Do not dwell in the past,

Rose gently climbed the treacherous area, it was beautiful but dangerous. She made it to a very large and safe ledge. It was the utmost perfect area for a nice nap. She layed down and closed her eye's gently, the sun beating overhead felt good against her white pelt. She was in the shade of another ledge and was resting, not fully asleep but one might mistake her for sleeping. She could feel the ground beneath her as she breathed quietly. She could hear a quiet stream of water ahead a bit, trickling through the rocks and down the mountain. Her mind went back to a time when she was truly happy. When her heart didn't ache so much from running away from the one's she loved most. She could almost feel the snow crunching under her feet as she wandered around the place she knew best, Pine Summit. She sighed gently, it would do her no good to dwell on the past. What's done is done and nothing could change the past, nothing could heal her from such a tragedy. She closed her eye's tightly and wished away her past.

She opened her eye's quietly, looking around the area she had placed herself. It was a strange and beautiful place, though she had heard of many dangers in the area. She paused gently and wondered what the future held for her, what would happen to the pack she was in now? She shook her head gently, thinking of the future did not help her at all. It would do no good to think of the future, nor the past. She sighed gently, her tail swished back and forth as she thought of the present. She was in a dangerous place sleeping, how stupid she must be! Either way it wasn't so dangerous as she was alone and the only one who could get harmed would be herself and none other. She stood up and carefully went to the ledge, looking over to see how far up she was. The walk there had been pleasant, climbing over boulders and using her agility and strength had brought her much courage. The sight was just gorgeous, you could see water below rushing around. Her eye's glanced towards the sun, it was in the middle of the sky. She moved back towards the shade, even though it was winter and kind of chilly it was still hotter then she was used to. The shade helped cool her down, but she missed the snow and colder weather that she had been with for a year. She shook her coat and layed back down, pressing her body against the cool ground helped so she wouldn't feel as hot.

Pain jumped from ledge to ledge adeptly as he climbed up the red mountain. One wrong step and he would be sent plummeting over a hundred feet down. Still however, he was unphased by this as he continued upwards. The only way he could get hurt was if he messed up, and the Pain knew he had to be sure of his own abilities before he could improve them. This trek was actually for that very matter, training. Today he was climbing the red mountain, Cathedral mountain, for strength and stamina training, along with agility.

As he bounded up the mountain, the pads of his paws thudding along the hard red rock ledges he caught the scent of another wolf, not of his pack. Interested now he continued upwards until he reached the top, a sort of plateau formed at the top, the scent came from the other side, where a pure white fae laid.

He silently decided he wanted to fight the pure white fae, as he identified her as a Helidos warrior. He did not waste time with words either, instead he stalked over to her his fur furled already, and he let out a loud snarl, jumping down onto the same ledge as her.

Nashoba was laying in a cave near the top of the mountain, he had been really busy lately and barely could find time to come to the great mountain. He had many places he liked to relax when he wasn't busy and the cave he found was one of them. Not far from where he was he scented Katyusha, it was faint so he figured she came to visit the mountain. She must have came here with Steele awhile ago, he didn't know his guess was as good as anyone else. He was laying in silence watching the entrance of the cave. Not that long ago he noticed a Helidos scent and decided he would leave the fae to her own business, there were many more dangers in the mountains then Nashoba and he knew that. The cave he was in was tiny for a bear or cougar so he knew it was safe and the entrance was easily able to be watched without the worry of anything deep in the cave. He decided he would rest his eyes for awhile. Right before he fell asleep he caught a strong scent. It was a Erenyx warrior. He didn't know which one but he guessed it was the newest warrior, Pain.

Nashoba lifted up his body and quickly ducked out of the cave. He looked the rest of the way up the mountain and watched as Pain flung himself off the ledge, Nashoba had no idea there was another ledge under him and curiously jumped from rock to rock up to the very top. He peeked over the ledge not caring if Pain flung himself to death or not. As he towered over the edge he realized that Pain had landed on another ledge below and was snarling at the Helidos wolf. Nashoba wondered if he should jump in or not and decided that he would evaluate Pain. If Pain failed to protect himself and showed weakness he would report that to the powerful Alpha Teren. He doubted anybody has saw Pain fight except maybe whoever welcomed him to the pack. This was the perfect time to figure out how strong Pain was and if he was worthy of the name Warrior or even worthy to be in Erenyx.

