Winter was bitter cold and uncomfortable for the dingo. She came from a climate where even winter was near as warm as this place's summer. It had been many years since she'd been home, but even the places she had travelled had had similar climates. The only place that rivalled this for winter was the northern tundra where she'd spent two years in a wolf pack. Not the kindest of environments. She pined for the winters of home. Cold but bearable temperatures, rain and thunderstorms, leaves still on the trees. The only white to be found on the ground was the white sand on the beaches of the coast. It only snowed consistently each year in the mountains down south, the mountains to the west were lucky to see a snowfall each year. But it never seemed as cold as this. This winter had been miserable so far, only training with her mentor and her den collapsing on the eve of a minor blizzard. She cared about Fel and enjoyed their time together, but she often felt she couldn't be herself around the hulking fae. Her accent was an oddity she couldn't reign in and her form was smaller and stranger looking. Some of her colloquialisms and mannerisms were queer in this land, so she'd had to alter her way of speaking just to be understood.

Narla simply wanted a day away, to meet other creatures and learn about them. The Beta had given her permission to spend time openly with the pack, now that she was better trained and a little more adjusted to pack life. For the most part it was similar to life in a dingo pack, just with wolves in a different land. She was an outsider and she had to learn to fit in in this place. She knew if this didn't work out she would have to travel back to her home on the southern continent, a journey she likely wouldn't survive. She looked around at the marvellous trees and their wondrous display of colour in this the season of death. The leaves displayed an interesting array of purple and red depending on the light one looked at them in. It made her smile, to see this one place alive in winter, like her home even if these trees were nothing like the ones from home. She wandered about in their maze, finding the biggest and oldest tree with a trunk wider than she was long from nose to tail. She leapt atop its showing roots, thick things they were, traversing their crests and valleys. In the shade of the tree she looked up, barely catching a glimpse of the sky through the branches. It never seemed to snow here, she liked that. Her tail lifted in her pleasure as she gazed at the intricate patterning of light, seeing it shift and shimmer.

The healer hummed languidly to himself as he wandered, his light brown gaze drifting aimlessly along the winter milieu surrounding him. A freezing wind bit into his flesh as he went, a bitter gust that sliced through his coarse gray pelt and cut deep into his bones. I am very ready for this season to end. He noted haphazardly to himself, a wry smile twitching at the edge of his maw. The snow was nearly suffocating in most areas, and the dry, still air was so frigid he almost felt as if his throat was freezing over every time he took a breath. In spite of his relative aversion to the melancholy weather, he understood that none of it could be helped. The cruel grasp of winter came and departed every year unhindered, and it would continue to do so for millennia. He and his pack mates were merely pawns of nature, inferiorities who could do little more than survive and tolerate whatever changes she initiated. Life would go on, at least for now, it seemed. Anyone could abruptly find themselves consumed by an ailment he lacked the herbs to treat, or attacked by a bear or mountain lion while alone and without aid, or one could even easily tumble down a crack in the mountain passes they couldn't see, crash through the ice over some frozen source of water, take a tumble off the side of an unseen cliff and plummet to their death. He thought it somewhat odd he was entertaining such thoughts before proceeding to wonder, perhaps, if he was unconsciously wishing some great accident like that would sweep him off the face of the Earth.

He shuddered abruptly at the notion, a terror so deep and archaic rising from the depths of his mind he knew he was incapable of ignoring it. He didn't want to die, he knew that. Even after the incident, and the fire, he hadn't wanted to die, in spite of every single one of his loved ones slipping from his grasp. It was the most agonizing cowardice he ever felt, that, despite the world burning to ashes around him, he had been too afraid of death to even imagine allowing it to take him. Jeez, my thoughts are getting morbid. Who am I turning into? He chuckled hollowly to himself as he chased away his shameful memories, his demeanor a bit more dejected than before. He supposed that was the most significant pitfall of his stark lack of courage; in spite of his relative unwillingness to fight fate or change, if the path of his destiny was seemingly rolling towards his demise, he'd be far too petrified to accept it.

