Interlude [Open] Empty
PostSubject: Interlude [Open] Interlude [Open] Icon_minitimeMarch 29th 2016, 17:28

It had been the first time he had experienced snow and all that came with Winter and he hadn’t exactly been sure what to think of it. Well, he could think about it objectively: it was cold to the touch, left the scenery blindingly white, and didn’t hold his weight like the earth did. It had made travel slower and also had clung to his coat, which seemed to have prepared itself for the low temperatures accordingly by blooming into a fluffier and softer mass on his skin. Whether he had liked or disliked it all, nobody would know. He was not predisposed to having an opinion, or giving it to anyone. Conláed was a brute who withheld from feeling towards almost anything, considering only facts and weighing them up as to whether or not something was in his favour and then reacting to it from those judgments. Perhaps his unusual and difficult lifestyle as a young rogue of a single parent made him that way, or perhaps it was his innate personality. Nature or nurture was always an interesting debate and one which he sometimes pondered over. Seeing as concealing his whereabouts had not been such an easy task in the previous season and more energy was spent on obtaining food and shelter, he judged it as a primarily negative occurrence, but that didn’t mean that nothing interesting was had from it. He had learnt where to find water when the lakes froze over and how the animals migrated to areas richer in food. Following and observing the creatures of the forest was a common habit for him, and being able to easily see other’s prints on the ground was particularly useful.

His paws marched on over the ground as it gave way to chilly water and as he noted how far up his limbs the liquid reached he realised how quickly he had grown. Of course he knew that he was bigger than before due to the broader view he had of his surroundings, but he only just then gave thought to how much his abilities had increased in such a short time. A few months ago he knew he’d had much poorer coordination and strength to tackle the rocks around this area shrouded in fog, and as a relatively weaker and clumsier young wolf he would probably have fallen maw-first several times already. But that was why pups were born at this time when the days were longer, the prey more plentiful and the nights milder, as it gave them the best chance at survival while they were small and vulnerable and they had time to grow and develop before the harsh months arrived. Conláed understood by now that the world was against him. It was against every living thing in fact, throwing danger and risks their way at random intervals. However, it was not maleficent, as these hazards were only a test to weed out the weak as they all competed to achieve the goal of remaining healthy and having young. Nature was fascinating in the sense that she created and mothered a natural chaos which somehow nurtured harmony on Earth since each knew their role within it. She gave chances, provided them all with instincts and skills to protect themselves and their offspring. Like any mother though, there was only so much she could do to care for them all and she could not pick favourites, so bad things did happen quite frequently. But what was a great misfortune to one, would benefit another. That was why Conláed was deeply adamant on being away from others and focusing on himself, as he only truly had himself to rely on. The fact that his father had never showed up was enough to prove that others often wouldn't care. This method seemed successful as he had a simple existence free of drama for the time being, living a sort of peaceful interval from the real world. It was quite a paradox that he made these efforts to help himself despite his lack of concern for dying. In the simplest terms, he treated his life as a test against obstacles that came his way, and he’d like to score well. It was like a game that he would continue to play until he grew bored of it, learning about the elements and tricks of it all as he went along.

Shaking his pelt free of the water he had dabbled in, bits of fur also came from his coat. He was quite unkempt in appearance, as he’d paid no mind to grooming himself and he hadn't seen his mother in several weeks for her to try and do so. He eyed one towering rock with his green hues as rain fell from the clouds above. The sides were not the gentlest and it was partially surrounded by water, but it appealed to him. He would be further out of the way of any wanderer to these parts which could find him before he spotted them, after all it was very foggy and he might not see anyone in time to avoid them, especially Lynx. Deciding that it would be a good challenge if nothing else, he moved forward, leaping from one rocky area to another. As he got closer, his thoughts travelled to when he would return “home”. Conláed didn't feel comfortable amongst his family much, especially since Ulisse and Evalynn disappeared without warning and he’d scented a male on his mother before he’d left last season, plus changes in her body that he didn't yet understand. Not conversing much with her or the others now proved to be a downfall as he didn't know why these happenings came about, and he was not quite at ease with not knowing the reasons for them but it didn't trouble him too much because they were rogues and only pack wolves made decisions together and cared that much, so he was led to believe.

