Huffing softly, Fel stuck to the border with her nose down and mouth open, both absorbing all of the scents around her and trying to cool off. It was hot, and though she had just drunk what seemed like the equivalent of half of a river and her thirst was quenched, there was little relief from the sun. But still, borders would not check themselves. Besides, they were the pack farthest north, so their lands were cooler and more attractive to prey and predator alike this season. Her path eventually led to their northernmost territory, where her furry pelt found some relief. But even this bay seemed much less stable than before. The ice was thinner, and the water levels had risen. Grumbling, the dark fae walked carefully over to the edge, testing each step and keeping mostly on what she knew was ground, not uncertain ice.
At the edge, she tested a paw in the water after conducting a visual and sensory scan of her surroundings. There had been no wolves other than her packmates here. The water was still cold, but not cold enough to have to have to count the seconds until hypothermia would take over. With a bit of a pounce, Fel reared and then dove in. In an instant, the sweet, bone-chilling water engulfed her. It would take it a minute to truly pierce her coat and soak her thoroughly, but after that she might risk a cold due to old age and the rapid changes in temperature. So instead of enjoying the type of surroundings she was bred to withstand, Fel immediately rose from the water and pulled herself onto the shore. From there, she trotted at a nice, healthy tempo back towards the central territories of the pack. Her damp fur swished softly in time with her stride, giving her skin a refreshing (though salty) breeze. It wasn’t until she was just at the outskirts of Borealis Bay that she recognized both the scent and the sight of a packmate coming towards her in the distance over their shared gravel beach.

Death doesn’t discriminate
Between the sinners and the saints
Each night he went to sleep in his den Achak hoped that he would awaken to a wonderfully cool day with perhaps a soft breeze or a light summer rain to chase away the uncomfortable heat that plagued their lands. Alas, each morning was greeted by the sun's warmth until by midday it was much too hot to feel like doing anything. Finding no relief from the constant temperature attacks, the adolescent had decided to adventure beyond the lands that he knew to seek a territory that might be cooler. What he had found was Borealis Bay. Here it seemed like a fierce battle was waging between the cold and the heat. The sun was as bright here as ever and the land held little to no coverage to hide from the brightness. He could see what effects the summer was having here by the melting ice - was no place safe from this heatwave? However, the very ice nipped and chilled the air with a strong potency, causing his breath to slightly mist around the edges of his mouth, and underfoot Achak could feel the icey gravel biting at his pads. In front of him lay an endless ocean of dark water cool to the touch that begged him to jump in and swim, but the apprentice knew that he did not possess the strength or body physicality to even try it. If the sheer cold didn't take him then the strong ocean current would. Well, at least he had found a sort of relief so long as he could deal with the sun.
Traveling along the shoreline, Achak had trekked back to the start of the bay as the sun grew bigger in the sky. There was a certain kind of lonely beauty here as the ice seemed to stretch on forever alongside the stoney gravel, but it would be time to head home soon if he wanted to make it back and have a late lunch before dusk set in. Taking one last look around, the apprentice breathed in the chilly air and readied himself for the long trek. However, just as he was about to turn and leave the bay for good, there was a figure that appeared on the horizon that did not fit in. Curiously tilting his head and peering at the black shape that moved briskly along the beach, Achak began to see that it was another wolf that was large in size and boasted a dark pelt. Now, where had he seen such a character like that before? From a distance he wasn't quite sure, but the curiosity at who else would be in this desolate ice land claimed him and the young wolf soon was approaching the larger one.
By the smell it was an Agavos member just as he, and the closer they got to one another Achak began to place who the she-wolf was. She had introduced herself as Fel, the beta, at the meeting. His head lifted up to gaze at the large female and her piercing blue eyes and he stopped a little ways from her noticing her soaking wet pelt. "Good afternoon, Beta Fel." Achak dipped his head respectively to the superior. "It is a pleasure to meet you face-to-face." Providing a pleasant smile, the young one waited to allow her time to respond if she wasn't in too much of a hurry.

As the figure moved closer, Fel picked up characteristics that led to the realization of who it was. Tall but not full-grown, and rather lanky - a yearling, and therefore not one of the new pups. Tawny hide - not Striker. Achak? The face was Achak’s: a wolf she knew of without knowing him directly. Fel did not particularly care about the life and personalities of the youth, and so she invested her time in more prosperous fields. Initially, the fae was just going to continue on with a passing word of warning about hypothermia and why it was important not to soak one’s pelt. It was important to note, at this time, that her fur was not soaked all the way through to her skin. If it were so, she would be both hypocritical and posing a risk to her own health. Most of the moisture was on the longer, guard hairs that were now splayed shaggily along her body in every which way. She decided to shake her pelt off a bit for good measure once the young one stopped to talk before replying, “Afternoon, Achak.” Only now did she allow her attention to rest upon his figure with full attention, minus that one flickering ear that was always on guard for other presences. Fel’s icy eyes locked onto the other, livelier pair in the manner that her dominant position allowed, though she overlooked many other formalities of her rank. She could always exhibit such behaviour later, if need be.
“The pleasure is all mine,” she rumbled out in that voice that was both as rough as the gravel below their paws and as devoid of emotion (and any visible interest) as her eyes. “What brings an apprentice to a place as far and dangerous as this? Mere curiosity? An escape from the heat?” Her gaze swept over him with an analytical glare, curious to see how his growth was coming along, before returning to that direct eye-contact. He wasn’t awe-inspiring but also not quite unimpressive. There could be some use out of the apprentices yet. For him, it would depend upon his intellect. For her own apprentices, it was their self-control and dedication, as well as natural wit. For the spawn of Teren, it rested upon their degree of either open-minded nature or sheer stupidity. Either would do, really.