The male continued his semiconscious humming as he soon found himself treading through a placid wood, and a complacent smile fell over his maw as he noticed the thick blanket of white thin out beneath his paws. He didn't know where this place was- he could tell he was well outside the pack's borders- but he quite appreciated the serenity of the quiet forest. The atmosphere was fairly pleasant compared to most places, and the world was silent save for the halcyon murmur of the breeze through the tree limbs. Minuscule icicles scintillated in the lambent winter sunlight, and could see the occasional bird flit aimlessly among the branches. He exhaled a long sigh of content as he marveled at the ornate scenery, the numbness of his paws and body momentarily forgotten. Now this is much more to my liking. His burn scar ached slightly from the bitter chill, but he supposed he could ignore it if only to enjoy the placidity; after all, it was nothing a nap couldn't fix, and perhaps a bit of ragwort when he returned to his den.

He searched in calm silence for an amicable place to rest before finally settling down beside the gnarled roots of one of the trees, his disposition peaceful and relaxed. His eyelids drooped lazily as he surrendered himself to the gentle lull of slumber, though his descent into sleep was abruptly interrupted by the sound of paws padding through the thin veil of white. He perked his head up before pricking his ears to listen, taking a deep inhale through his nose to catch an unexpectedly foreign scent. He turned his snout in the direction of the trail to glimpse a small, sandy colored canine plodding past the line of trees behind him, and he stood slowly then, a curious smile falling on his maw. She was unusually diminutive, with a blunter snout than most wolves an oddly large ears. Ever the extrovert, he was instantly compelled to speak to her. "My apologies miss; I hadn't noticed you before. Am I interrupting your walk?" He inquired congenially before getting steadily to his paws, his demeanor casual and easy. "Please pardon my saying so, but I don't believe I've ever seen a canid like yourself before." He noted amiably, a friendly smile pulling at his maw. "You must be a long way from home, I presume."

the rogue king

I never expected to find myself here, but now that I am... I can't see myself being anywhere else.

Forced to leave the lands, Desmond could not handle the faes and their essence. It covered the pack, filling it with temptation and lust. Desmond did not wish to feel this way, in fact, he wanted to be alienated from it. He moved away from the pack lands with much haste, heading for the unclaimed territories between all the surrounding packs. He diced to go as far south as he possibly could without stepping on the toes of the Pyrvanthros wolves, though he figured at one point, he should stop by and visit them. See  what their pack was all about. Heading south the scenery seemed to change for him. It was once scold and windy, snow falling and then to enter into Lavender's Grace, it appeared to no longer be existing. He had heard of weather being different in different places, but this was ridiculous. But he had to admit that he liked the warmer temperatures than the cold ones. He was better suited for the chill of winter - presently.

Desmond made his way through the fallen leaves, watching as they fluttered around his paws from the gusts of wind.  Everything was at peac-e here. moving between the trees, he sniffed at his surroundings, taking in the scents from all over the place. It was nice to be away from wolves that smelled of enticing scents. Desmond soon found some of the scents were fresh, recent even. There was a possibility that they were even coming from wolves that were here right now. Moving forward, Desmond continued on his way. The Alpha was surprised to find a scent of one of his own wolves. The other scent he had not smelled before. He knew it was not a Rogue, for he had found all of them, unless any new ones would appear. He moved from behind the cover of the shadows and stood close to the both of them. His pack member was the dog-thing, the one Fel had been training. He smiled to her, showing he was happy to finally be seeing her, especially without her personal guardian. He moved his eyes to peer over towards the male, curious of where he came. "What Alpha do you serve, brute?" he asked in a neutral tone.

