Yuki padded quietly through the sparse undergrowth of the forest, her paw steps quick and light and her steel grey gaze narrowed in alert concentration. The sun was still low in the sky that morning, and the occasional cool, summer breeze chased away whatever heat could have bothered the thick furred she-wolf. She supposed most of her pack mates were awake at this hour, and they were most likely beginning to go about their daily routines performing whatever duty their rank demanded of them. Unlike her copious peers, she was drafted to the lowest order of the social caste and possessed no significant responsibilities- or, at least there were none she particularly cared about doing.

That was the conundrum concerning her current standing as an omega. While she did have an inordinate amount of time to herself, she had fewer opportunities to really practice the skills she was in dire need of sharpening. She couldn't hunt big game unless she was in a group, and she was fairly wary of being in the company of so many of her supposed superiors at once. She wasn't afraid of submitting; she just found the entire process uselessly aggravating, and she highly doubted anyone would enjoy leading around an omega with an attitude as uncouth and a tongue as sharp as hers. She supposed she could still attempt to find companions to spar with; after all, there was no shortage of combat ready wolves in Erenyx.

Her time by herself, however abundant, was still not going to be wasted. There was a specific task she had sworn to undertake once the warmer weather came, and she was headed towards the lake in order to attain that goal. The degrading fact of the matter was, she had nearly drowned that winter at the falls, and she certainly would have had she not been so shamefully rescued by that fae from Helidos. It was her fault for venturing so far out on the ice while she was distracted, and the mistake had nearly cost her her life because she didn't know how to swim. She was not going to repeat her error again though, and she was determined to teach herself how to survive the water.

She arrived at the lake's sandy shores soon enough, and she released a heavy sigh as she gazed out over the expanse of pristine blue water. The memory of the thick veil of darkness descending over her, of the frigid black liquid clogging her throat and pulling her deeper and deeper towards the freezing river bottom was still fresh in her mind, but she ardently suppressed her misgivings as she slowly padded into the cool, tranquil shallows. Ok... Here I go, I guess. What little current there was was sluggish and minuscule, nothing compared to the malevolent torrent that had nearly swept her into Death's embrace. Confident in the notion that she wasn't in any danger, she slowly ventured deeper in, stopping once the water hit the tops of her legs.

The water was cold in spite of the increasingly hot summer climate, a candid relief to the North born she-wolf. She could just make out the figure of some sort of fish darting about a little ways ahead of her, its sleek shape allowing it the most graceful and easy of movements in the heavy medium it called its home. She wondered if it was some sort of trout- it was common for them to inhabit cool, clear lakes like these- and she was faintly reminded of the subtle hunger stirring in the pit of her stomach. Not now. She thought sternly to herself, absentmindedly shoving the gnawing discomfort away. She didn't want to eat until she had attained her current goal, and with that that sole desire in mind, she took a few diminutive steps further in.

Into the water [Lark, open] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Into the water [Lark, open] Into the water [Lark, open] Icon_minitimeAugust 7th 2015, 05:12

Summer was a good time indeed. Sure the heat could get a bit overwhelming at times but that could easily be looked after by just keeping to the shade or covering yourself in cool waters. This was where she was headed now. It had taken a while but she had managed to get a decent amount of information when it came to territories, packs and whatnot. One thing that had stood out to her was the large pristine lake that was located in the unclaimed lands. It sounded perfect and it was where she was currently headed. Of course it would have been much better if she could have had her sister by her side but as Alphess of this pack she understood Quinn would be busy. So she left the territory by herself despite the warnings thrown her way as to how she could come across wolves from any packs out there and once you were in the Neutral Lands there was no borders to save you. But Lark had been through a whole lot in her life and still stood here alive and healthy today, surely that had to mean something. She doubted a wolf feeling a little unfriendly when it came to pack rivalries would be much of a threat when it came to what she had been up against. Of course she did not know enough to know just how much some dangerous wolves hated her sister and would take her life in seconds if they knew of the kinship between the two.

She continued on, trotting across the lush springy grass and a gentle smile placed on her features. Life buzzed around her, this was her favorite thing about Summer, the life. Everything was so alive, prey was plentiful- beautiful plants grew lushly throughout the territories. She just could not get how one would dislike Summer and then enjoy the deadness of Winter- it wasn't the cold that bothered her that much although she had to admit she preferred heat. But it was how dead that everything was that bothered her, everything was much too silent- it was a lonely season filled with death. She pushed all thoughts of Winter from her mind and instead focused on the signs of Summer surrounding her, even humming happily. Finding her sister's pack had made a big difference in Lark's life. She was overjoyed to have a proper home again, and the fact that her sister was the one who led it made everything much better. Finally a much cooler breeze began to ruffle her fur and chase away some of the heat, she must be nearing her destination. In fact, just as the thought entered her mind she was turning the corner and standing before a huge expanse of water. It shimmered magnificently in the sunlight and she inhaled deeply- feeling peace come over her.

