The sun was high and although the den was cool, the ripples of the heat waves could been seen dancing across the clay and dirt outside. It was going to be a very hot day and maybe even the hottest of the season. It was late summer and fall would be soon upon them. It would time for all the healers to begin their round ups of herbs and medicinal flowers. Anything and everything they were low on would soon be plentiful, especially with the new areas and new plant life to add to their stock pile. With everyone's help they would be set until mid spring. It was always up to him to make sure every healer was doing their job and was grateful that no wolf had been seriously injured. Only minor things and he hope today he woukdnt have many coming in with sunburns and burnt pads. If they were smart they would find shade and comfort of their dens. Yet, still he began to stretch for the work was never done, but today he would take a detour.

As he settled himself he cleaned his coat to look at his best and made mental notes of what he was low on. Took in his surrounding scents and he then looked up Ember. Indeed she looked peaceful sleeping and he longed to know what she dreamed of, but he smiled and gently nudged her from her slumber. With a caressing lick he swiped his warm tongue across her lips and cheek and spoke softly in her ear, "Wake up, mon cherie." Jackle sat down before her and awaited her to rid the sleep from her eyes and collect her thoughts. As she began to awaken the lead healer began to speak, "Today is the day we speak to the Alpha's, please take your time getting ready although you look beautiful as is. When you are ready please join me outside." The male smiled and kissed her cheek once more before rubbinf his neck against hers. Calmly he trotted from the healers den and emerged out into the blazing sun. Indeed it was hot, instantly his paws burned but due to his callused pads he was far too used to the hot southern sun and the nasty summer heat in the bayou. Where all day the warmth kept the land dry and dense and where the nights felt even hotter. At least here his thick coat stood for something when the white flakes hit the ground.

The male had a fed moments before Ember would join his side and before they would walk to the den of the almighty. It would be the first time meeting the new Alpha outside of the pack meeting. Quickly he searched rhe area around him, finding wildflowers of many colors, and as he collected a bouquet he began to tell himself that each flower was another reason why he loved Ember. Each one he picked it was as if he was convincing his nerves on what he would tell the new King and the mighty Queen about Ember. Once he was done he sat down outside the den and waited for his eyes to find hers, for him to see her beautiful pelt walking towards him, and how he invisioned her take that same walk before rhe pack. How he could only hope. Time stood still as he saw her.

Upon awaking Ember was a bit disoriented. Hazy with sleep, her eyes blinked and looked around at the light that bathed her fur. She’d almost expected to wake up with her head hurting and the Healers telling her that she had just awoken from an ongoing coma. This idea scared her horribly and caused her to place her tail between her legs. Like a leaf she would tremble at the idea of her own sanity being lost. Maybe none of this was real, but she would progress in it if she possibly could. In her dreams she’d replayed what she knew of her life over and over, every memory vanishing into another. Her dreams were stuck on repeat as a record she could never stop playing. They became a distant buzz over time, but it did not stop from her blood turning to ice in her veins. As her senses were not ready to take everything in she moved from the light, her ears back and a small groan echoing from her vocal cords. She wasn’t sure why it was so bright; she’d never allowed so much light into her home before. The fae’s paw swept over her face in an attempt to wipe the drowsiness from her eyes altogether until she ended up itching her cheek upon the rough padding of her paw. She realized it then that this was not her den and she was not alone. Ember’s eyes met Jackle’s from across until she looked down once again in embarrassment. Of course this place was her den now; like a moth to a flame she had followed him. They were paired without exactly being so though she knew their time would come eventually. Stars would align and seasons would be right and Ember would find herself among his affectionate presence at the appropriate time. Sharing a den came upon as something new to her, but she liked the feel of his warmth so close to hers especially when the nights began to grow colder. She liked to be in his presence and enjoy the happiness that came from him and straight into her. They were the glowing couple that she’d always wished for and had watched others experience. How lovely was it that, after years of watching, she could be among the masses even for a fleeting moment?

When she remembered that her day would be spent presented in front of the Alpha pair, Ember found the nearest puddle. She began grooming out her fur to it’s fluffy softness and rubbing the sleep from her moonlit eyes. The healer was quick with her work and met her beloved at the entrance of their den as soon as she possibly could. Her fur had been groomed to it’s silky radiance, pale waves of white covering a pelt covered with ashes. The fae was a simple tundra walking among the world of green that surrounded her. The babe blades of grass peeked at her toes as she brought her head closer to nuzzle Jackle’s shoulder. Her pink tongue left her mouth to groom him happily and fuss over whatever little hairs were out of place. “There, as handsome as always my love. We want to make the best impression possible. Our future depends on it.” She had no doubt in her mind that their love would be recognized;they’d been inseparable since the very proposal itself. Quietly she lead the way to the Alpha den, trotting slowly beside him due to her excitement. They were a lovely pair, all pale perfection and the symbol of love itself. At least that was how she felt as she watched the lovely greenery pass them by. Little flowers dotted the path and she was reminded that her leaders were in love themselves. She hoped they’d sympathize with her cause, though she’d admit she didn’t know either of them quite well at all. Ember adored their love when she’d seen it, but speaking to them when they seemed so busy hadn’t crossed her mind. Azul had been her leader throughout her time there, and she knew that her years were becoming limited until she would have to join him among the elders. A bubble of anxiety rested in her and shook her to her core as they approached the dark hole of the den. As she settled outside the den, she called in softly. “Um, hello! Alphess Quinn and Alpha Fenris. So sorry to bother you, but there is something Jackle and I would like to discuss.”