The little creature admired the gentle sway of the leaves in the breeze. If she closed her eyes she could almost pretend it was spring again. Narla inhaled deeply the crisp air of winter, one of the few things she enjoyed about the season. The icy blast shot through her nose and roared down her chest. A sharp sound, a word. She jumped slightly, turning to find the wolf. At first she was annoyed at being disrupted in her peaceful moment. The grey beast, easily larger than her, was rising to his feet and approaching. Did I interrupt him? That thought made her regret her initial annoyance and her face broke into a friendly grin. "I'm sorry mate, didn't realise you were here." She said, her accent bounding with her words, identifying her as different. She chuckled. "Well if my looks didn't tell you, my accent sure did. Yeah, I'd be surprised if you had seen one of us about. I'm from Australia and I'm a dingo. We're kind of the wolves of the land." She smiled, taking a breath before realising she'd failed to introduce herself. "Bugger, where are my manners? I'm Narla." She wanted to ask more, since he smelt so different to any of the wolves she'd met. But another approached, demanding to know the males allegiance. This other she recognised as Desmond, her Alpha. Though they'd never actually spoke, she had seen him at a pack meeting. I can't embarrass Fel, was the first thought that came to her mind. She gave a casual, respectful not towards the Alpha but was otherwise silent.

The male took a seat casually once the fae noticed his presence, his friendly grin entirely undeterred. He tilted his head slightly in obvious curiosity at the name of the strange land she claimed to originate from, and he was even more thoroughly bewildered by the species name she produced for herself. "Australia..." He tested the foreign word out slowly on his tongue, his pensive confusion giving way to easy nonchalance. "It has a pleasant ring to it. Where is that, exactly?" The word sounded so strange to him, and her manner of speaking was alien as well; he couldn't imagine such a place being anywhere within his limits. He flashed her yet another amiable grin before bowing his head in polite greeting, his demeanor as confident and calm as usual. "Pleased to make your acquaintance, Narla. I'm-"

He cut his introduction short at the abrupt sound of an approaching figure, and his friendly smile faltered slightly at the sight of the large male, a twinge of cautious nervousness writhing through his gut. He was a massive brown pelted brute with sharp green eyes, and he carried himself with an authority he assumed was reminiscent of a higher rank. He was somewhat surprised when he addressed him, but he recovered swiftly enough, dipping his head in a congenial manner before responding with calm composure. "I serve Alpha Magnus and Alphess Chiara, of Pyrvanthros." He raised his head once more then, his demeanor polite and friendly as he noticed Narla's knowing acknowledgement of the other male. After taking a hasty whiff of the air, he noticed that their scents were fairly similar, and he thought it safe to conclude that they were members of the same pack, a foreign entity to his relatively new dwelling. "My name is Samoset, pleased to meet you both. Might I ask, what pack do you two hail from? I'm fairly new to the area and I have yet to be acquainted with anyone outside of our borders." He inquired amiably, a friendly curiosity tainting his otherwise respectful disposition.

the rogue king

I never expected to find myself here, but now that I am... I can't see myself being anywhere else.

Both wolves seemed to be respectful towards one another, which was a good thing. Desmond did not need a bunch of little delinquents running around and causing problems in the lands, not unless they were Erenyx wolves. Those, which had been blinded by Teren's reign, they were demons that needed to be extinguished from the world. It would help all the wolves, whether they be friend or foe. He looked first to Narla, the "young" warrior he knew that his most respected member was training. He smiled to her, nodding in return to her single nod. He dipped his nose towards the ground, and changed his eyes to stare at Samoset. "Magnus and Chiara, those names do not ring a bell to me... I don't think I have heard them before.." He looked to seated brute, looking over his features. There were so many different looking wolves in all these lands, and yet, this male seemed to look a lot like his spy, and her deceased sister. Was he also related to their family or was this just a common look? He was unsure, but he would answer the question of where they came. "I am Alpha Desmond and we are both from Agavos. I don't know that I have met any wolves from... uhh... whatever your pack is called. I've heard of it, but I have not heard from anyone who actually lives there. I don't meant o be rude or anything, just haven't heard from any of you..." He looked to Narla and gave her a soft smile. "I was hoping I would find you, miss. I have wanted to speak with you, since I have barely been able to utter a word to you. I am told you are excelling in your training, which makes me very proud. I know things might be different for you, but it pleases me to see that you are adjusting well with our lifestyle. At some point, I wish to present during your training, or perhaps you would like to train with just me. Give Fel a chance to throw around some other wolves, eh?" He smiled to her respectfully, knowing full well that his Beta was not tossing wolves around, but that it was just a joke.