Rose looked up gently at the wolf who interrupted her thoughts. "How rude... couldn't you see I was busy?" It was the first time she had ever been truly mad at someone. She stood up quietly, not looking for a fight with the ebony brute. She paused gently and thought for a but a moment before she decided that she was going to fight the brute. "I don't feel like walking away, so if it's a fight you were wanting...you've got one." She said the words with venom. A growl slipped from her maw as she crouched low to the ground. Her white pelt shimmered in the sun light as she took a step forward to get in the distance needed for a attack. Her amber eye's scanned the ledge that they were on, it wasn't the safest place and one or the other could end up dying if things went wrong. She pulled her tail and ears close to her body for defense. 'Hang on, he's bigger...let him attack first...' Her mind told her what she needed to do, but she pushed the thoughts aside.

She moved to the right side of the brute, then switched quickly to the left. She lunged forward now, aiming to throw her body against his to get him off-balance. 'What makes you think you...such a small wolf can knock into him and throw him off balance? Maybe with enough speed...' She put all she could into her legs, feeling like she was flying made her so happy. If things didn't go well, then she could always run away. That or the brute would kill her, but she doubted that anything like that would happen. They both had stories on them, pasts to be told yet they were so different in so many ways. She had taken the path of the good, in hopes that she could be freed from her past. If anything, she hoped to not just free herself but as many as she could before she got to old and died. She knew her death would be within the next two-three years, her being about the age of four now. She knew that if she were smart she could live longer, be stronger. But if she kept fighting random brute's who snarled at her, then she was in for a world of trouble.

The male bared his ivory teeth as she spoke, long canines dripping with saliva, not caring to exchange words with the face. Instead he took a fighting stance as he snarled, powerful muscles rippling under his thick black and white fur. Pain was only slightly larger than average for a male at his age, with some of the older brutes in Ernyx being larger, but compared to the she-wolf he seemed like a titan. Pain knew there would be great disparities in speed and strength between them because of this, it would be an interesting fight.

As she began to circle him, gaining speed the brute would stay still, only shifting his stance as needed to cover his flanks. Pain knew the ledge they were on gave him the advantage with its limited area there was not much space to maneuver. Before he could position himself to use this advantage however the she-wolf ran towards him now, darting from his right before slipping past him to his left flank and lunging.

Pain could only track her movements with his eyes, but his body would not respond quickly enough to fully face her. In the split second before she could land her hit the male lowered himself to make her miss, hoping she would also be tripped up as she flew over him when her legs grazed his back.

Pain had been confident he could dodge the attack, as he had already started turning to face where he thought she would land after dodging her attack. When she landed, on her feet or not, Pain would immediately target her hind leg with his powerful jaws to disable her speed.

Rose flew over the brute, turning mid air and scrambling away from the brute. It was too late, the brute had her hind leg in his mouth and clamped down tightly. She quickly twisted and attempt to latch her teeth onto the brutes shoulder. If she could do that then even with her leg in a trap of the brute's teeth she could pull down on his shoulder to get him away from her. Her mind raced to the pain she felt as his grip on her pierced skin and she could feel the blood rushing down her leg. Pain was only a temporary thing, her leg would heal soon. She growled in pain as she twisted trying to bite and get away. 'It hurts...' Her thought was simple and true, the bite from the brute hurt. If she landed her counter-attack then she might be able to get free from the brute's grasp. She could only hope that her twisting would injure her permanently. Her amber eye's stared at the size of the brute. Why had she picked a fight with someone this big? Stronger, steadier...she was looking for a fight, and she had gotten more then she could bite. With that in mind she knew she had chosen the wrong thing to fight, but she was brave and she would give it her all.

Pain clamped down successfully on the she-wolf's hind leg, immediately tightening his grip until the metallic taste of blood reached his tongue. The large male growled viciously as she twisted, still holding on to her leg. A moment later he felt her fangs sink into his shoulder.

With the stinging sensation that came milliseconds before real pain he was already in motion. Using his leverage on her leg, he momentarily tightened his grip, twisting himself around and throwing her towards the edge of the ledge, pulling her off his shoulder as well before she could do any further damage. With this move he hoped to corner her now in between the edge and himself. As he stood, still in his stance however, blood could be seen already trickling down his shoulder and foreleg. Either way, the brute still bared his gleaming teeth once more, adrenaline was already pumping through his veins and the wound for now did not seem to be bothering the male. Pain knew he could more readily take hits than the smaller she-wolf, he had taken the advantage in the previous exchange.

Taking a few moments to analyze the situation with the time he bought as she stood up again, he decided on his method of attack, and was already coming up with solutions to the most logical moves she would make to avoid such attacks. The next moment he surged forward, aiming to connect with her right shoulder as he stuck out his right foreleg to trip her's as he dragged her to the ground in an attempt to pin her. Sticking his foreleg also had the convenient side effect of widening his stance, which would give him more leverage to use his strength to pull the she-wolf to the ground.