The winds were changing here in the lands of Helidos. A chill was now evident in the air, if only minutely so. Nights were growing colder and the sun held its position in the sky for less and less time each day. Winter, though not here just yet, was approaching and there was much that needed to be done. He was confident now that he knew these lands inside and out, he had made sure of this upon arrival, but there was something that still bothered the massive male, if even only intermittently. He still did not feel a connection with these wolves he lead. He had spoken to a select few, and he felt as though those he had spoken to were slowly opening up to him, but he needed more. How could he rule if he did not have the trust and respect, and even the friendship of these wolves. He vowed to change this, and with the winter approaching, just around the corner, the need for the pack to work together in preparation provided the perfect opportunity for him to gain these things.

Fen lay next to his beloved, propped up on his elbows as he watched her sleep. She was so beautiful, and yet so fiercely strong. He admired that about her. Though she was small, she was mighty, and there were few that dared to push her. He pitied the wolf that dared challenge her someday. But his daze was broken as the sound of pawsteps caused his ears to flicker. He shifted his gaze to the entrance of their den. Two wolves approached, no doubt seeking an audience with either Quinn or himself, but more than likely the pair of them. He gently nuzzled his sleeping Alphess to rouse her from her slumber. "My love, you must awake. T'would seem our presence is requested." he began when almost on que, a voice rang from outside. With a smile, and another gentle nuzzle into the nape of Quinn's neck, the Alpha rose to his feet and carefully shook out his coat as not to allow any dirt to land on his Alphess. She was very particular about the appearance of her coat, something that always made him laugh. In his eyes she was beautiful no matter what her coat looked like.

Knowing she would be not far behind him, he made for the exit, and was greeted by two smiling faces upon doing so. With a courteous dip of his muzzle to the pair, he smiled. "How now Sir, M'lady." he greeted them, not knowing their names though he recognized both their faces from the day he and Quinn had announced his position as Alpha.

Resting beside the body of her mate, Quinn held herself in a wonderful dream. The vision of pups running around the pack and playing brought a smile to her face. Her ears were perked upon her head as her body was tight to her mate. Soft whimpers escaped sealed lips and her eyelids shut off the light of the world to the Alphess. Nothing from the outside would be able to stir her awake. But her mate was a different story. He had always been very patient and gentle with her. Even when she needed to wake, he was calm, and this was one of the many things she loved about Fenris. He was a wonderful mate and a fantastic leader. She always felt so safe within his presence. It was an undeniable pull for her to him. As she was awoken, she opened her eyes. The harvest orbs looked to Fenris and a smile appeared on her face. She watched as he moved from her and shook himself off. Her smile grew as she knew the reason he did such a thing. He was courteous of her wishes and the things she knew to be the way it was. She loved her coat, and making herself look perfect was always a good thing. Nobody would wish to see a crazy-furred Alphess. She got to her paws and stretched her legs as far as she could, while her spine sloped in a downward angle. Her tail curled over her back and wagged gently from side to side as it filled itself out. It no longer appeared as if it had been laid on all night. When she sat up, she started to lick her coat. Her tongue forced the hairs to lay perfect as they once were. It was the natural luster she was looking for. She did not need to impress anyone, but she always wanted to look good to her pack and even better for her mate. She was still madly in love with him, just as the first moment she saw him. When she was as perfect as she could be, she walked out of her den to see her mate, Lead Healer Jackle and Healer Ember. She smiled to them all, brushing up against Fenris lovingly as she rested her haunches to the ground. She looked to the pair and had a small idea what they both would be doing on this glorious morning together. "Greetings Jackle and Ember. How can we assist you this morning?"

Everything seems to be in it's place as the Alpha pair emerged from their den, his own love at his side and he smiled as Quinn's familiar face acknowledge the healers. Jackle dipped his head politely to the new Alpha and kindly smiled to Quinn once more before he spoke. "Bonjour Madam Quinn and Missour Fenris. Ember and I have come to you today to speak with you in regards to the allotment of our love. For a while now, I have been doing my duties as a healer in your lands and taken it upon myself to train others in aspects in which needed training and kept my eye on all the wolves and healers withing the pack of Helidos. However, my eyes seem to have wandered far too far and fallen for this beautiful lady at my side. Time has passed and such as the fates allow, we too have succumbed to the wondrous thing called love. If we may have you blessing, I, am asking you for permission to officially wed the love of my life."