One thing had made him grow frustrated however; that the trust with his family was broken. The only wolves he even slightly trusted were his siblings and Oltulysa and even they did unexpected and strange things without notice or explanation. While being part of the discussion in a decision wasn't important to him, if he couldn't trust his family to be in his life, could he really trust anyone? He had let his frustration drive him away from them until he got to his current location within the vast unclaimed lands. When he was finished with his personal exploration he would go back for answers. He was a yearling now and didn't need his mother really so he was in no rush even though she might be worrying about him. At least he knew to keep up some kind of rapport with ones that knew things now, it would be better for him. Driving himself forward, he climbed the side of the giant rock. As he got higher he saw a sort of wide bridge that stuck out from around the side, which created an arch with an adjacent thinner and smaller tower of stone. Knowing that it would be less effort to stop to rest there instead of up on the top of the huge rock, he decided to navigate around to it. But whether it was the rain making the rock unstable or his own mistake, his footing slipped and he skidded downwards with the rocks that crumbled off into the water below. He managed to dig in his paws and regain his grip, pausing with a hint of a smile on his maw.Not today, death., the yearling thought, resuming his mission quietly. He felt far more capable now that he was surviving on his own, with his muscles developing and puppy fat gone. Reaching the stone bridge, he placed one paw forward and looked down. Stepping off into the water entered his mind as an absent idea, though he couldn't even know if the water was deep and still enough to safely do so. He was almost curious about it, if only he could test it using something suitable. He truly did think too much.

She walks. "She talks." She thinks.

Breeze had felt like she needed some adventure recently. It had been quite a boring day, with nothing interesting along the borders, and it seemed as if nobody felt like doing any training exercises. So the Delta had decided to go for a run. In fact, she wanted to see some of the lands in the neutral territories. She knew there were still places she had yet to explore, and soon she found herself in a rather eerie and fascinating place. The fae immediately became very alert, her ears perked, and her eyes scanning the misty landscape. Thankfully she blended rather well into the gloomy fog, only a bit darker in color. To others she might seem like a blurred faint shadow, moving carefully with body lowered only slightly. Everything hear was hushed by the fog, and it made the grey she-wolf smile. As odd as this damp and cold stone riddled place seemed, it actually had a mysterious sense of peace to it. Of course, the muscular female was well aware that peaceful didn't mean safe. This was clearly a dangerous place, where the fog could easily hide a hostile wolf, silence the sound of pawsteps, and conceal the uneven rock beneath her paws. She would she have to not only watch her step, but be aware of her surroundings as well. Watch your step and watch your back.

As Breeze approached the large rock formations that jutted up from the mist, she was surprised to find spot a figure hiking up the treacherous sides. It seemed a bit small, but clearly a canid. Was this a younger wolf? The climber was male, that much she could tell. Scents were masked quite a bit more here, so the Delta was unsure of where this canid came from. The female stayed a safe distance away from the foot of the incline. Sitting on the damp stone didn't seem like such a good idea, so she simply stood and watched his ascent. Shortly after his slip, Breeze dashed forward go grab one of the rocks in her jaws. This one had touched his paw. The fae quickly brought it back to the spot she had been watching from and sniffed the stone, trying to figure out who the brute was. It would make her seem odd, no doubt, but she didn't care at all. It was better to know who your company was, especially in a place like this. The last thing she needed was one of Teren's minions giving her trouble.

Much to her disappointment, however, her nose didn't find much to go on. It seemed the fog had stripped most of the scent away, leaving only a faint trace of it behind. She inhaled deeply, drawing as much information from the rock as she could. He was a male yearling, that much she could detect, and yet any scent of a pack had either been to faint to linger on the stone, and erased by the mist, or this brute wasn't from a pack at all. The fae raised her head and observed the male, who had finally reached the top. She would ask this young wolf of where he was from, but not right away. I didn't come all this way for nothing. The least I can do is try to have a decent conversation with this one...but not from where I'm at now. Breeze thought. If she raised her voice to call out to him, she might startle him and cause him to fall. She might also cause a rockfall if she shouted. The grey wolf started her climb, taking her time to check her paw holds and to make sure her weight was balanced so she wouldn't fall. A few times she did slide down the steep slop a bit, but she managed to herself from tumbling of the rock. By the time she reached the top, even her rough paw pads had a few scrapes. Breeze took a couple steps and quickly laid on the cold stone to keep her center of gravity low. She gazed around for a moment, then at the brute. The Delta laughed quietly. "This isn't much of a picturesque view, now is it? Still, it's quite a thrill to hike all this way up here."