Nashoba watched the two fight, he was routing for Pain but noticed that he allowed himself to be bit on the shoulder. Other then that he was doing good, he landed a bite on her left hind leg, 'That will slow her down' his inner voice laughed.
With out speed the small fae would certainly lose. He shook his head, this Pain wolf would do fine in Erenyx but he needed to do better. Nashoba lay down and watched closely at each move. He hoped to see a death today but doubted Pain would kill this wolf, what was the point? To show that you could kill a wolf obviously weaker then you, Nashoba wouldn't kill her. He might injure her bad but not kill her. He huffed before looking to the sky. It was still bright out but the light was fading. He wondered how long it would take for Pain to show this wolf not to mess with him. He slowly brought himself up and sat down hoping not to make much noise to distract the fight. He didn't think either of them would be happy with him watching them.

Rose felt the brute collapse into her, pinning her down. His teeth sank into her shoulder and blood ran down her side. She growled in pain and tried to get away but it was of no use. She had no way of escape and she knew it was either death for her or the brute could walk away. "Are you going to kill me now?" She hissed the words out as she studied the brute. She closed her amber eye's tightly, she liked the brute. He had guts to challenge any wolf he came across. "I like you, brute. You got guts." She spoke the words in a calm tone, showing no more pain. She shifted gently, trying to get away from the brute. She could see they both had the golden amber eye color, in fact they were probably a lot alike. The only difference was the paths they had chosen. She laughed gently at how silly they must of seemed, fighting like fools with no reason. Now she was trapped and there was no way out, no words could save her. She breathed gently, finally letting all her fears consume her. She closed her eye's tightly and then opened them again. 'Death can never be avoided. But it can be stalled.' Her thoughts raced through her mind of ways to escape. She could always throw herself and the brute over the edge, but that would mean death to them both. She stayed still and could only hope that things went in her favor. She wondered how old the brute was, he seemed to be younger then she was. Then again she was almost five years of age. He had long legs, just like she did. Except she had mastered speed and agility, he had taken in brute strength. She sighed gently, why did she have to join a pack that seemed to be at war with another? Was she really going to hold up, or just be a burden to her pack?

Pain's attack had been executed just as he had expected, the she-wolf was now pinned under his much larger form, near the edge of the cliff. It seemed she knew just as well as he did the fight was over, inquiring what her fate would be. When she closed her eyes, seeming to resign herself to death, this seemed to strike a cord within the brute, making him bare his teeth again, exposing the bloodied incisors once again, before he could speak however the she-wolf spoke again. Her words were nothing short of surprising. His amber eyes narrowed as he looked at her. He did not let her move as she shifted, laughing lightly. These emotions were so far gone they seemed almost foreign to Pain. He had chosen the path of revenge, a lonely and painful path which made one bitter. Her complacency with what seemed like imminent death was what seemed to anger him the most, "You're weak, how do you just lay here and wait for your death?! Do you think kindness will spare you? Nothing will spare you of misery and death in this world, if it's not your turn to die yet then it is someone you love." he snarled bitterly, "I have learned long ago that bonds formed for ones you care about are weak and fleeting in the face of death."

Her placed a paw on her neck, pushing down now as he moved her closer towards the edge of the cliff, "I should kill you now, it would be quick and painless." If Pain did kill her now, this would be the first time he had killed another needlessly, had he truly fallen into darkness so far?

Nashoba watched, he was ready to see a death. He stood up and watched carefully. He kind of wished he was in the paws of Pain at the moment but decided to keep to himself and stay silent. He started pacing waiting for Pain to make up his mind about if he was going to kill her or not. He remembered himself being weak and dumb thinking the pack was harsh, time in Erenyx brought him to think the way of the pack. He now was stronger because of his time in the pack and he was better now that he was here. He stepped closer to the edge and looked past the two fighting below. The mountain was steep and if either were to fall they would die. He stare past the two into the cold winter air. It would be called beautiful if he was a normal wolf but he wasn't. He was an Erenyx wolf and all he saw was red rock. He sat and focused his attention back on Pain. He waited for a move between one of them.

It had been weeks since the brute had been out of the Helidos territory. For a long time since his mate's passing he had been depressed and did nothing but mope around in his den doing nothing but grieving. Gradually, however, he picked up his broken pieces and put himself back together, though he was still not quite as complete as he was in his younger days. He found a release from his sadness in getting back to training his body to his full strength and stamina, hunting to provide for his pack and running the border checks. Sitting around idly on his own had not been helping himself nor his pack in any way, and now he was helping out and getting into a routine he felt better for it, and happier. Eclipse took it upon himself to visit the neutral lands whenever possible to check that the conditions were okay in the surrounding areas and as a scout for any members of Erenyx that may be approaching his homeland. Winter was taking its toll and if things were not so good in the opposing wolf pack they could get desperate, as well as if there were any signs of snowstorms or avalanches in the unclaimed territory it could be a warning for his pack.

