| The full moon shone it's bright beams down upon a world of a leaf strewn land. The stars added their lights as well for any passerby to thread their way through the trees that were starting to turn colors All was silent in this world, but for the soft calling chirps of crickets talking to one another. Even the wings of an owl were silent as it flew overhead, searching for a meal to fill its stomach. Skunks, frogs, and squirrels were all getting ready for their long winter sleep and ignored the heavy paws that trotted on their way.
They made a shishing sound as they plodded steadily through the dried leaf covered ground not knowing where they were going but just taking their owner away from painful memories. The memories persisted though, following him wherever he went for the past few days. They swirled inside him like a flock of raven and crows that searched for a carcass to feed upon. Timber's puppyhood flashed before his minds eye and he watched as the puppy that was he, bully his four younger siblings, making them cry out in pain if he got carried away in play. His feet kept plodding along, taking him down into a gully.
Fast forward, and he saw himself as a yearling stalking his youngest sibling, a sister, as she gave chase to a hare. He had watched as she snapped it up into her jaws with blurring speed and give her head a violent shake, effectively cutting off its screams of pain. Saliva had dripped from his open maw, tonunge lolling out the side as he had gazed with anticipation of an easy meal. He snuck up behind her down wind and with a snarl that had surprised her into dropping her prize, lunged. He had clamped his ivories into the skin on the back of her neck, his snarl vicious as he yanked her over, pinning her to the leafy ground. She had whimpered pathetically and had remained still, laying there submissively, for she had been a very timid and shy young wolf. He had released her and then snapped up her prized, taking it to a secluded spot away from prying eyes as he watched his sister slink away.
Fast forward again and the last night with his pack came into focus. Timber watched in his minds eye, the confrontation between his father, the alpha, and himself. Heard the words crack out like thunder, that he was banished from the pack and if he tried to come back he would be shown no mercy. Timber had limped away into the darkness that night, allowing it to swallow him into its black depths. He shook his head to dislodge the visions as his paws moved faster, trying to out distance the next vision that his paws remembers.
These paws had had a companion, but alas, she was no more. She had lost her life to a crazed mountain lion, his Shadow, his love. The male wolf, whose paws carried him far from the place where she had lost her life not six sun risings ago, felt consumed with grief. He felt more grief in that moment than when he had been banished by his Alpha. She had been the first wolf in two years with whom he had been willing to be with. Of course there had been other wolves Timber had crosses paths with but none had ended on a happy note, either fights or long chases of escape. When he had crossed paths with this dark fae he had been excited at the prospect of starting a pack of his own with her by his side, and it took very little convincing. But it had all been ripped away from him in just a few short months by one large crazed cat of a golden hue.
Her loss was a devistating blow to his heart and it had awoken a deep seething anger that had been but a spark in his puppyhood and he had wanted to seek his revenge on the creature who had stolen his companion away from him. After a couple of days he had realized his folly of revenge on the creature who would surely have torn him apart like it had done to his Shadow. "Forgive me my folly, Shadow" he beseeched his deceased companion, "I will not do so again." His tongue lolled out from between his jaws, and he kept moving until he was out of the gully.
Hunger gnawed at his insides, but he ignored it's persistent grumbling growls. He had not eaten since that fateful day of the loss of his companion, to filled with grief to concentrate on hunting. Soon Timber found himself in a wooded area that had a few leaves still attached to some trees, all dried from the weather. They clacked against one another in the night's breeze. The wind ruffled his thick pelt but he didn't feel it much. The moon went dark as a cloud scudded in front of it, blocking its light and throwing the land in almost pitch blackness but for the stars. Only a moment passed and it soon bathed its light once more upon the lone male who trudged his way to a path that his destiny may lay on. A stronger breeze picked up and tossed the dried leaves to and fro, but that wasn't all it did. Scents of other wolves caught at Timber's twitching nose, making him stop in his tracks while the wind continued to blow their scents of a pack in his direction. Overcome with curiosity, Timber walked forward until he came to the border of the territory. The dark night's silence was broken as he let out a soft woof raising his hackles. A scent lingered around the boarder that made him very nervous and a little hesitant. It smelled of a male. Not sure if he wanted to proceed and die for breaching the boundary or if he wanted entrance into a pack once again, Timber hesitated.