Narla was very casual, calm, but not stupid. As trained she kept her eyes and ears observant, ensuring the approach of any others would not go unnoticed, but her demeanour was nonthreatening. These were no enemies. She did not know either of them well enough to call them friend, but they were not adversaries. Her accent thick as ever, she answered the male who had yet to give his name. "It is a place far across the seas and well south of here. So far south that the seasons are opposite." She grinned, waiting for his response, except her Alpha had interrupted him. The pale grey male claimed to serve an Alpha called Magnus and an Alphess called Chiara. She didn't know the two - a sentiment Desmond shared aloud - but she didn't recall Fel saying anything derogatory of them. The unnamed male instead introduced himself to them both. Efficient, Fel would approve. He claimed his name was Samoset, a Healer being his rank. The dingo had found a new appreciation for healers after her near fatal encounter with the puma. Even with Fel killing the beast, Narla might have died of her wounds had the healers not acted quickly. She still had long scars stretching down one side of her body and probably would for the remainder of her life.

"I'm from-" The dingo began before her Alpha spoke for them, introducing himself and giving their pack. Personally, Narla thought the tensions between members of different packs was stupid. Why should wolves who'd never met harbour such strong hatred for one another simply by the identification of which pack they belonged to? Back home most packs passed by one another without incident, there was no need for unnecessary hostility. Packs rallied together when a threat posed itself, but most did not cause issue. It was simple, most everyone looked out for one another. She waited quietly until finally her Alpha addressed her with a smile. My turn. He didn't really ask much of her, not really getting to know her, just acknowledging that his Beta had taken an interest in her training. Don't embarrass Fel. Narla was her own creature, she did her own thing, remained who she was. But the Beta was her friend and Narla didn't want to make her look bad. "Nah, yeah, that could be fun. Could be good to see a different fighting style, gotta learn, gotta survive." She smiled right back before turning to Samoset. "So those leaders of yours, they any good?" She asked curiously. Everyone had their own opinions on Alphas, it would be good to know a bit about the other leaders in this place.

The healer cocked his head slightly to the right in abrupt intrigue, an incredulous smile tugging at the edge of his maw. Opposite seasons? Now you're pulling my leg... The notion sounded distinctly impossible, to think that there was a place somewhere in that moment where he wouldn't be freezing his tail off, and there would be no threat of running short of medicinal supplies. Still, he opted to take her word for it, and he shook off his doubt and disbelief with casual ease. It wasn't like he had been capable of traveling far enough to know for himself, and it seemed as though she was. Ultimately he was aware of the fact that Nature would do what it wanted, as it had done forever, with no regard whatsoever for what he believed practical or possible.

He turned his polite attention back towards the large male as he pondered quizzically over the names of his leaders, his tone cordial and nonchalant. "I believe they were both members of another pack before creating their own, if I remember correctly." His curious brown gaze drifted upwards as he wracked his brain for a label, his expression pensive. "I think it was... Ere... Something. Ah, I know it started like that. I'm really not familiar at all with the other packs that roam around this place. I was a loner before wandering here." From what he could tell of the amalgamated scents drifting about, he estimated there was something like four or five distinct groups, one of which he knew he could attribute to the pair standing before him.

His eyes widened slightly in surprise when the male revealed himself to be an alpha- Desmond, so it appeared, the leader of Agavos. "Oh, I... I'm sorry, I hadn't realized." He stammered somewhat, his confident, charismatic grin faltering somewhat as he bowed his head, abashed and a bit nervous at the realization of his mistake. It was Mae's ingrained teachings that motivated him to treat any potential superior with respect, that and his own cowardice. He wasn't overly acquainted with pack dynamics, but he was hesitant to anger anyone who could be a threat, and he really didn't know how well he could outrun two pursuers. Somewhere in the back of his mind he knew Magnus would likely not be pleased to know he had bowed to the alpha of a rival pack, but, as usual, he was more concerned at the moment with preserving his hide. Granted Desmond and Narla seemed congenial enough, but, considering what he'd encountered before, it was best that he didn't take any chances. Better safe than dragging my disemboweled entrails back to my den, anyways.