Jackle nuzzled Ember, his accent a little thick as he spoke, but it was nice to hear an even thicker accent from the reigning Alpha. The Alphess had managed to find love and in her doing so other's too had begun to confess their loves for one another. For Jackle it was different, it was always work that came first and in his doing so, he had fallen head over heels in love with Ember. With a quick bow of his head to the Alpha pair, he spoke once more. "If you grant us the permission to become mates and fulfill our loves and destiny's together, I have one more question to ask you. Should it come time, would you consider allowing Ember to have a litter of pups. Not to speak on her behalf, but Ember has come so far in her progress and as one of the original wolves of Helidos, it would seem wonderful to give her the family she had longed to have. And, I wish to be the one to give her all of her dreams. Certainly, after you two of course and not to overstep our boundaries."

Jackle had not fully discussed this with his love, they had crossed the path of the possibility, but nothing more. Now, Jackle had openly asked for two things from the Alpha's and he would forever be in debt to the two. However, Jackle only wanted Ember to be happy, to give her everything she wanted. All was different now with a new Alpha, but he hoped that his friendly relationship with Quinn wouldn't change with him being so bold before the Alpha's. The lead healer had hoped that the new male before them wouldn't think he was being disrespectful to the Alphess either.

The largest smile spread across her face as Ember nodded her head in agreement to Jackle’s words. Inside Ember was nervous and very tempted to run from the scene fearing the focus her leaders placed upon her. She planted her feet in the ground regardless and denied her fight or flight instinct to take hold of her. This was what she wanted, what they both wanted, but she couldn’t stop the insistent hammering in her chest. Ember shifted to place some of her weight on Jackle. The movement was subtle enough to hardly go noticed, but she knew Jackle would feel that she needed him. The healer had a knot of tension tying itself tight within her until she held her breath. He’d asked what they’d come to ask, but Ember felt as though she couldn’t speak. Words were just hard for her to muster at the moment because the question dangled in the air far longer than she felt it should. She was going to worry due to her worrisome nature at heart. It seemed as though she’d done so for others but never for herself, and for some reason that intensified the issue. Ember had known Azul well but fell guilty that she had not met that degree of understanding with Quinn. Jackle tethered her to the here and now. He was the child’s wrist that she was tethered to, a balloon swaying in an attempt to float away. If he had not done so, Ember would have been sure she would’ve have drifted off completely. He sparked her desire to speak, to socialize, to enjoy life to the fullest with the years she had left until they were over. The fae wanted nothing more than to pour her heart out and try her hardest to persuade them to say yes, but again the words were lodged in her throat. She stopped trying to speak when she thought that she must look like a suffocating fish and tried to nod enough and replicate her feelings through her eyes.

When the mention of pups was brought, Ember didn’t hesitate. It seemed that she had found her voice on this topic. “Oh, yes! I second the question completely. I have always wished to be a mother. It is the one thing I had not forgotten when I lost my memories, and I have held strong to it always. But if you decline I’m sure we both completely understand. Helidos has definitely grown in enough numbers to function without the padding of little paws about the territory. It is more of a person question, dearest alphas. A favor, really, though I will respect your wishes whatever they may be.” Ember went silent when she realized she was babbling and bent her head in respect. She’d felt her beloved’s affection before and returned it then with a quick rub of her cheek against his neck. The healer closed her eyes for a moment and enjoyed her time against his soft, warm fur as it tickled her nose. She really didn’t think she would ever get over his smell. Everything about him consumed her and she was more than happy for it. Her heart swelled and pumped in a smooth rhythm but couldn’t help but feel her heart were in sync with his. Ember couldn’t really know such a thing, but feeling so was enough. The healer found her eyes lifting to look at the alphess rather than the alpha, but she did pay him a few respective glances. They were both females and so the possibility of Quinn relating with her was a higher option than Fenris doing so. The glances were quick and hardly anything to think on, but Ember wanted to share her life with her mate under blessed circumstances. She wished to capture the love instilled in the two before her, and for this she hoped they would say yes.

As the first wolf spoke, Jackle, he had a lot of things to say. He was requesting to be mates and also requesting to have pups. Here she stood with her own mate, the Alpha male, and the two of them had not even really spoken of the idea yet. She allowed the thought to rush through her mind for some time and when she had finally found the words to say, Quinn spoke in a very proper and polite manner. "That is a very large request to make. But one who has found a love to be so perfect, I know that it is not easy to find. Both of our pasts are littered with hurt and pain, but together we are renewed and refreshed. I can see why two wolves would wish to be granted the chance at love. Luckily for me, I did not need to ask permission of an Alpha, as I was already one for my pack. I also know it takes a lot of courage to ask such a thing." Quinn nuzzled herself against her mate, feeling the muscles of his body beneath his coat. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to think of what else to tell them. As she opened her harvest colored orbs to the world, she looked upon the two wolves before them. "Jackle and Ember, Healers of Helidos, I shall grant you your first request. You will be called before the pack and a mating ceremony will be performed. You will know when it is, and I will request that you stand before the pack so all may see the love you have for one another. As for the second request... No other wolves are not allowed to mate before the Alpha pair. At this moment, we have not spoken of such an idea, but when the season comes, I will tell you if it allowed or not." She smiled to the two and watched their reactions to her reply. She turned her head and looked to Fenris, giving him a cute smile. When she looked back to them, she nodded her head respectfully and spoke soft. "You may both be dismissed. When it is time, you will know. As for now, it seems my mate and I have some discussing which needs to get done."