He thought of Shadow, his companion and what she would do in his place and knew he had the answer. She would seek admittance. A sharp gust blew over him, dislodging a leaf so that it alighted upon the ground before him with its tip pointing the way into the territory. He stared at it, was compelled forward, and sniffed it. To his surprise it smelled so strongly of Shadow that he backed away. He looked at the leaf then turned his gaze up to the star studded sky, brightly lit by the moon. "Is this your sign for me my love?" He asked the heavens. He took a deep steadying breath to strengthen his resolve, opened his great maw and let out a beckoning howl, long and loud enough that it echoed around him off the trees to carry outward to summon someone to the border.
When he finished he trotted to a tree a few feet away from the boundary walking around it to pick the perfect spot. When he found what he was looking for he sat there. His head held high, eyes alert and his ears forward. He awaited a pack member to come. Hoping he was ready to face whatever lay ahead. He shook his head to dislodge a small swarm of mosquitoes as they dove and bumped at his head. They went for his ears, crawling through his fur to get at his warm blood. |

| The ebony vixen stalked through the night, slinking with the shadows as her coat made her near impossible to see, unless you were actively looking. Ariste carried her lithe frame high, tail swinging aimlessly back and forth. Her ears rested on the top of her head, standing tall to attention. Her normally golden eyes seemed to shift into silver, coloured as the moon that hung in the starlit night, suspended on nothing, simply thin air and the unbreakable pull of gravity. The metallic shine of the moon basked everything in its gaze, trying its best to eliminate the darkness. Only the croaking chirp of the crickets dare disturbed the soothing quiet of the serene night. Leaves would hiss as the creatures of the night stepped on them, as if shushing them so they didn't disturb the peace. The vixen would slowly navigate the territories, paws silently carrying her forward at a leisurely pace. Her hind legs propelled her forward with a lurch, eyes expertly scanning the darkness, as they shifted and adjusted to the lack of suitable lighting. Paws would crush the leaves that rapidly departed from their trees, lightly dropping to the ground with the weight of a feather. The fronds crisped as the weather cooled, edges curling in toward the centers, as if pitifully attempting to shield themselves from the larger creatures who thought nothing of breaking them.
The she-beast inhaled deeply as she came to the outskirts of the lands of Erenyx, keeping stock of all the scents that she picked up, before locating the exact position of the border. Orbs focusing ahead of her, her ears twitched as the shrubbery five feet from her rustled and shuddered, before a mouse emerged. The wolf's gaze turned toward the rodent as it shot off into the darkness like a falling star, but it interested her not to chase it. It was a meager meal, unfit for even a whelp and far from worth a grown wolf with any self respect's time. Continuing on, the fea strode purposefully alongside the invisible line that marked the territory to Loners. Slender legs would place one paw before the other, mind wandering to her time here. She had met quite a few wolves in the time she had arrived - some she disliked, some she could tolerate. She had studied others and carefully adjusted her tactics, while not changing her own style. She would learn to be better, not completely change herself. And in the end, that had won her Rank, one she was pleased with as well. As something snapped behind her, she calmly turned her head to look, watching as a dark figure jetted into the sky. Obviously an owl claiming the mouse that had just darted away from the wolf.