He lifted his head once more at Narla's inquiry, and he reassumed his kindly disposition, though, his stomach still churned with a concealed uncertainty. Magnus had made him swear his total loyalty to Pyrvanthros before accepting him; was it treachery to share their performance as leaders? After a few moments of consideration, he shoved his inhibitions off, his easy smile returning in full. "Well, this is the first pack I've ever belonged to, so I don't have much of a basis for comparison, but I can say with certainty that both Magnus and Chiara are capable and fair. Though the leadership is stern and orderly, no one abuses their power, and there is a mutual respect between them and the rest of us. It... Well, I guess it... Sort of feels like a family." He hadn't expected himself to say it, but the more he reflected, the more he knew it to be true. Everyone he had met thus far were kind and cared about doing what was best by each other. It was such a sharp contrast from what he had watched Argo thrust himself into, from what he had expected. He was sociable by nature, and his currently lighter feelings were reminiscent of his early life with Raven and Mae.

the rogue king

I never expected to find myself here, but now that I am... I can't see myself being anywhere else.

"Please.. don't do that.." Desmond had been so accustomed to his own pack doing it, as they should... But another wolf from out of another world, not necessary. He wished to feel as though he were a Rogue once again. Sometimes his title seemed to slip out time and again. "I am an Alpha, but I am not your Alpha. I thank you for the show of respect, but encourage you to treat me as your equal. I am just a wolf, seeking a pleasant conversation with a wolf from a foreign land. Come to think of it, the pack you speak of is Erenyx, ruled by the beast, Alpha Teren. I never met your Alphas, but I would assume them to be wise enough to leave their lands. To the west, lays a pack known as Helidos. Just recently they lost their Alphess, by Teren's own jaws. Of the four packs, I only know the three I mentioned. Sometime I would like to meet this.. Magnus and Chiara.. Perhps some sort of treaty can be formed? Do you think they would allow such a thing?" He knew it was a hard call for the Healer to make, but surely he would know if their intentions were of good or not. That was all Desmond wished for, nothing of ill will or anger. The Alpha looked to them both. "Good, I shall come and seek you in the Spring time, when the flowers are in bloom and the world becomes much more beautiful."

She walks. "She talks." She thinks.

Narla could see the incredulity on Samoset's face. She grinned, loving that she could mess with wolves this way. It was a completely normal thing for Australians to mess with foreigners - although this usually meant birds that had flown south to escape the winter of the northern continent. But, on this particular subject she was telling the truth. "No joke, I swear, right now it'd be a gorgeous, blistering summer. Much hotter than anything I've seen here." She'd wanted to say. Instead she'd had to listen to the two males talk ever so politely. It left a bad taste in her mouth, watching all of this polite, uncomfortable exchange. It made her skin crawl.

She at least got to hear a little about these other Alphas, the ones who lead Samoset's pack. This Magnus and Chiara had had a run in with Teren and left his pack. This brute whose name she'd heard so often but had not face in her mind... the faceless demon. At least they seemed smart enough to get out and do their own thing. But then she had to deal with Desmond and his poetic nattering. It was, to be frank, extremely annoying. Who the hell actually speaks like that? Finally it was quiet for a moment and she could speak. "Okay, guys can we cut this prim and proper bull? It's bloody exhausting and I need my energy to keep warm. And Des?" She turned her head to look at her Alpha, givinghis own nickname, as was common in Australia, "We get it, you wanna train with me in spring. No need for that flowery, fancy wording. Say it straight mate."

She looked over at Samoset, expecting to see some kind of shock on his face. From what she'd gathered of wolves in this area, speaking so bluntly to ones Alpha was extremely uncommon. She didn't really care at this point. She was going to say things as they were and not mince her words. It made no sense to waste breath on unnecessary words things she didn't mean. So she grinned at him and sent him a little wink. She wasn't being rude or angry, she wasn't trying to be offensive and hopefully he'd see that.