She stepped forward until the grass beneath her paws turned to sand and then slippery smooth pebbles. Dipping her head, she drank a mouthful of the refreshing water and felt it run down her throat. With a happy sigh she stepped forward until it reached her stomach but went no deeper. Her ears flicked as she hummed again only to stop as a sound reached her pricked ears and her honey coloured gaze flicked over to the source. Another wolf. A fae. She watched in silence for a few moments, slightly disappointed at having her peace ruined but she'd overcome it. She always did. She frowned and lifted her nose- sniffing at the air. It was harder to catch the scent due to the water surrounding the two but she could still catch it faintly and knew it was not from Helidos. She frowned, her knowledge on the packs located here was limited but she supposed she would just play it safe until she knew if this wolf was a threat to her or not. She waded forward until the distance between the two was much smaller and the other fae of earthen colours must have noticed she had company. The Hunter stopped a little while off, keeping distance between the two. "Hello miss. Who might you be? I am Lark, a Hunter of the pack Helidos." She stated, voice calm however tinted with slight wariness as she kept herself alert and light-footed, still not sure as to how this female would react to having company.

The she-wolf continued her gradual move into deeper waters, her stomach tightening slightly with apprehension. She had to walk slow, and she planned to stop when the lake's cold surface hit her chin. She assumed she could safely attempt to swim from there, though she did possess copious doubts and misgivings about her plan in the back of her mind. What if something suddenly went wrong? The water ahead of her was still deep enough to drown in, and there wasn't anyone around to lend their aid should she need it.

Apparently that wasn't the case, however. The abrupt sound of lapping water immediately caused her to whip her head around, her steel grey gaze wide with surprise. There was a short, gray furred she-wolf standing in the water not far off, and her shock over the unexpected appearance caused her to stumble on something on the lake bottom. A strangled yelp left her maw as her head ducked under the water momentarily, and she scrambled back into the shallows once she had regained her bearings, violently coughing up the fluid in her lungs. Unfortunately by then the she-wolf had already noticed her, and she approached her with a polite a greeting, introducing herself as Hunter Lark of Helidos.

She glared spitefully at the fae in return, silently irritated by the interruption. "Nice to know. I love being randomly approached by strangers. What, does privacy not exist in Helidos?" She responded sarcastically, an irate sneer pulled across her maw. She knew deep down that she was being rude, that the she-wolf hadn't really done anything to warrant such a severe response, and she huffed slightly beneath her breath, her curt aggravation slowly devolving to an indifferent exasperation. "Sorry, that was mean." She stated with a heavy sigh, some minute level of sincerity detectable beneath her apathy.

Usagi used to reprimand her daily for being so overtly peevish towards others. She had claimed that she acted so harshly out of defense, that she was only severe on those who harassed them first, but she knew that wasn't always true. It was just that, she and her sister were mistreated so often, she had some how become conditioned to believe that every new face was that of an enemy, something she had to protect herself and her sibling from. Of course she wasn't so naive to believe that that was actually how the world operated, but it would be even more foolish to accept everyone openly. It was best to remain vigilant and on guard, but there was no way she could attain her goal by immediately shoving everyone away.

"It's Yuki, and I'm kind of busy at the moment." she responded briskly as she turned her back on the female, the water splashing up erratically around her as she moved, the tiny black bodies of minnows darting fleetly away from her thrashing paws. "If you want something, make it quick. I'm not a big fan of audiences." It's not that she wasn't trying to be courteous; she just didn't really know how. She could certainly hold her tongue when necessary or put up an unstable facade for her pompous superiors, but she hadn't ever genuinely socialized with another wolf besides her sister. She had acquainted herself with members of her pack, but that was really only done to further her own self interests. She wasn't that accustomed to friendly company.

The water lapped at her stomach fur and gentle eyes widened with worried shock as the other fae lost her footing and was momentarily lost from sight beneath the waters. She was just about to move forward to try and help when the russet furred canine became visible once again as she dragged herself through shallower waters- coughing and spluttering everywhere. Frowning, Lark waded closer to her and tilted her head to the side. "Are you OK..." she began but trailed off at the spiteful gaze thrown in her direction. Shifting uncertainly in the waters, Lark's ears kept leaning back against her head before flicking up again over and over again.

