Magnus held his position, low, hidden in the grass covered in a light dusting of snow. Though he listened for the sounds of the herd, he did not ignore his Delta. He did not speak to respond, only giving a terse nod of understanding. The topic of conversation was at an end for now, they had a hunt to do. Together the pair crept forward, analysing their prey. Magnus had to admit that in this weather the delta had the edge on him in stealth, his white coat affording him a greater camouflage than the Alpha's sable pelt. Magnus distanced himself from the other male, keeping within his line of sight but ensuring they had the room to snare the deer in their trap. If they were too close together their prey could dart off to one side and be lost early in the chase, too far apart and the two wolves would struggle to see one another's movements, losing their main method of communication. When Magnus was happy with the distance between them he darted his eyes to his companion, ensuring he was in position, and gave a sharp nod before he began the advance.

The Alpha sprang up, launching himself after the old cow. Long legs stretched out bounding forth, covering the ground swiftly. His tail held straight behind him in a banner of war. The Alpha knew he could catch this creature with ease but he wanted to see how the delta could close a hunt. He needed to know that his highest ranking member could be trusted to lead and care for his pack in the unlikely event of his absence. He needed to know Malachai could handle taking on a leadership role in certain situations. So Magnus would chase the beast but he would wait to see how the male would handle the lack of an authoritative figure, if Malachai would step up and ensure the job was done or if he would continue to wait for his Alphas command. Each response could tell him something about the male, but there was clearly one he hoped to see.
