| A voice answered her call with his thick accent. It made her smile. The two came from such opposing ends of the lands. Eerily enough their fur colours were swapped. He held the typical snowy pelt of the north whilst she held the charcoal, coffee and cream that might be found further south. It was strange and amusing all at once, only a tidbit of thought, but one that interested her to some degree. But she was expecting him to emerge at any moment. The fae straightened her posture and allowed a sweet smile to grace her features. It was not long before the knight followed his voice through the entrance of the den. His body was tall and proud, standing the same height, if not slightly taller than her. The far more heavyset body was quite well built for a fighter, begging the question of how his pack hadn't requested he train as a fighter. Had he been born a runt? Was he uncoordinated? No, healers paws were delicate and nimble. It puzzled her. Though perhaps she might learn the answers to these questions in good time.
He immediately inquired as to her health, the sign of a good healer. Her eyes instantly shot to the ground as her head shook, still beaming. The watery orbs returned to his fiery ones. For a moment it reminded her of the first time she truly looked into Drogo's eyes. All she had seen there was strength and firm determination. They were hard but warm, like a wall of fire held back only by his corneas. They captivated her. With Jackle it was different. His eyes were softer, like molten lava, constantly shifting and glowing. They were warmer and more inviting, gentle and caring. She made her eyes travel away from his and look at his muzzle instead then back to break her intense focus. She cleared her throat. "No, no. I'm fine. I just thought I'd come see how you've been settling in. and maybe if you'd like to join me for a walk?" Nnlya enjoyed making new friends wherever they might be found. Jackle felt like someone she could be close to and confide in. He was easygoing and level headed. He didn't seem overly protective like Drogo, or brotherly like Eclipse. Not that she minded either, but she needed a happy medium. Someone who would just listen sometimes. Maybe give the occasional snippet of advice. But never judge. But would he judge? She had not had the guts to tell Eclipse. Drogo had angered quickly, but also sworn to protect her. Then he had left. What of this one? |

| At the sound of her response, Jackle could not help but smile and lightly sway his tail from side to side to react to her statement. Above all, she longed to know how he was settling in. It was a bright gesture and he was honored to know that others within this pack care about one another, genuinely. Everywhere he had ever gone, not one pack had someone like her, she was different and it puzzled him. Never knowing where he would end up next, Jackle knew that he would never leave Helidos, not while Creek was sick and not while Nnyla was alive and well. Besides work, Jackle never found time for friends, and for the first time since being a pup he found one. Closing his eyes, he nodded his head at Nnlya and shook his pelt free from debris. Quietly he began to glance her over, noticing that she had gazed a bit too long into his eyes and was a bit embarrassed from the lingering. However, like the gentleman he was, he would not bring it up or even recognize it. With a soft reply Jackle spoke, "I have come to love the land, the few wolves I have met, and of course the general comradere that Helidos offers. Thank you Nnyla for checking up on me, it means the world that other's care. It has been far too long since I have found other's much like myself. I would love to accompany you on a walk Madam."
As he stood next to her, he was nearly level with her, but he was just a tad bit taller than her. It was an adorable sight, the two next to one another, much like ying and yang in each others company. Jackle's long legs and large paws began to walk along side the females awaiting her to lead to a destination. Although he was a bit more stocky and brute like, he was still lean in his figure, with lanky legs and a lot of fur. Being from the south, he was a rare find bearing all the traits of a northern wolf. The thought dragged him to why he was here and figured it might be fate. The laughter in his head distracted him briefly as he thought about how funny fate could be, how she wove her way into the lives of everyone, never knowing when her own paths would cross. Thankful for the time with Nnyla and the time away from the healers den, he would have moment to breath from the pain of taking care of Creek, he was about to lose a friend that he had barely begun to know and it killed him, but this was the job and it was not an easy one. |