At the unfriendly words thrown in her direction, Lark felt her defenses flare but her tone remained calm and honey gaze still holding a gentle shine to them. Any muscles that had tensed at the words  would then relax at the apology given a few moments later. Lark frowned, uncertain as to what tab to place this female in- a threat or an ally? Or maybe neither, however for now it would remain between the two. She was not sure which pack this wolf belonged to, she knew there was two others that shared these lands with Helidos but had yet to know enough to distinguish the two from each other. "You are fine. I merely approached you because you were here and so was I, it could have been considered rude if I did not." Tilting her head to the side, she watched the wolf with slight curiosity, still wanting to know more about these lands. "Anyway, apologies. I am still new enough to these lands and was curious upon meeting another wolf that is not from my own pack" Watching her closely, Lark could not help but want to know what pack this wolf was from and what rank she held. If this was where she was going to spend the rest of her life then she may as well get to finding out as much information about the area as possible. She had no doubts that this was where she would spend the remainder of her life. She was growing older now and was ready to hopefully settle down and start a family, get a mate...Such thoughts did bring sadness crashing down on her at the thought of the former brute she had loved before he was murdered by the beta who managed to convince the whole pack it had been her...Shaking her head slowly, Lark took a deep breath. The only way to move on would be to find love again and she knew that is what he would've wanted.

Her attention was returned to this other wolf as she turned her back on Lark, speaking briskly. So her name was Yuki...yet still no pack name or rank was given. She nodded. "Well I hope I can say it is nice to meet you Yuki. Would you mind me asking what pack are you from? Then I can leave you to be by yourself if that is what you wish. Remember I am still new to these lands before wondering why I do not know where you come from by your scent" She watched her calmly, keeping her tail raised above the water as it flicked from side to side. Occasionally catching a drop of water and sending it flying. Something slithered by her paw and she pulled it out of the water quickly with surprise, however it was only a small fish and it was gone in seconds due to the sudden movement from the Hunter. She turned back to the female, curious to know what it was she was doing but not wanting to irritate her further, she had already asked a question so for now she would remain silent.

[Sorry for how bad this is, haven't had much muse for Lark.]

Yuki listened quietly as the grey furred she-wolf quietly accepted her meager apology, and she turned her snout back slightly to glance in her direction as she mentioned the fact that she was simply attempting to be polite. She was somewhat confused when it came to social etiquette; having lived the majority of her life either distanced from her birth pack or wandering the wilderness as a loner, she wasn't quite accustomed to the concept. From what she had noticed in Erenyx, most of her compatriots seemed to prefer to keep to themselves unless they were called upon specifically. Must be a cultural difference. She assumed casually to herself as she turned around completely to face the female, the water swooshing subtly about her as she did so. It seemed as though Helidos simply had a much friendlier atmosphere than her own pack, a direct reflection of the reputation and stereotypes she'd heard.

Her ears perked forward slightly with interest when she mentioned that she was new to the area. Come autumn it would have been a year since she first joined, though she had spent the entire spring away, aimlessly searching for her treacherous brother's vanished scent. I wonder... If he was nearby during the spring... Could she have seen him? The possibility was a stretch, but it was still fairly plausible. It was more likely that she had not; after all, the chances of two rogues from separate backgrounds randomly meeting were, in most circumstances, slim to none. It was a bit more feasible here, however, where copious lone wolves approached the borders of three distinct packs seeking membership. She couldn't help but wonder if that was why Hasoka's scent had disappeared so abruptly. He had either neared the outskirts of the massive expanse of land, noticed they were inhabited and turned back, or... or he had found a new pack to join...

The notion sent her stomach lurching, and her steel grey gaze narrowed into a baleful glower as she stared down resentfully at the tranquil surface of the lake. If he's here... If someone took that bastard in, I'll... She cut her thoughts short there as she took a deep breath to calm her fraying nerves, releasing a sharp huff as she shoved the idea away. I have no proof that anything like that has happened. It would be illogical to act on something so groundless. She reminded herself curtly, her brief bout of rage dying down to a faintly simmering flame. I doubt that traitorous jack ass would ever even want to join a pack again, considering what happened after the incident.

She turned her attention back to the fae in her company at her inquiry, her formerly austere, guarded demeanor relaxing somewhat into its usual nonchalance. "I'm from Erenyx. You know, the 'evil pack.'" A sarcastic smirk passed over her maw as she mentioned the group's fairly volatile reputation, though her tone wasn't near as brash nor harsh as it had previously been. "I can understand why we don't draw as many new recruits as our happy-go-lucky neighbors. Is that why you joined Helidos? Did they greet you at the border with a welcome committee and a sea of smiling faces?" She wasn't really trying to be rude or offensive in spite of her blunt commentary. She didn't really have much of a reason to be, anyways; Lark didn't appear to pose any kind of threat to her.