The winds that swept across the packlands tore at her fur, tugging it away from her body. After a moment, the same wind carried the sound of a deep, masculine howl. For a moment everything seemed to fall silent, as the howl reverberated as an echo, before all the noises returned, just as loud. The Delta's ears twisted toward the source of the throaty cry, trotting toward the Loner seeking acceptance. As he came into view, her steely gaze fell on him, assessing his size and estimating how useful he could truly be to the pack. She only stopped when she reached the edge of the border, stare turning into a glare, tail curling. "I am Delta Ariste of these lands," She began, deep voice conveying her dominance, daring the male to attempt to challenge her. "What is your name, Brute, and what is your reason of being here?" She would snarl out, but kept her voice even and unwavering, betraying not any emotions she held, waiting impatiently for his reply. |

| Eyes seemed to peer out at him every time he turned his head to scan the pale darkness of the land. Scanning for the unsuspected or unprotected. He thought about the sign that he had received from his former mate. Was it really a sign? Or just his imagination running from him? He waited it seemed, an eternity for a set of eyes to appear, bobbing with a step. His hackles raised, but he didn't voice the growl that was caught in his throat and wanting to come out. She came from the shadows of the trees, her orbs glaring at him as her black pelt blended in with the night. In the moon's glow he saw her tail raise up high over her back, teeth showed. From her stance it was unmistakeable that this fae was of high ranking, but he would not beg for acceptance. He had seen it to many times before and he would not lower himself to begging. He did however, have to submit a bit. He heard her snarl at him, as if he had awakened her from a delightful dream and wanted to beat him for it. Well princess, I am sorry to disturb your beauty sleep. He thought to himself.
Timber lowered himsel before her, his belly nearly touching the ground but not quite. He did pin his ears back and lowered his gaze to rest on her feet. His tail remaining behind him. Ah, delta Ariste. His thought continued when she named herself and her status. Her voice betrayed nothing but he gave a quick glance over her form, noting that she was a bit impatient. "Good evening delta Ariste, I am Timber. I have traveled far in seeking a home. May I inquire as to the name if these lands and if there is room enough for another?" His voice was low and calm as he spoke, and he held his tongue from voicing a smart comment. To do so would surly get him denied entrance into her pack, so he kept his mouth shut. He listened to the hooting of an owl, and saw its dark shape blot out a patch of stars as it flew overhead when he glanced back up at the dark female. He quickly looked away, but not before he saw fire in her glare. |

| Cold eyes would carefully observe the male's each and every move, the way he shifted as he crouched closer to the ground, pacifying her that she would not have to deal with an arrogant beast who simply assumed he would be accepted. However, he didn't look weak, or as if he were cowering. Fangs glinted in the moonlight before black lips fell over the knives, concealing them. She kept her stance - ears perked and belfry raised, standing to full height, but her tail dropped, though staying in a curled position at the tip. 'Timber,' She mused, listening to the low, at ease voice as it spoke. 'An unique and uncommon name.' She stared at him with an unnerving look, as if he were simply small prey, and she were sizing him up to see if he was worth her time. Cold, night time air ran its chilly fingers over her sillhouette, but didn't succeed in causing her to flinch. Silence fell between the pair, until she spoke to answer him, voice dropping an octave in volume from the near-bellow. "This are the packlands of Erenyx, lead by Alpha Teren," She responded, voice chilling as she craned her head, keeping her eyes on the brujo. "And we have room only for wolves who are deemed worthy." Animals called to one another through the night, paying no heed to the two wolves as they went about their business, chatters and twigs snapping breaking the silence. "So tell me, Loner Timber, what skills do you possibly have to present and pledge to the pack, that I should grant you entrance?" She inquired, gaze flickering over his multi-colored pelt. Standing still and firmly as a statue, she awaited a reply from him, audit twitching involuntarily. |

| [center]he remained in his current position, even though his muscles cramped and screamed at him in protest and mercy. But still he remained. His pale orbs peeked up at her in time to see her sheath her most dangerous weapon in her arsenal, behind her dark lips. Her dome stayed high, ears alert. Her eyes watching him minutely, every move he made. Her banner though, flying high, dipped and drew his attention. Ah, but the night winds clawed at them both. Lifting their fur as it tried to get at the heart beat beneath their skin and bones. To freeze the blood as it pumped throughout their bodies to keep them warm. His orbs quickly lowered to her feet after seeing the look on her face. Debating whether or not he was worth her time, or, perhaps a mouse that she would very much like to rip apart slowly, painfully.