| He stood easily and waited her accompaniment, which she took in stride. One graceful movement saw her rise, turn and pad off into the trees, nudging the male with her hips as she passed. Her steps were quick and light, the product of her years of training as a warrior. Each step was distinct from the next, yet her limbs moved together perfectly. "Of course I care. Why wouldn't I?" The question was friendly and rhetorical. The male would of course follow quickly, she trusted in that. And gentle and careful as he was, he couldn't hide everything. She sensed unease in the male. Something was bothering him that he hadn't mentioned. It was serious enough that his careful healers facade had slipped. Ah, the healers facade, she thought, the artistry of a calm demeanour in the face of overwhelming adversity. The ability to tell a sick person the worst news and still maintain a positive aura. To be emotionless whilst treating the most horrific injuries. They were truly heroes.
Every role played in the pack was important, but the importance of some were often overlooked. Even Nnlya was guilty of this. Sometimes it was easy to forget just how important Healers, Caretakers and even Omega's were. Apprentices were the future. Healers the light in the dark. Caretakers the one who educated. Hunters who worked to the bone to feed the whole family. Warriors who trained and fought every day to ensure the safety of them all. Some were obvious and some took a little thought. It was little moments that could spark these thoughts. But, more often than not, it would take something major for people to realise their importance. Some even lived their entire lives without ever being fully appreciated for their work. It was only in their death that wolves could come to express just how much they meant to the pack.
She turned to the brute, attempting to keep the sadness and pity from her eyes. "Jackle, is there something bothering you? You don't seem entirely yourself. Is it something you wish to discuss? I would understand if you did not, we all have our burdens to bear that are purely our own." She watched him as they walked. Nnlya knew all too well about burdens. Indeed she had her share and very few had been graced with their details. Fewer still knew the entire story. It was understandable if he chose to brush aside her question, some things one did not disclose. On her own occasions, disclosure had been careful and discreet. First, to her border accepter, he required knowledge of her past - or as much as she chose to tell. Second was to her closest friend, he asked and she answered. Third was to her missing beloved. He knew it all and he had left. Strong as she was it hurt her that he was gone. It made her afraid to be so open with anyone again. But a fighter would never cry, she would never allow anyone to see it. Not even this gentle soul beside her. |

| As they walked, Jackle felt at complete ease next to her, and it was indeed a strange feeling. Unused to the counterpart of a female at his side, other than Creek or his own mother. It wasn't so that he had never had feelings for a female but he was never one to act on such sensations. Work always came first, then love, and then a family to provide for. It was just he enjoyed his work too much to ever consider a relationship until he met her. Not knowing of who she was inside or what she was like a being, Jackle just longed for the company especially since there was the recent findings of Creek. It bothered him but not to the point where he assumed it could be read upon his brow and when Nnyla asked him, he knew he had expressed too much. Blaming it on the enjoyment of her company and the total ease, Jackle paused in his step for a moment to consider his options of the news. Was it his place to tell her? She was the Delta of Helidos? Shouldn't Creek be the one to spread the news? Could he trust her with his heavy heart? Jackle briefly gazed upon her soul which emanated from her pores and he sighed heavily.
"I did not know that my brow expressed such troublesome looks but indeed my heart is weary, Miss. I stand here with bearing news that weighs down upon me and I feel it is not my place to discuss it. However, the other side tells me that I am to tell you due to your rank within the pack. It is a battle not so easily won." The male then continued to walk his steps bringing him closer to her side. Gently his fur bristled next to her's as he continued speaking. "Even in my darkest hour life could not compare to the suffering of others. It is not a need for me to seek out the attention of others and have them entrust me with this very breath of life, but more so a want and even in that want there will be times like the one I am facing that will come with tougher decisions than the minuscule one I am about to make. My thought's lie in between and I settle upon discussing it with you, not because of your rank but of your friendship. Loyalty goes a long way and trust follows suit." The male took a moment to breath as they began to descend down hill, his eyes focused on the ground before him as he made his way over the rocks and through the wood.
"Recently two things have come to my attention. The first being of bad news for our Lead Healer, Creek has been diagnosed with an incurable disease. I leave it up to her to discuss any details for that is not my place, but as a Helidos Healer and with you being my Delta, I simply answer your question. It's bothersome because I am so recent her and besides you Miss Nnyla, Creek was only other friend." Pause. "The second being that I begun to feel a connection with you that is not so easily describable, it is a companionship that I have longed for and a friendship that has been so desperately needed. I await our adventures in life together and the bond that will come of this kindling. It is indeed an honor to serve beside you, for one is never beneath another." A smile creased his muzzle and he stared forward. Indeed, Jackle was a simple wolf, and an honest one at that. |