[Sorry for the wait and the crappy quality reply. And thanks for complimenting my signature, I love your table c:]

The young brute kept his gaze on the fog far below him, quietly peering down over the edge of the stone arch as he wondered what it would be like if one were to fall through the mist and into the water. Surely to fall even into water from such a height could likely be fatal. Was this fog the same material as the clouds up in the sky? He'd wondered before how the floating white shapes must feel, as often they looked soft and fluffy yet clearly they were not an animal with fur. It was so silent here that it really allowed Conláed to explore his own mind, as there really was little else to do from high up on a rockface with nothing to see but grey clouds above and blurry fog below, nothing but monochrome figures and substances. It gave a sense of true loneliness and isolation, not that it bothered him. The Enchanted Forest in the rogue lands was also misty and mysterious yet it hadn't troubled him. Peace and quiet was useful for thinking and with how he felt over whether to stay in contact with his family or remain away on his own, sorting out his thoughts seemed the logical thing to do. He wasn't the sort to run away to avoid confronting problems, instead he'd wander off to find some space to settle and consider everything thoroughly before making a decision. With that in mind, he took a few careful steps out onto the top of the arch. It was wide enough for his body to move along without worrying too much about his balance. He stayed close enough to the rockface so that he'd be within the shadows of the main huge rock and then nobody below would spot him. He laid down, pressing his body against the cold stone so that even less of him was visible to passersby below that might happen to look up. Rain continued to lightly fall and slowly soak his matted fur as he remained motionless, ears swivelling around occasionally to keep track of any noise.

Unfortunately for him, he couldn't hear the scrabbling steps of another climbing the main cliff behind him. The wind had picked up slightly plus a few ravens had appeared and were squabbling among themselves, cawing loudly and chasing each other. He watched them in silence, being only mildly ticked off by their noisy presence which disturbed his contemplation. Conláed was a calculated fellow with a lot of self-control, he didn't lash out over something easily and giving a reaction to the birds would probably only amuse them anyway. If he was that irritated he would simply move away; he liked to have control over the outcome of something and he couldn't know for sure if barking at the birds would make them go away, plus he'd never want to bring attention to himself so removing himself from the situation was best. However he found it quite interesting to observe how the creatures interacted and mentally began to guess which bird would come out on top. Stifling a yawn, he shuffled his body to the edge of the bridge between the two towers of rock, letting his hind leg hang over it casually as he stretched out like a leopard on a tree branch. Suddenly, he heard quiet laughter and a voice. The tawny canine startled, forgetting his precarious position momentarily, and as he twisted to see who was there the rear half of his body went over the edge and he went sliding backwards. Curling his body, he kept his neck pushed out as far forward onto the ledge as possible to keep his weight on top as his forepaws tried to grip the stone and his back legs searched for some kind of hold. It felt like every muscle in his body was tensed, his eyes squinted with the effort it took to keep himself from falling, but he didn't panic although admittedly he didn't personally wish to experience how it feels to freefall through fog. Perhaps death was giving him a reminder to not get too confident about avoiding him. Now as he was teetering on the edge, he could see whom had discovered him. A dark ashy fae was crouched low to balance herself, not so dissimilar in appearance to his sister other than being less mottled with white, though that wouldn't persuade him to trust her any more than he would otherwise. He wasn't completely sure what she had said, but he had caught the gist of it. "I don't visit places for the view.", the yearling managed to rumble the words through gritted teeth. "I suppose this could be considered quite thrilling. If by that you mean the heart pumps faster." His green orbs remained on her, wary of the stranger yet deep within him he did want assistance because he knew he needed it, though he wouldn't ask. He didn't know how much longer he'd hold out especially as his sodden shaggy pelt added an extra burden, but he didn't feel fear, his mind instead appreciating having something practical to figure out: the wolf before him. It seemed like his peaceful interlude was over for now, even the ravens cackled louder than before.

She walks. "She talks." She thinks.

