| Dusk settled around the land, peaceful as each wolf in the pack clearing was now saying their goodbyes for the evening, and settling down for a long nights rest. Stars began to appear throughout the sky, forming tiny landmarks above before it would be covered in millions of burning balls of gas, and there as the white male stood in the clearing he noticed a single one shoot across the sky. Hundred of tree's now surrounded him the further and further he dipped into the woods. Knowing that he should be careful to not travel far, but hunger pained at his stomach. It was time for the hunger to cease, hoping that he would be able to catch something small. Silently, he turned his head from left to right, gearing up for the hunt and listening to make sure there was no one else in the forest. At least from where he stood, there was no one around. The healer smiled, alone at last. There was no one here to bother him, no one coming by his place of work, and no one preventing him from doing the things he liked. Although he joined Helidos looking for a new home, the amount of members here were at times overwhelming, but he sufficed and would do the best he could to remember all their names and faces. Providing the best of care to each individual. Out here in the silence all Jackle could do was stand there, each white ear turning in opposite directions listening to the sounds around it.
Finding it more peaceful to just stay where he was, the male found himself lying down int he soft autumn dirt. A slight breeze, cool and crisp, coated over his pelt sending a single shiver vibrating through his body. With a shake of his head and furry mane, the hair tossed and turned and he laid his head upon his paws. The hunger was ceasing and the sounds of forest provided a lullaby that he had not heard in a long time. Since being in the pack, he had not had time to just be the male he wished to be. And, although he laid there quiet and still, his mind raced over the past few weeks time of being in Helidos. There were a few major events that still bothered him and could not erase from his mind. The first being Creek, the beautiful and kind female was no longer around and in his honest opinion he was not sure if she was hiding out somewhere until the cancer took her, or if she had briefly ended her life a while back. Either way, she was gone from his life, leaving behind the scent that had begun to fade in the healers den because his own masculine scent had covered it. Creek left behind young wolves of her own blood and a mate that Jackle realized he should come to know, that even in death there would be new life. A smile creased his muzzle as he closed his eyes and let out a silent prayer for the deceased female.
The second was the new Alphess, they had talked once briefly at his place of work, and found that a friendship was slowly forming between them. It gave the male purpose in life that he had found a pack that was once ruled by a great male and now followed suit by an even greater female, Quinn. Jackle felt honored in her presence to be of service to her and her pack. That the years of knowledge and practice in his trade would finally become of great use here. Although, Jackle was thankful that no one needed his services of yet. The Alphess seemed like a strong leader and he hoped that in time, he would be able to be a full healer under her ranks, and hoped for nothing more than the safety and best health of each individual here in the pack. Jackle admired such honesty and kindness in a leader. Knowing that should anything ever happen to her, he would be the one to heal her. Jackle also longed for other healers to come forth, for it was lonely in the den alone at nights. No one there but himself and sometimes the young apprentice Athena, but she was off being young and mourning the loss of Creek as well. Either way, it was stinging pain that wish would leave his veins.
The last of the constant thoughts was of the female who seemed to be stealing his heart. Which all together was a feat not so easily done. Never in all his years had he met someone quite like her. The constant need to be around her was tiring but it made him lovesick with envy to just be in her grace. Still, Nnyla was a rare find for him and he longed to be with her. However, the male was stuck in the friend-zone and he needed to prove to her that he was indeed the male she was looking for. Not wanting to be mates right off the bat, Jackle just longed to take her out a date, show her that he could be all that she wished for. This reminded Jackle that since they last saw one another she was a Delta and was recently promoted to Elite. This could be his only chance to get near her once more before her duties swarmed her and others would take her attention. Jackle had seen many males come and go in the pack clearing, some far more stronger than he, and faster too but none had the knowledge of the land like he did. Gloating, it was never nice and the male shook his thoughts. Nnyla had told him of her heart, how blocked her own mind was, and how she needed a male who could provide to her and her future family. Being a healer shouldn't prevent him from finding love, being an Elite should prevent her from loving a lower rank, and Jackle knew that she wasn't stuck up that way.