| Their fur mingled as they walked. Amicable silence passed between them for just moments before his gentle voice rose up once more. The worry and upset clear in his voice. Oh what could it be that bother him so? But it was not long to wait before the truth was revealed. His words came soft and pained from creamy lips. They paused their conversation for a few moments and they descended decline. Pieces of rock and shale went sliding from beneath her, racing downhill, tumbling until their momentum was lost. At the base came a vast disarray of boulders and rocks. A childish part of her wished to leap upon the lofty heights of solid boulders and travel across their surfaces. But the logical part restrained her and reminded her she was in the company of another. Her attention returned to his speech. His troubles buried far deeper than what she had imagined. He seemed to be settling in well that she could tell. Well enough that he was privy to some of the harshest information a healer could know.
The news of sweet Creek was indeed shocking. Enough to make her gasp. Her first thought was of pity to the poor Healer. But chasing after this was the thought of those she would leave behind. Her loving mate, Eclipse, and her dear children. The Delta would not seek out the white female, it would be rude to assume that she had any right to this information. She understood Jackles choice to tell her, as his superior, but she almost wished he hadn't. Nonetheless, motherly instinct resolved her to take upon the children as her own. They were already her niece and nephew in thought. She would take it upon herself to ensure their safety and happiness. And poor Eclipse would need her more than ever. To have lost the one he loves. She could only hope he would not embrace a darker part of himself that she knew lurked beneath the surface.
But yet another thought slipped its way into her mind. How was Jackle dealing with all of this? There was no time for her question to be asked, for the medic introduced a new topic for their discussion. It was true she felt an intense friendship growing between them. Perhaps they should explore this relationship further and become greater friends. Should she vocalise her feelings? She was not one to lie. She stepped forward to where he had stopped and stared ahead. Tossing her great wolfs head over his shoulders she gave him an approximation of a hug. Back up a few steps to look in his dark eyes before speech broke the silence. "Oh, Jackle, if only there were something I could do to help." She took a breath before saying one small thing. "I feel we would make good friends Jackle. You have a softness that is hard to come by these days. |

| It was all too sudden, the way she had gently laid her head upon his shoulders, it rendered him speechless. Still, he naturally leaned his chin upon the top of her head. Lightly flattening one of her ears beneath the pressure before pulling away at her words. Jackle was honored to have the Delta in his life and knew that in time many would come to him an he would be willing to serve. There was a new Alphess now, Quinn, someone he would have to get to know in order to best serve her pack. The now Elder, Azul, to get a better view from his eyes. And, Creek's mate, Eclipse that he has heard about from the tender lips of the ill female. The last being Athena, who as an apprentice now would become a healer soon, with himself being her new mentor. There were many that flooded his mind as he stayed beside the Delta.
Still, Jackle contained to keep Nnyla company. Despite her 'friend-zone' comment, Jackle agreed with her statement and smiled. Although, deep inside himself he pained with emotion that had seldome ever come his way. The feeling of being turned down, regardless of the contexts was still a blow to ones ego. Never wantin to pressure her, Jackle nuzzled her again. This time a bit more tenderly and a bit more romantically, but not overstepping his boundary. Quickly, but not forcibly he pulled away and stammered that they should continue on. "Please, Nnyla, do tell me about yourself?" Jackle began to walk on, awaiting her response. |