The brute had been lying down, his legs hanging over open air. Breeze had only a second to register that fact as the tawny colored male was startled. Within moments, his back half was dangling precariously in the void of space just beyond the rock bridge. All humor instantly vanished and was replaced by surprise as he clung to the stone. The dampness that clung to everything would surely make his grip fail and his pelt heavy. Her gaze met his green eyes for a second as his comment reached her ears. Whether or not it was an attempt at a joke she couldn't say. A strange canine he might seem, rather emotionless in fact, but she would not let him die. Quickly, she crept closer, reaching her neck as far as she could to grip his scruff and, leaning back onto her haunches, she slowly heaved backwards. The grey pelted female was uncomfortably aware that only a few paces behind her was the same deadly drop. She moved at an angle, trying to keep away from either edge as she pulled with all her might.  The moment he had sure footing, she would release him and move sideways, giving him space to recover. Her amber eyes flicked up to study him for a bit before diverting to observe the mist swirling over the stone around her. His lack of fear or panic had surprised her. In fact, it made her more curious about the stranger. Did he have no fear for death? Was he crazy? Perhaps, but maybe he was more like Fel. After awhile, the Delta fixed her amber orbs on the young wolf and dipped her head apologetically. "Sorry for startling you. I didn’t realize you had your legs hanging off the edge…are you alright?”

Interlude [Open] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Interlude [Open] Interlude [Open] Icon_minitimeJune 1st 2016, 05:09

[[I apologise the thread didn't get played out fully. This season has been crazy with everyone busy. I felt it best to end it like this so it wasn't a hanging thread and since we can't carry threads over anymore. If you want them to interact properly I'm happy to make a new thread in summer season.]]

Once he realised the fae was approaching him the uncertainty of whether she was going to help him or instead ensure his fall caused him to hold his breath, a subconscious reaction that he didn't understand at all since it didn't assist him in any way. However his anticipation was over as he felt her teeth grip his neck, and all she did was pull, not push. She was actually putting her own self at risk, as she could just as well slip over the other side if she heaved too hard and lost her grip on his scruff. Why she would endanger herself for someone she'd barely spoken to nor know if they deserved to keep their life, was not something he could comprehend doing if it were him in her place. But it turned out she was careful, and with her effort at lifting him after a few moments he gave one last heave up with his legs, finally scrabbling up to his feet with a secure footing. He wasn't easy to spook normally, but the unexpected voice from behind was enough to startle most, especially one who had little socialisation and didn't know what to expect from others. The yearling turned sideways to squat close to the stone before shaking the water from his body, glancing to the grey wolf with analysing green orbs. She was healthy and strong, a good physique for her age and size, quite different from his mother. He supposed she had more errands and hunting to do within her pack which kept her fit, and maybe they even had certain training. Whatever happened within her pack, he knew if she had been with them right now he very well might have died. It was quite a bonus to get to live out another day.

Running his tongue across his muzzle, he contemplated what to say. Some gratitude should be in order, not strictly out of politeness but because he'd have to play nice so that she would treat him well in future. He was not the best at displaying it though and the thought of it made him slightly uncomfortable. Dipping his head slightly, he averted his eyes for a moment, as if embarrassed he'd needed help. "It was one leg, but yes, I'm fine. I just didn't expect anyone else up here and being by the edge meant I had an easy escape route for a quick death if something threatening found me. I'd rather go quickly and without being mauled or strangled to death, after all." He commented, explaining why he'd been positioned there in case she thought him stupid for doing so. It was only then he realised that she might've only found him because she had spotted him or followed his trail, and so perhaps he was not in the best location. Maybe she had wanted some conversation, but he wasn't there for that. Conláed looked to her once again, making a mental note to remember her face and scent, believing she might be useful to learn from and possibly be a reliable ally in the future since her nature led her to help others, or at least him. His own family hadn't taught him much, most things he had learned on his own, but of course he knew he did not know everything and there were always new techniques, if only he could find someone a little trustworthy. Saving his life sure was a good start for him to put some faith into the fae. Thinking of how little he'd taken from his upbringing, he remembered why he was there. He had things to deliberate upon what was best for him. "I appreciate your help. You shouldn't apologise. A mistake is forgiven if you fix the consequences. Now, I should get down from here... Goodbye." He was blunt but not as cold in his tone as usual, then got up and trotted off along the bridge on his way to find a place where he would be undisturbed.