Upon the wind, Jackle could smell two things, the blood coursing through the veins of a young deer, and the female he was thinking about. Forcing himself up, Jackle was reminded that he had asked the former delta if she cared to join him on a hunt. It seemed as if the gods above were allowing a fate he desired. Tilting his head back, Jackle howled for the newest Elite. The deer now spooked had traveled a bit further into the woods scared to death of death by the lone wolf. Jackle cursed himself out for forcing the deer further into the woods, but Nnyla would always take precedent over his lingering hunger. As he stood there he waited to see her face, her gait, and to hear her beautiful voice. The calming presence of the female always suited his natural calming ways and for the first time in a long time, his tail wagged like a pup in excitement of seeing the one female he knew he would die trying to get. Jackle's tongue lolled out of the corner of his mouth, panting from the autumn heat, and he wished for the breeze to come back. Once again, the ears listened for the female to come to the cry of his voice, but in the distance he could hear the sounds of water trickling along a bank. If she came and they failed in their hunt, at least he could take her on a date. In his eyes it would be a date, but what about her? |

| The Elite lay crouched in the undergrowth. It had taken hours. Day had turned to evening now verging on night. But finally, finally she had managed to separate this doe from the herd. From the fringes of the grazing plains and into the depths of the trees. Where the wolves held the upper hand. From her position she could see without being seen. She looked up, her gaze drifting ever higher into the canopy. She wondered if wolves could learn to climb trees. It would certainly be useful in a hunt. The ability to chase the prey into a pre-determined area and have other hunters simply drop onto the larger beasts. Bringing Elk or Moose down would be far easier - with practice of course. It would certainly be good in the event of a necessary escape, or flood. The possibilities went on for miles. But still she watched and waited. Hunting was a game of patience, something this fae had always lacked. But it was always a good way to help slow things down, calm the mind and take a breather.
Through the undergrowth she crept onward. Silent as the stars above. Watching. Waiting. The doe stretched out her neck to nibble some leaves just almost out of reach. But a howl pierced the air. A howl she knew but couldn't quite put her paw on. Probably someone she had met at the border before. She shook her head and watched angrily as the doe spooked and ran. She snarled angrily, letting off a truly awful curse at the loss of all that hard work and gave chase. She bolted from her hiding spot trying to catch up in a very futile attempt. The sweet, kind, but hardly innocent she-wolf swore again, cursing the idiot who scared her prey. "What bloody idiot does that?" She muttered. Scenting the air she couldn't find a definitive scent of another wolf. This lead her to believe that the wolf was behind her. From this it could be deduced that the wolf in question knew there was a deer in the vicinity and probably could smell her as well. Would it not be clear that the wolf he or she could smell was hunting the deer? Clearly not. She paced back and forth, mumbling and grumbling to herself. She had wanted just one good kill to return to the pack. She felt like she hadn't been contributing anywhere near enough. And now her way of trying to make up for it had been stolen. She continued to pace, trying to calm down before trying to go after the doe again. |

| Moments, it too the male moments to place his nose to the ground and begin his search for the female, and as he wandered he eventually found her. A nose such as a healers not only was in good place for his duties for the pack, but for hunting as well. And, a prize such as a doe was far better than any vermin that crept across the forest floor. Still, as Jackle slowly came upon the Elite, his eyes began to notice her annoyance for this stupid mistake and without thinking the male lowered his head and spoke, "Mwen regret sa." It mean that he was sorry and although he knew she didn't know creole, she would soon understand. Without hesitation, Jackle was off again leaving the Elite behind him, he soon would make this right. Within twenty minute he had found the spooked deer, it's head was softly digging through leaves to get it's fill before the harsh winter would consume the land, but what the deer didn't know was that the leave it was eating would soon be it's last meal. Jackle crept around the deer, getting on the far opposite side of her, and soon he would push the deer into Nnyla's succulent jaws.
The wind blew the scent of the deer towards him and Nnyla's towards the deer and as it raised it's head, Jackle held his breath. It wasn't the easiest of hunts, knowing he had caused her a meal that could feed many within the pack from the common kill pile. The size of the young doe was indeed a prize but he could tell that something was wrong, if indeed she decided to bolt, she wouldn't run long and would eventually stop again. Whether it was just at how young she was or if she was ill or injured, Jackle took the moment to seize the moment. Springing from his low crouching position, Jackle hit the ground running hard. Each muscle rippled under his pelt, the synchronized movement was casually gracing the ground with a soft thud as he placed his energy careful into the hunt. The doe spooked and began running towards Nnyla, each hoof slamming the ground to try and get away from the male, not knowing the danger that lurked in the woods before it. Jackle smiled and let out a vicious howl alerting Nnyla of the doe heading her way. The sound was nasty and deep and it nearly scared himself, for it was a sound of raw hunger, and natural instinct.