But, he didn't balk. Instead he simply ignored the fierce gaze. He figured out pretty quick that this little she-devil was like the others he had come across in the past. The only way to gain even a sliver of respect from her was a show of strength. If even the slightest hesitation or a whiff of fear went her way then denial was all that he would get from her. Well, strength is what I have sweetheart, he thought cockily. When silence settled between them, broken only by a scream of anger as a predator missed its target far off in the darkness, the dark fae named Ariste spoke again. Her voice lowered, taking on a chilling tone as she named the pack lands and the Alpha who reigned supreme there. Erenyx, and Alpha Teren. He had heard whispers and rumors of a black peppered wolf named Teren. They had talked of him in hushed tones as if he would appear at any moment. The stories had been enough to instill fear into the hearts of battle hardened warriors. The had whispered that he was a blood thirsty demon sent from hell to slay the unwary and young, or so the whispers went. Timber remained impassive at her deliverance, schooling his face and body before it could give away the shock he felt at the name of the Alpha male.
Her dark head craned to the side as she stared hard at him. What was she waiting for? A tremble of fear? A shudder of revulsion? Again, he didn't balk or give away the foreboding he felt in the pit of his pathetically shrunken stomach. Her next question hung in the air, as if daring him to answer like an idiot. To make a slip of the tongue or stutter like a moron so she would have her excuse to sink her dagger like ivories into his flesh and tearing it from his bones. He would have to watch his back around this one. His muscles screamed out again at being in his position of barely laying upon the ground but he steeled himself and spoke calmly once more. His voice steady and strong as his ears lifted a fraction, his tail swept the dried leaves from the moon lit ground. "I am a good tracker, hunter and fast runner. I am eager to learn more if these skills are unsatisfactory." Smooth you idiot, you probably just handed over your life right here and now with your pathetic honesty! the voice in his head screamed at him, along with a stream of vile curses. |

| The she-daemon kept her gaze steadily on him, seeking out even a flicker of cowerdice or uncertainty after the name. Most, if not all had heard of the brute, unless they were very new to the lands. He gave no indication of such, however emotions, such as fear, could be skillfully hidden behind a steely walk, mask of a personality. She herself knew it well, and knew the signs of it, but this Brute showed none, accept a perhaps practiced relaxedness in his expression. But the midnight fea could not be sure. He admittedly appeared quite outwardly composed. Her ear flicked slightly as the cry of a disturbed beast sounded from afar, but she didn't flinch, expression on her face never changing. As she waited for him to formulate an answer to her question, her tail tip twitched, inhaling the biting air, feeling to sharpness of the cold in her lungs. He could tell he was uncomfortable in his current position, but she honestly didn't care. If he joined Erenyx, chances were he'd have to withstand far more pain. Not necessarily, but, of course, very very likely. As his ears lifted and tail swept, a small growl would rise in her throat, vibrating as she stared at him. He was getting far too cocky, especially for the answer he gave. As she stepped closer to him, bristling, a half growl, half humourless chuckle escaped her, her eyes glared down at him once more. "Your hunting skills, though not presented, are already unsatisfactory. Within this border, is a pack only consisting of the strongest, most worthy wolves, who have no use of pompous runts. If you wish to keep your life, you should be prepared at all times from challenges and training, and learn your place. But do not expect to be thanked or congratulated on your efforts, for it is highly unlikely that will ever happen." She growled out, tail curling higher once more. "You'd do best to respect every single one of your superiors, as none of them will hesitate to end your life, in a second, should you step out of line." Calming, she spoke in an icy cool, composed tone, far from the rough snarl just moments ago. "Rise." She told him, relieving him of his posture of submission. "You will be a Hunter of Erenyx. You are expected to provide for this pack, and you will not eat until until your packmates have, understood?" She didn't truly expect an answer, just to make sure he was paying close attention to her words. Stepping back to allow him to cross, she allowed herself to melt back into the shadows of the night, fur melding in as she kept her eyes focused on him. "You are now a Hunter, brute. You may find your own way to the Clearing." She hissed before turning and walking away from the male. [Congratulations, you are now a member of Erenyx! Please change your name to Hunter Timber, and request to join the Erenyx group under the "Ranks" tab at the top of the page. You can reply to this, but it is not necessary.] |