| The Delta was kind, perceptive and many other things besides. But in matters of the heart she was as ever naive. There was no spotting his disheartened withdrawal, nor the true affection behind his nuzzle. She was the friendly, affectionate sort and a hug here, a nuzzle there was all too natural to her. It was not a common occurrence for a male to chase after the Delta. At least in a sense that they would be mates as equals. Brought together in love not... other things. And almost ironically, the Healer wished to know of her. To know about her. The question was a simple one with so many layers behind it. Who was she? What brought her here? Why does she act the way she does? How many facets are there to her personality? What are those facets? Does she have a dark side? What makes her tick?
So many questions layered behind one so simple. But she would not burden him with the troubles of her past. She could only look to the future now. Her lungs would expand as she sucked in a breath, exhaling before following his gait. "There is not much to tell I'm afraid," she lied through her jaws. "I am as you see me. A pup born to an Alpha and his Alphess, whose life's journey lead her to these wonderful lands of Helidos where a new life was offered me." She kept the explanation as short and concise as she could, not wanting to make the mistake with Jackle that she had with Drogo. She had not considered him to be a potential mate. He was soft and kind. Raised to be Alphess as she was, she was predisposed to choosing a strong mate who was able to protect her pups. More likely than not someone of the Warrior ranking. Or, if she felt so inclined, a hunter. |

| The healer knew, some how deep inside that she was trying to hide from him. Questions reeled through his mind on why should try to protect herself from someone like him. Although he was honest, the words spoken to him in privacy would always be kept between him and said wolf. Eyes watched as she grew uncomfortable in his question. Telling a variation of the truth. Still, Jackle would not pressure her into revealing her past, not now, but eventually he hoped that she would give him the benefit of the doubt and speak to him not as a healer and a delta, but as friends that seemed long over due. Regardless of anything, Jackle found his best interests with the pack, but found a deep interest in her.
It was strange, as he thought it over. Eventually finding the right words before the situation grew awkward. "Listen, I shall never pressure you into doing something you wish to not do. I shall never pressure you into telling me thing you wish to hold back. I can see it on your brow that you are indeed going your past from me, but that is not my concern. I only wish to know you, all of you, to better serve you as a healer and to enter serve you as the friend I know you long to have. I'm not going anywhere Nnyla, I can promise you that." The stalky male continued to walk on, slowly making their way around and back to the healers den. Eyes keeping track of the herbs they passed, knowing that when his company would leave, he would forage. |

| The world around her reeled as memories assaulted her. "What of your past Nnlya. What brought you to the wondrous lands of Helidos?" When he asked for her own story she froze. Her hackles raised, muzzle twitched and limbs stiffened. "If the lady wishes not to speak of it by all means, pardon my intrusion." So long ago back when Nnlya was a Warrior. But no, she had made that mistake with Drogo. She had told too much too soon. She still wasn't sure what made her trust him. All she knew was that perhaps it was misplaced. After the accident he disappeared. She was afraid it was because of what she had said. Or perhaps he had found this fae he had loved and they had run off together. It broke her sweet little heart to think like that, but it was always a possibility. He never did tell her who she was.
No, she had made an error in judgement with him. She broke her rule once. Now it must be reinstated. No other shall know just how dark things had become at that point. Only her mate. He had the right to know she was sullied. But no other. But she felt awful for rejecting Jackle so easily. Maybe... just maybe, she could tell the other half of her story. She smirked. It was almost amusing that admitting to being the reason for her brothers death was far easier than admitting to being raped. She stepped forwards to continue the walk. "Jackle, I do trust you. But there are some things I must keep to myself, for my own reasons. If you truly wish to know more about me then ask the questions to the answers you seek. I will answer all that I can, no more, no less." Pause. "To start you off I'll have you know that I was the reason behind my own brothers death."
Nnlya was tired. Tired of telling her story in perfect detail - though it had only been thrice before. She preferred to only tell what was necessary. Provoke question and thought. Rather than just a one sided story-telling where her single audience member merely sat and soaked in the information. |

| "I will never force you tell me things you wish to hold secret too. I fear, my personal life is far the same the as yours. Better left unsaid. I am not longing to hear of your past Nnyla, I am longin to hear who you are. The past is better left in the past, what only matters is from where things go from here. Years I have been in this line of work, years I have watched wolves lie to me to protect themselves, but I will tell you that if don't let go of the things bearing weight on your shoulders, you will fall. I'd hate to see such a lovely creature as yourself succumb to the pain of the past. I do not wish to hear about the past. I wish to hear to hear about you. They are entirely, two separate things. When the time is right, you will open your heart. That, I will place a bet upon." Jackle smiled as they made way back to the Healers den. A pace slow and easy as he felt the joy of her company.
The male kept close by her side, head held high alongside hers as they walked. Never trying to be above her but only hold proper posture. Thinking about his own past, there was nothing eventful, many had come and gone throughout his life. And, many more would soon follow but Nnyla was different. There was something about her that he longed to make better, a pain that could not be healed homeopathic ally. Jackle turned to look at her, every feature upon her body was striking and beautiful, and he felt the urge to lick her cheek but felt that was far too formal for their friendship. Instead, he rested his head upon her shoulder and nuzzled the back of her neck. |