Jackle had begun to gain speed and caught up quickly to the doe and he weaved in and out the trees to stay upon the doe's back, carefully watching each back leg to make sure he was not hit. When he had the doe close enough to the Elite, he made his move, sending all of his weight flying through the air and onto the doe's back. As he struggled to stay on he found his teeth snapping into the wither of the animals back, trying to latch on with all his might and he silently prayed that the Elite would soon take the kill shot to the throat. Jackle seemed to hug the doe, slowly loosing grip, so he dropped back down to the ground and began the chase once more. Somewhere in the corner of his eye he thought he saw the female and as the world spun around him, he lunged once more, this time getting a better placement on the doe's back. The heavy male hit the doe hard, sending her scrambling for the ground each lean leg slapped at the air as they tumbled, and the snap of a leg was heard. It sounded like a common stick breaking, was it his, or the doe's? Jackle gathered his placement and looked at the deer lying upon the ground, trying to get up, Jackle growled. Foaming at the mouth from hunger as he went after the doe again. |

| The Elite saw the ethereal form appear through the trees. Or what she thought was an ethereal form. It solidified from a hazy white mass into the image of a familiar wolf. Jackle. Why would he ruin her hunt? Were they not friends? It was too confusing. He came very close and mumbled something she couldn't understand before setting off in the direction the doe had run. She simply stood there, stunned for a moment, before trotting off to follow him. She followed and saw him dart off around to the left of the beast. She immediately swivelled right to settle herself into the undergrowth and wait. She lay crouched, watching the sweet-looking creature nibble the leaves as the wind changed direction. The does head perked and she stood frozen for a moment before she bolted straight in the direction of Nnlya.
She sat tight, holding her position. Her blue eyes stared down the frantic doe whilst her lungs concentrated on taking slow, steady breaths. A howl sounded, an alert. But this huntress didn't require the message, she was already setting her own plan in motion. Still the hooves pounded on as she refused to change course, but Nnlya was ready. Just as the hooves came too close, the charcoal fae launched herself directly up into the path of the fleeing deer, latching her jaws onto the jugular. Her paws scrabbled at the neck and shoulders in an attempt to gain a secondary hold.
The doe bucked and writhed in her hold. Blood spurted down her gullet as she was flung about. She caught a glimpse of the Healer latched onto the deers rear. Then everything reeled and she could feel the doe toppling. Nnlya swung herself around, trying not to get caught under the body. She eventually let go and rolled away, bouncing up to see a very bloodied Jackle savaging the still struggling creature. She snarled and launched herself at him, attempting to push him away before setting her sights o nthe does head. She curled her body around the appendage, latching her muzzle over the maw of the deer, suffocating it. How could he try to feast on the still living deer? It was just cruel. It kind of scared her if she was honest. She lay curled, tensed, waiting for the moment the doe gave up its final breath. |

| Finally the source of food was down, both their bodies holding on for life as the doe took it's final breath. The sweet nectar of blood trickled down his throat and began to clench his thirst and hunger at the same time. The Elite made eyes contact with him and he turned his face away, letting go of the prey and standing before her. The jaws of the healer were caked with blood as it was damp around his throat as well from smearing when the deer went down. Silently, the healer began to walk away from the kill allowing her to feast first, it was her entitlement to her rank for her to feed first. Patiently waiting his turn, Jackle refused to speak to her, in turn he circled around until his belly found the ground and he rested his head on his paws flattening his ears.
The sight was horrific in his eyes, he was not a friendly hunter, and he knew it bothered the Elite on how he liked to hunt. It wasn't that he enjoyed feasting on the deer before it was dead, it was just he had gone so long without eating and rather than filling his hunger of roots and berries, he longed for the blood of the doe. All he was really trying to do was apologize for ruining her hunt and he contemplated on leaving all together. The was a sudden mixture of emotion and Jackle stood up rather quickly, looking back towards the spot he came from. With a soft mumble, he whispered goodbye to the Elite and began to walk slowly back to camp. |