Trotting along, the elite's muscles rippled under his dark mahogany pelt as his body moved. All the sparring with Nnlya and pushing his body to its limit seemed to pay off as he felt healthier and more capable than ever before. He was beginning to think he would slowly prove his worth in his rank, as he had a lot to prove after being a lead hunter previously and the last elite male had been such a great wolf. The sun was fading as his paws moved quickly over the red dirt, climbing higher up the mountain. Already he had dodged a couple of snakes that he had accidentally disturbed. The terrain was dry and crumbly, difficult to get a firm hold of with his pads as the slopes became steeper. But he pressed on with steady paws, until he came upon a certain ledge on the cliff. His ears perked at the noise of vicious snarling, his nose alerting him of an Erenyx and a Helidos wolf just around the bend in the cliff. "I have learned long ago that bonds formed for ones you care about are weak and fleeting in the face of death." The words struck a chord in the brute and as he put two and two together he figured that one of his packmates could be threatened and in trouble. He raised his tail and head tall, approaching around the corner with bold, assured steps. Instantly he saw a white fae pinned below a dark brute and being pushed towards the edge. Both of them were visibly injured. She looked much like his deceased mate yet also was obviously different. Either way it was his duty to protect his own, and he was going to defend her. He wrinkled his snout, baring his teeth as he dashed over and put his body between the female and the cliff edge. He took a wide stance and looked the other brute straight in the eye with his piercing golden gaze, pushing his face close to the younger male's. "When you love another truly the bonds are never broken, and so love is the strongest thing there is. It connects us all and may cause us to expect mercy from others. Unfortunately some wolves disappoint us in this aspect as they have become so detached from themselves and taken in by some illusion of great evil, pain and darkness, therefore doing things which are wrong, needless and ultimately pathetic in feeling powerful." Eclipse paused for a moment before spitting three simple words. "Let her go."

Rose looked at the brute that had put himself between her and the edge. She looked towards the younger male who was still standing sort of over her. She had nothing to say to either of them at the moment. Her mind was staring at the blood that covered the ground, mainly it was her own and she was in pain from the bite to her shoulder and back back leg. She looked up at the brute she had never met before, just that rained in her mind. Why would someone who didn't know her save her? Yes she was stupid to have fought another wolf in such a dangerous place, but she had figured it would test her skills out. She needed to be trained more as she never really fought to much. She had learned from a great mentor and had been stupid to think to attack first. If she hadn't done so, she might of had a chance against the brute. Then again, Rose was quite small and didn't have the strength the younger brute had. Her speed and agility made her a great hunter, a great fighter when she set her mind to it. But her mind still pondered as to why the brute would save her if he didn't even know her. Her amber eye's sparkled with joy as she waited for the young ebony brute's reply to her high ranking pack-mate. She glanced at the brute that held his ground between her and the edge. "Thanks.." She mumbled the words so only the brute could hear her. She was embarrassed that she had to have help from another pack mate. She had been planning on snapping onto the brute or do something that could buy her some time to escape and head to her pack's healers. She paused gently and knew she was going to need a much better teacher in sparring. She would no longer lose a fight, even in a bad condition she decided she would fight until she was dead. That way no one else would have to put up a fight for her.

Pain was taken by surprise when the Elite male entered, putting himself in between the cliff edge and the she-wolf pinned under him. The wolf was of a dark color, the brute thinking the dark brown to look more like black than anything else. His golden gaze also differed from his own, being of a lighter color to his fiery amber. Pain in turn bared his fangs in a snarl as the other brute did. He would gladly fight this brute, had it not been for the injury to his shoulder. Even now he knew it was important to harness his anger to fuel his efforts in a fight, but not let it engulf his reason. Perhaps, indeed, the wound would stop bleeding soon, but not during the violent and quick movements of a fight, he would bleed out. No, the other male had an advantage for now.

In a quick motion Pain disengaged, backing away from the she-wolf he had pinned on the ground. As he stared at her form laying on the ground, her head now rising up slightly and exchanging some quiet words, he knew he was not going to kill her, for all intents and purposes the fight was over when he pinned her, and he had come looking for a fight.

It was not the ebony brutes sudden intrusion that annoyed Pain the most however, it was his words. As he turned to leave his gaze fell on his golden one again, his dark amber eyes unwavering as he narrowed them in a scowl, "You live a life of lies, wolves die and they are gone from this world forever, period." With one final snort of disgust he turned and jumped off the ledge to a lower level, out of sight.