| Nnlya nodded. "That is true, my past and who I am are two separate things. But my past is large part of what made me who I am. The things I've seen and experienced... If it weren't for them I might be a very different wolf today. In fact, I might not even be here today. It is quite likely that had I made different choices I could have died at least three different ways. Or I might be standing in the Erenyx lands at this very moment. Having this conversation with Irrationality or Cassiopeia or Tye." They continued to walk side by side as she considered how she might improve the quality of the conversation. She should at least answer his question.
"To answer you question. I am as you see me. Nnlya, Delta of this pack of Helidos. I take my work here seriously. I train every day and work hard to earn my keep - although I could do with a little more hunting practice. And someday I hope to find a strong brute to love me and have his pups." Perhaps the last part was a little too open and honest, but what harm was there in telling a friend that she hoped to find a strong male and have children? He wished to know about her and so he shall. She considered the things she might learn about him. She didn't think there was a dark past hidden under that white fur. But maybe there was a secret hidden away in there. |

| In time, Jackle knew that he would break her silence. It was a trait he had, getting wolves to open up to him over time, still he and the Delta had only known each other for a short time and pressuring her to speak of thing she wished not too was not his fortay. Still, Jackle smiled as he rested his head over her shoulders before standing upright again to listen to her words carefully. The way she spoke of finding a brute, it meant that she longed to have someone protect her, and in her line of duty that either meant a higher rank or surely a stringer wolf. Now, Jackle wan't small, nor was he weak. And, defending himself or someone else was easy enough, but a fighter he was not. Underneath it all, Jackle was a kind and honest male, open to anything anyone would ever ask of him. There were no words at this time, none that he could really think of but his mind drew back to Creek and his work. They had been gone for a while and his hesitated leaving the Delta, instead he began to draw back towards the den of his work. Making his way round the camp with the Delta before finding their way along.
As they drew close, Jackle finally spoke, "Nnyla, I do hope that you find what you're looking for. Someone as pretty as you, shouldn't have to hide behind sorrow and pain. Someone like you should be able to stand forth and demand what she wants from someone, and expect that the other follows suit. A rank such as yours is a price paid for your past and a welcome mat for your future. Do not get lost in your duties, for you mind will not hesitate to scream from within. Take a moment to breath, think about what you truely want in life, and follow the pursuit of happiness. Indeed, you couldn't be more right, your past is what it has made you today, but your past does't dictate who you are, deep inside that never changes. It's the world that bears down on you and changes you, but it's you who bends one's will to the world. Stop holding it's weight on your shoulders and let go, or I see you going to the grave far earlier than you should. Nnyla, I am not trying to be mean, so please do not take my words the wrong way, but any 'brute' smart enough would lay at feet for a worthy chance of being your mate. The other's whom you hide from being a part of future, they only took a piece of what heart remains, but a heart that is broken reflects light from within and forms a beautiful picture. That is that heart I wish to have, one that is broken, so that I may piece the puzzle back together, so that my own blood and sweat may be the bond that glues it back together."
The male stepped away from her and towards the opening of his home, the sweet smell of mixtures of flowers was around him. At times it was sickening but one grew accustomed to the various scents and his smiled to the Delta, leaving her with his wise words. "I do apologize Nnyla, but work does call for me, and I am sure for you as well. Good day." The final sentence was kind and genuine after he had spoke of healing her broken heart in a way that no other could. Leaving her to think about what he had say. Lingering there for a moment, he waited to hear a response, and if none he would dip inside his den for the afternoon to make a mental list of what was needed to be replenished and what was completely out of stock. |
